Covering a useful range of focal lengths, the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S Lens for Mirrorless Camerasis a versatile zoom, spanning wide-angle to portrait-length perspectives. Its constant f/4 maximum aperture maintains a consistent exposure throughout the zoom range and also helps to realize a more compact and lightweight alternative to an f/2.8 zoom. In regard to the optical design, a unique aspherical extra-low dispersion element, in addition to three aspherical elements, is used to help reduce chromatic aberrations and distortions throughout the zoom range in order to achieve high image sharpness and clarity. Both Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings have also been applied to control flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color rendering in bright and backlit conditions.

Complementing the optics, a stepping motor provides quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override to suit both stills and video applications. A programmable control ring can be set for intuitive adjustment over a variety of camera and exposure settings. Additionally, the lens has a button-less retractable barrel to realize a more compact form factor when not in use.

Standard zoom covers a wide-angle to portrait-length range and is designed for FX-format Z-mount mirrorless cameras.

Constant f/4 maximum aperture affords consistent performance throughout the zoom range and also contributes to the relatively lightweight design and compact form factor.

A unique aspherical extra-low dispersion element is incorporated into the optical design, along with three additional aspherical elements, to greatly reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations, distortion, coma (comatic aberration), and flare for consistent edge-to-edge sharpness and illumination.

A Nano Crystal Coat, along with a Super Integrated Coating, has been applied to lens elements to minimize surface and internal reflections for a marked reduction in lens flare and ghosting.

Stepping motor delivers impressively smooth, quiet, and fast autofocus performance that is well-suited to both stills and video applications. Full-time manual focus override is also possible and an internal focusing design is used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.

Programmable Control Ring is, by default, set to adjust manual focus, but can also be used to control aperture or exposure compensation.

Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.

Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Exposed elements feature a fluorine coating that affords protection to the optical system against dust, grease, and water droplets.

Dust- and moisture-resistant lens barrel benefits the lens' use in inclement conditions.

Button-less retractable design maintains a compact form factor when the lens is not in use.

[Nikon Z] This lens has been with me for about 2 weeks. It is light, easy to use, sharp as can be sharp, and just fantastic on my Z9. I'v used the older Nikon 24-70 for years, and will keep it as a back up because it has given me so many great pics. Just a continued investment in my photo life, and a great one!

[f/4] Using the Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S lens on the Nikon Z8. Superior quality build and sharp across the field of view at all focal lengths make this Z lens good for landscape work to portraits. Just love this lens! B&H continues to be my go to source of great products and support in all things photographic.

[f/22] I usually don't use any kind of additional filters, but I do expect to use the kit for quick maintenance on my camera/lens while out shooting, or getting ready to go out for the day. Thanks to BH for the value add to my Z 24-70mm f/2.8 purchase!

[Full-Frame] Sharp, and light as far as 24-70 2.8 is concerned. I am not sure why people complain about the weight. It is lighter then the 24-70 2.8 F mount lens adapted with FTZ.
So far great purchase!

[24 to 70mm] The Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S is one heck of an optic! This lens is bright and super-sharp even when wide-opened. My only complaint is that at 24mm setting, you cannot stack two screw-mount filters without getting a little vignette. I have B+W UV and Heliopan CPL on this lens. They are both slim line and the vignette is still presence. This is just a minor inconvenience because it can be easily fix in post. I do notice that the vignette disappears at 27mm when both the UV and CPL are attached.

Attached, are some sample images made using the Z9 with Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S mounted. These images were taken down and dirty for a quick test using natural light. No strobe. No reflectors. No light modifier. All were shot wide opened at f/2.8 on manual mode. I haven't tried stopping down the lens yet. I am sure it will be even sharper.

[Full-Frame] Purchased this lens for my Nikon Z7ii. It's perfect for my studio sessions and all of my weddings. When you are in a small area, this is my go to lens! Great quality too! It gets heavy after a while, but overall it's awesome.

[72 mm (Front)] I have recently purchased a Z9 from B&H. I love NIKON in that the old lenses fit the newer products...usually with an adaptor.. So having purchased the FTX II converter ring, I shot several hundred pictures using various lenses that I have had for years and used with my D850, D500 and D7101.

First, let me say that the pictures were fantastic even with the non-mirrorless lenses, (a tribute to the Z9 in large part I'm sure) ...However, after renting a mirrorless lens...I knew that I needed to add the Z 24-70 f/2.8 S to my camera bag.

Secondly, I have not disappointed in any way. Crystal clear, versatile and lighter than I expected, I can see why mirrorless equipment has caught on in such a big way. I wish I could go completely mirrorless, but there is no way I could afford such a move at this time....but if I could I would!

Finally, the fact that NIKON/B&H had this lens on sale for $300.00 off, made this purchase one of the best values for a lens of this quality, I have ever made.

The Z 24-70 and B&H receive my highest recommendation
