Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Volume ntrol? Seems there is no knob on speaker..... how can you control volume? If I need external control, who makes the best?

A: There is not a volume control. although there is an input sensitivity control. The best way to control volume is by using a Mackie Big Knob: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1313074-REG/mackie_big_knob_passive_studio.html

Q: 2. Will these stands work for the larger size Genelec 8050A models?

A: Yes, the K&M Design 26785 Monitor Stand is compatible for use with the Genelec 8050A Studio Monitor. As an option to consider for another compatible stand for the 8050A that is available in stock (the 26785 is a special order item), you may like the Genelec 8000-409B - Floor Speaker Stand for 8000 Series Nearfield Monitors (B&H # GE8000409B) or K&M 26740 37-56" Steel Monitor Stand (B&H # KM26740).

Q: 3. Can I connect two of these speakers to a Scarlett Solo Preamp?

A: Yes, a pair of Genelec 8020D Studio Monitors can be used alongside and receive signal from a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2x2 USB Audio Interface with the proper cabling. The Hosa Technology Balanced 1/4" TRS Male to 3-Pin XLR Male Audio Cable (BH #HOHSX005) is an example of the type of cable required to feed each speaker: https://bhpho.to/3R26bkP

Q: 4. Which Genelec model is suitable for studios of size 50X23X13(Ft)?

A: That would really depend on your listening area. 8030's with a sub work work for one to two people in the listening area. 8050's would offer an 8'' woofer with better separation in the sonic field B&H # GE8050BPM. 1032c's would be great as well with a 10'' woofer and offer SAM technology BH #GE1032CPM.

Q: 5. Can the monitors be fastened to the stands? If so, what is the fastening method, and is everything necessary included with the entire package?

A: You'll need the 8020-408 Stand plates to fasten the 8020s to stands. The stand plates must be attached to a stand with 3/8" threading. The stands in this bundle do not have male 3/8" threading when the mounting plate is removed, and would be unable to have the stand plate attach. I've included a link to the stand plate for you. https://www.genelec.com/accessories/8020-408-stand-plate

Q: 6. Is this a good monitor for everyday use on a computer with built-in sound card and 1/8" to dual XLR splitter cable?

A: The Genelec 8020D Studio Monitor (Producer Finish) is an excellent choice for everyday monitoring, and it can be used with your computer's built-in sound card if an audio interface or monitor controller is not an option.

Q: 7. Current model on Genelec site is 8010A - what is the difference between this 8010 and 8010A?

A: The A in an 8010 model means Active since it has a built in power amp. It seems 8010 and 8010A are used interchangeably online when referring to the active speaker.

Q: 8. Is the width of this adjustable? It looks like it is not; that it's just one long steel bar.

A: The width on this table-style keyboard stand is not adjustable, but the height is. The QuikLok M-61 1-Tier Adjustable Keyboard Stand (Black), BH #QUM61 has width and height adjustments.

Q: 9. Is it compatible with Genelec 8010A?

A: To the best of my knowledge it will not as the 8010a does not sport the threaded hole at the bottom.

Q: 10. Is this for one or two?

A: This listing is for a single Genelec L-Shape Table Stand for 8X4X and 8X5X Studio Monitor.

[15.62 lb] I bought the 8010's to have some portability when traveling and producing electronic music. They have a roll off at 65 HZ, just where bass gets beefy. Considering the size of the 8010's they do an excellent job in the mid and high frequency range...but they seriously lack in the deep end. I have since supplemented them by adding the 7040A and the difference is astounding. Yes, this sub has weight to it, isn't exactly small and the idea of portability is somewhat limited now but I'd do what is necessary to bring this baby along for the ride. I'm talking fullness across the board when combined with the 8010's that could well stand up to my home studio near fields.

[15.62 lb] For being a small enough to seemingly hide under a desk, the whole room can accurately hear, and feel, lows in the studio sound system.

[15.62 lb] Purchased a pair of 8020D to sit atop my digital piano / keyboard for practice with virtual piano from the computer. The design, shape and integrated stand give it a smaller feel than its actual size. I wanted something that didn't look large, imposing, or boxy. At first I tried the smaller 8010s, but they are so diminutive that it felt a bit wrong having such small monitors. Also for playing loud the 8010s are at the top of their ability. These 8020D are a bit larger than the 8010 but still small enough for my needs. The 3inch driver is twice the size (area) of the 8010, its twice as powerful, and the bass response is significantly better. Fantastic sound.

Connected to my audio interface by balanced XLR. 8020D manual explicitly states you can connect to unbalanced line out by using the appropriate cable, and there is an input gain adjustment to accommodate different line levels. Dip switches allow tuning base to work with the room and desktop acoustics, and both are useful in my application. I apply a little eq in my DAW to flatten out for room resonance (which is easy to tune by ear as you play up and down the piano). There are other speakers that have their own digital processing to tune themselves to your room acoustics. But for playing piano live I didn't want that feature, because it adds more latency.

Good solo piano sound is hard because lumps in the frequency response make certain notes stand out and distract, there aren't other instruments in the mix to hide flaws, and poor sound can put one off playing. Headphones are great for practice too, but the experience of playing out loud is different. Its worth spending on the monitors. These are great.

[15.62 lb] I am about 8 months in with a pair of 8020D and I know I can rely on the quality and hopefully durability will be great as well.

[15.62 lb] Just marvelous! Crystal clear. Loud enough to blow the house down. Too bad they’re unaffordable for most of the musicians I know…!

[Desktop Stand] I have three different Genelec monitors (8010, 8020 and 8030). The 8020s are really the sweet spot with a super clean sound and more bass vs the 8010s. The 8030s are also amazing, but a bigger investment.

[Desktop Stand] The producer grey aluminum Genelecs are gorgeous. It almost seems designed to go with my space grey MacBook Pro and Universal Audio X8p audio interface for Logic/Luna. The compact form factor still sounds as good as it looks and has a big sound for my small bedroom home studio. I also have the tiny 8010s for remote recording projects and playing back from a Roland RD88 keyboard
