On the front of the unit, you'll notice a section for Sports Pods, complete with level pots and mute switches. These controls allow the mixer to balance the voices of up to three on-air announcers or mute them, if they should go off on a dangerous tangent. The announcers route their Sports Pods (available separately) into this section so that the mixer can balance their signals.

The SportsCaster provides control sections for the field reporter and two auxiliary channels; the aux channels can be used for crowd-noise, PA system announcers, and other applicable audio sources. These can be switched between the full "program" mix (what everyone will hear on air) and a cue mix, for behind-the-scenes directives, if need be.

In the Talkback section, you'll notice three different switches: Pods, Field, and Cam. Pressing one of these buttons will route talkback audio to the announcers, field reporter, or camera operators respectively, effectively allowing the producer to address anyone individually with the push of a finger.

For the camera operators and field reporter, a three-knob mixing section is provided. This lets the producer control the level of the communications, program, and cue mixes fed to the headphones of those in the field.

The Producer gets another headphone-mixing section, with three level controls for the intercom, cue mix, and overall program. Below these knobs are three L-C-R pan switches, which let the producer pan different people to different parts of the audio spectrum. Thus, the producer can choose to put the overall program mix in the center, while the intercom only comes through the left headphone. To the right of this section are connections for the producer's headphones and talkback microphone. A talkback level knob rounds out the front-panel controls.

The SportsCaster offers a two-way intercom between the producer and announcers, and between the producer and the field reporter. A Cross-Comm feature allows three-way intercom between all three when it's necessary for the announcers to coordinate directly with the field reporter.

The rear of the unit offers eight XLR inputs and three XLR outputs, all of which correspond to the various players involved (announcer, field reporter, overall program, etc). Controls for mic and line-level are on hand, as are three 3.5mm Mic Remote inputs for the Sports Pod. Using a standard Cat 5 cable, you can also route audio from a Sports Pod directly into the SportsCaster, daisy-chaining the other two Sports Pods into the first one.

[5.0 lb / 2.3 kg] I don't know how many matchboxes we have, but it's close to 50. Some old style, many the new rack mount kind. Weve used them since 1990 or so, and they sound waay better than the cheapie immitators! A cool product for sure!

[6.115 lb] I bought this output multiplier to expand the 3/4 output on my Universal Audio Apollo. The Apollo has an adat in for additional inputs, but not adat out. This allow me to run the 3/4 output to multiple devices for processing. The sound is transparent and the output multiplier works great!

[5.0 lb / 2.3 kg] For anyone who is unfamiliar, Henry Engineering has been around since the 80s making little problem solvers like this one, mostly for broadcasters. Their quality has always been top notch in every product I've bought from them, and this is no exception.

The case isn't the most beautiful thing in the world, but it is fairly thick steel with a good deal of heft - solid. (I think Henry makes their products this way to keep RF out at transmitter sites.)

There's a rackmount kit available as well.

[1 RU] You need this to match your aux/sidecar USB audio source to professional +4 dBU studio inputs. All the other pretty commonly available USB I/Os output no more than +12 dBU.

[1 RU] Needed something to connect consumer equipment to professional equipment with balanced inputs, this raises the levels and takes care of impedance matching. Very transparent, I don't hear any added noise or distortion. Although there are workarounds for connecting unbalanced to balanced, it is best to use something that matches levels and impedance to maintain system integrity and sound quality. There are less expensive devices with the same functionality but based on the superior specs tried this one and am very pleased with it.

[6.115 lb] I have now purchased eight of these over the past 18 months. It is reliable, works exactly as described and solves the problem that three other components put together could not. You will not regret this purchase for your broadcast.

[5.0 lb / 2.3 kg] I use a Neumann TLM-103 directly into a Mackie 1402 VLZ Pro, then to the Matchbox II to my Fujitsu solid state hard drive computer...and the Matchbox II perfectly translates the large dynamic range of the Neumann. I use NO voice processor because I want to deliver a pure audio waveform to my clients (Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard and others...) If the Matchbox II was a woman, I'd date it.
