[0.385 lb] Went to NAB to compare mics, specifically. Listened to Sennheiser, Sanken, Shure and this was my favorite. Had for over a year, still love it.

[Faux Fur] This thing is so cute, and incredibly useful. I bought it as an on-camera mic for the Canon R5C, running into the Tascam CA-XLR2d preamp. It works great for that, on camera.

But recently, I’ve been taking it off the camera, with a longer XLR, and using it as a narration mic for recording myself in various locations around the studio for YouTube videos. It’s on a tiny little tripod, and the whole thing is so small and lightweight you can stick it anywhere without hassle.

It sounds “present” and “live” without any low-end mud whatsoever, and really comes alive when you get the room placement right. Especially be sure to take off that included foam windscreen when in a controlled studio environment for much more detailed top end.

[0.385 lb] I researched for weeks looking for a small diaphragm condenser that would work well indoors as well as outdoors. Our primary use is for indoor dialogue (interviews, etc.). Wound up renting this Sanken mic for a day to test it out and immediately loved it. Bought it that day. The room we do most of our recordings in has some sound treatment and is fairly dead acoustically. The CS-M1 has a beautiful off-axis roll-off and tone and sounds very natural. Very little EQ needs to be done for our purposes. Has a little more top-end presence and no heavy bottom end. Great RF rejection and reportedly works well in high humidity settings. Super small and light. Very little handling noise. I love the supercardioid pattern which is perfect for our needs. Super quiet mic. Sounds beautiful. I will definitely be buying a second one when I get the $. No regrets.

[Faux Fur] Got this mic to have it on camera from a recommendation of a professional sound recordist (he uses it as his main shotgun mic indoors). The sound comes out of it is beautiful. Also it's so tiny and take very little space on the camera rig.


It's directional enough to capture sound of what only happens in the frame, but not too crazy where you get off axis sound of people on sides of the frame. Also off-axis sound and noise is very pleasant and doesn't have this tubing or echo effect as some long shotguns have.


The . windshield foam that comes with mic is useless, doesn't protect even from small winds, maybe could be used as a pop-filter. The Softie windshield is great, the only downside it's a bit big for my taste, but does the job well.

[0.385 lb] Sounds better than my Rode or Sennheisser boom mikes. I prefer this dynamic range and low noise by a mile.

[0.385 lb] Thing is ridiculous. Used it for a narrative shoot next to the Great Falls in Paterson and I was extremely impressed by its rejection and reach. I've also used it for indoor dialogue. Performed flawlessly in both situations. Much better than a 416, yet cheaper than a CMIT-5 with similar performance (though it lacks that sparkle that the Schoeps has.)

[Faux Fur] I feel stupid for not having this mic much sooner. It sounds fantastic. Really full, clear and balanced. The overall rejection is amazing, you can shoot in a room with a busy street outside or construction and not hear it at all. Extremely happy and impressed.

I initially bought it because I want a shorter mic for my on camera shotgun; but now using this as our main microphone period.

[0.385 lb] Works great on shotguns like the Sanken CS-3. Easy to mount the microphone, sturdy, nice and light. Much better than the Pearstone mount IMO.
