[0.25 lb] Great sound and functionality. This is one of the oldest models so it doesn't get a lot of love but it can do a lot more than you think if you take the time to learn it. All the volcas jam well together and I definitely recommend this, but get the FM first if you have a tight budget.

[Zipper] This is really a superb analog synth! Three oscillators and a killer filter, you won't be sorry if you buy this. In truth, this is so much more than a bass machine. It is a synth in a small package. I think sometimes it gets confused with being a 303 clone, but it most certainly is not. The price is unbelievable and you can't make a bad decision in choosing this unit. Fun for days! If anything, it is under-priced for what it is. Don't think twice.

[Zipper] I've been using the Volca Sample and it's great... but sometimes you JUST want to play with a siloed drum machine. There are SO many settings/parameters to control/change each instrument. Loving this so far and can't wait to make some solid EBM music with it.

[Handheld Only] The Korg Volca Keys is a fantastic sounding analog poly synth even if it were more expensive. This can really get pretty fat too. I love the Volca Keys so much that I made a sample library with it using motion recording and doing two passes of each sound to give me stereo imagining of the LFO phase. If there's one thing that's greatest about it, it's the filter. Korg filters are the best and this filter, based on the miniKORG 700S, is no exception. The different oscillator modes give it a wide range of sounds and one of my favorite features of this is the pitch envelope. The pitch envelope just really sets it apart from synths lacking such control. I've used this with its sequencer and that's totally fun for DAWless jams. I'm now also enjoying using it in sampled form. Every parameter is motion recordable except oscillator mode & resonance and you can motion record all other parameters without limit. I hope to always have a Volca Keys and I just know I'll only ever get rid of it if Korg comes out with a Volca Keys 2.

[0.25 lb] LOVE MY VOLCAS! GREAT PRICE, EASY TO USE! I started with the KORG Volca Beats, and quickly added the Volca Keys, then the Volca Bass. I love the way they sync. I also like using knobs and manual/mechanical manipulation, which is part of the fun of the Volca series: twirling oscillators and noise filters in real time. Build quality is decent (particularly for the money), and these devices are super-easy to use. The analog tones are versatile: fat, warm and spooky/spacey as you'd want them to be. Watch the YouTube tutorials for some great demonstrations of the capabilities of these units- Hearing is believing!

[Olive Green] The Korg Volca Drum is a super fun & creative percussion synthesizer. This Volca definitely is unique. It offers six parts each with layers of two individual sounds per part that can be edited separately or together. Programming is very immediate and the controls invite tweaking without having read the manual. However there are a few settings that aren't immediately intuitive which are accessed with the edit/step button and then scrolled through by the select/parameter knob. These potentially overlooked settings really do add to the sound giving bit reduction, wave folding, overdrive, panning, and gain adjustment. The three distortions here add a bit of grit to the sound and in my experience don't degrade the sound too much either, being mostly consistently useable at maximum settings. The motion record opens up the sound design potential quite a bit even if it is a shame that motion recording isn't available for the resonator parameters. I especially enjoy motion recording the rate of the LFO modifier. So many types of synthetic percussion can be made with this synth and, with choke groups, you can treat multiple sounds as a single instrument set. Programming on the Volca Drum is a joy. I plan on holding onto mine probably forever.

[Zipper] You basically get a three voice analog synth with easily accessible modulation features that syncs with the other Volcas and runs on batteries.

It does tend to tear through batteries in my experience but that goes for all the Volcas and you can always plug it in.

[Handheld Only] Wow! I’ve had this drum machine for just a few hours and already I can tell I’ve barely scratched the surface of what this machine is capable of. There is so much this machine can do, it’s a shame to call it just a drum machine. It’s really a drum machine and a synthesizer. The synth engine is really, really incredible with multiple areas of sound manipulation. The step sequencer is intuitive and responsive. There’s not one thing I can say that’s negative about this synth! It’s perfect.
