The BOSS VE-500 Vocal Performer Pedal | Vocal Effects Processoris a vocal-effects engine in a stompbox form factor. It's suitable for guitar players looking to affect their vocals in a variety of ways. For instance, the pedal combines intelligent compression, EQ, and de-essing into an Enhance Section; this allows your voice to shine the best it can. Further atmospheric effects including reverb, delay, modulation, and more are at your disposal, as are trashy distortions and other ear-catching sounds.

By means of a guitar input and thru-put, you can create harmonies that follow the chordal structure of your playing, filling out the arrangement if you're the sole singer in a band. This input can also be used to elicit classic vocoder and talkbox effects; thus, you can get that classic Peter Frampton sound without having to introduce a frequently-unsanitary tube into your mouth.

Have a favorite sound? Have several favorite sounds? You can store them in one of 99 presets, or utilize the 50 preset-patches already onboard. Controls are available via three assignable footswitches, three assignable knobs, intuitive buttons for the menu screen, and external footswitch options: Loop a TRS expression pedal into the external footswitch for continuous effects, or hook two control pedals into the VE-500 via a TRS-to-1/4" Y cable, securing two additional footswitches in the process.

Turn your attention to the rear of VE-500 and you'll note 1/4" instrument jacks for your guitar's input and thru-put. If you're a MIDI-based musician, use the 5-pin DIN input to get info from your DAW, synth, or apposite harmony generator. You can also use the micro-USB type-B input for this purpose, or to use the Editor/Librarian software, which facilitates patch management and sound editing on your computer. An XLR input is on hand for your mic, and you can route mono or stereo sound to the house by means of the two XLR output jacks. An AC adapter is included.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How much does it weigh?

A: The Shure SM7B weighs 1.69 lbs.

Q: 2. can I run the ta-1vp vocal processor in conjunction with my live 3 vocal processor. I don't want to lost the harmony capabilities. is your unit at 218.00 used, everyone else is at 399.00?thank you, Greg

A: The Tascam TA-1VP is a new factory sealed unit. Used items are only available from our Used Department, and will be clearly labeled as such. This unit can be used in conjunction with another vocal processor, but might be best inserted into the chain before any harmony processor as best results are achieved on a single voice and not on polyphonic sources.

Q: 3. If I use this mic with the mackie 1202vlz4 audio mixer, do I still need a pre-amp compressor?

A: That mixer has a mic preamp already so the SM7B will work fine with it.

Q: 4. Need a recommendation for a voice mic to use with an M BOX Mini currently using a SHURE PE 515, I also have a SHURE 545L which I have not tried. Or, if I get a Shure SM7B will I be able to use my Passport 150 Pro as a pre-amp for the M BOX Mini?

A: The Shure SM7B is very low in natural since its a dynamic mic it needs alot of gain from your M BOX asnd doing so will introduce hiss from the M BOX bringing noise level up. The best we can advice is to get a cloud lifter and this will eliminate and hiss giving you a 25db of a boost.

Q: 5. Where is it made?

A: The Shure SM7B Vocal Microphone is made in Mexico.

Q: 6. If using this unit in a live setting, can I just use the chromatic scale on a single vocal and play songs in different keys?

A: Yes, the TASCAM TA-1VP can be used to tune a vocal to the chromatic scale, which would allow flexible pitch correction within western musical styles.

Q: 7. I have a Mix Pre3 preamp; will I need a Cloudlifter to increase gain (to avoid buzz), or will the Mix Pre3 be fine on its own with the SM7B?

A: The Sound Devices MixPre-3 II Audio Recorder pairs quiet Kashmir preamps with 70dB of gain range, making it one of the few devices that can be used with the Shure SM7B Vocal Microphone without the need for a Cloudlifter.

Q: 8. what are the dimensions? I want to get a pelican case for it and get as small of one as possible.

A: The dimensions of the Shure SV100-W are 3.5 x 4.5 x 10.8 inches. And it weighs in at 8.6 ounces.

Q: 9. What is a CloudLifter?

A: Reggie, a CL-1 Cloudlifter is a mic activator that lets you get the best possible audio. It partners with your preamp in amplifying your mics' signal for clean, transparent recordings. If you have a Shure SM-7B mic, you most likely will need it because this type of mic does not have a strong sound level.

Q: 10. Does this mic require phantom power?

A: This is a dynamic microphone, so no power is required. The SM7B is known to have a low gain output, so often a gain booster is used with the mic to give you more headroom and to avoid any noise in the signal. When using a gain booster, such as the Coudlifter, phantom power is required to power that unit.

[32-bits] After working my way through various competing processors (including other Boss and Roland products) that offered similar capabilities I had pretty much given up on finding one that suited my needs. The GT-1's combination of preset factory sounds, their ease of tweakability, variety of effects and ease of their tweakability offers a player a massive selection of tools to work with. Controls are easy to use and logical in how they are set up. Couldn't be more pleased.

[32-bits] I was skeptical but this thing is very easy to use and sounds great. You can adjust the harmony level so it adds just enough without sounding hokey. Getting used to engaging it at the right times during the song -- but the large stomp button helps a ton. Also, the enhance feature in this pedal is phenomenal for any vocalist.

[48 kHz] this is awsome

[48 kHz] I play tenor sax and wished I saw a review like this. The harmony portion is based on singer and key of c instruments. Just add two flats to music for Bb instruments in my case and diel in new key for all harmony presets including harmony pedal and it will be spot on. People love the effects it produces. I still have to do my part.

[3.3 lb] I bought the ve-20 based on the demo I saw on line using the theremin with the pitch correct .this was an alternative to using guitar peddles witch are not ideal and do not work very well with the theremin. this will enhance the sound of your theremin or theremini and has a loop station to boot. all for a very reasonable price.it compleats my set up.

[3.3 lb] Quick setup, easy to use. Still experimenting with it. Pedals make for ease of switching from straight vocals to harmony. I recommend this highly for serious singers.
