The gray Lowepro Whistler Backpack 350 AW II Grayfrom Lowepro Whistler Backpack 350 AW II Grayis a heavy-duty bag designed to comfortably and securely carry your mobile photo studio. The spacious main compartment features an adjustable partition system that can hold a large DSLR with an attached 70-200mm lens, six additional lenses, and a shoe mount flash or additional lens. Users of mirrorless camera systems can fit up to eight lenses along with a camera, a flash or additional lens, as well as a backup camera, and for protection of foldable drones and their flight controllers, two padded inserts feature enhanced cushioning.

Access to the main compartment is provided by a rear-facing zippered panel with a 180° downward opening. Along the inside of that zippered panel is a memory card pocket and two zippered organizer pockets for hard drives, portable batteries, camera filters, or small electronics. Separated from the main compartment by a waterproof barrier, an expandable front pocket with a bottom drain hole allows wet outdoors equipment such as a climbing helmet, shovel, or ice pick to dry even when carried inside the Whistler Backpack 350 AW II. Integrated between the main compartment and the waterproof front pocket is a dedicated sleeve that can accommodate a 13" laptop. The laptop sleeve can be reached through a zippered top opening with capacity for books, notepads, snow goggles, or packable clothing. Along the inside the top opening is an accessory pocket for items that need to be secured, yet accessed quickly and conveniently, such as a pair of sunglasses, snacks, or headphones.

The Whistler Backpack 350 AW II can be carried via the built-in top handle, or by the adjustable, padded shoulder straps. For heavy loads, this backpack's waist belt transfers weight to the hips for additional comfort, while the sternum strap further limits unintentional shifting around the wearer. Along each side and on the front are two side-compression straps that can each hold and secure a tripod, monopod, or trekking pole. Connected to the surface of the bag with hooks that support up to 220 lb, the compression straps are suitable for skis, a snowboard, or other outdoor mountain equipment which can be harnessed and carried.

Featuring durable nylon construction, the Whistler Backpack 350 AW II is built to be weather resistant, and includes a seam-sealed cover for use under heavy rain.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the pocket on the outer side (not the main compartment) have interior pockets?

A: The front pocket on the Lowepro Whistler Backpack 350 AW II (Gray) has a small mesh pocket. The rest of the compartment is design to hold outdoor sports gears and sharp objects. If you need additional space for small personal items you can use the top pocket.

Q: 2. There is a zipper on the backside of the top compartment. There is no zipper pull and the pull side is inside out. What does it do?

A: The zipper pulls and or the pull side should be on the outside, it sounds like the bag is defective. That reveals a top compartment that opens as shown in the photos on our website.

Q: 3. Can this bag be configured to hold a gripped XT3 with Fuji 150-600mm attached? With room for more lenses?

A: Yes, the Lowepro Whistler Backpack 350 AW II can hold the FUJIFILM X-T3 Mirrorless Camera with the FUJIFILM XF 150-600mm f/5.6-8 R LM OIS WR Lens attached with room for a couple of small - medium lenses.

Q: 4. What are the differences between the mark ii and the mark i versions of this backpack?

A: Hi Jackson - If you watch the video for this backpack (look at the gallery of images above), it goes over all of this for you. Version II is approx 15% lighter, improved buckle placement, Nylon 66 material on the front, expansion zipper around the base, more aggressive harness shape (for active users), tighter waist belt, simplified the front, etc..

Q: 5. Does it have side pockets for a water bottle?

A: The side of the Lowepro Whistler 450 BP AW II (Gray) has straps to hold large items like skis. Unfortunately, it does not have a pocket for a water bottle on the side.

Q: 6. Will this meet TSA size restrictions for carry-on?

A: The exterior dimensions of the Lowepro Whistler 450 BP AW II are 23.6 x 13 x 10 inches. That adds up to 46.6 linear inches and thus exceeds the 45 linear inch limitations for most airlines.

Q: 7. Can you take out the entire camera insert?

A: There is no "entire camera insert" per se, but rather the inner bag is lined with touch-fastener material that the multiple padded inserts fasten to. You can remove all these pads from the bag, but you do not get fully-separated insert to use with other bags, if that was your intention.

Q: 8. The negative review comments on strap comfort - anyone else find this an issue? Many thanks

A: Most customers find the straps on the Lowepro Whistler Backpack 350 AW II (Gray) to be comfortable.

Q: 9. What length avalanche poles will fit in this backpack. IS there room for an avalanche shovel?

A: There is no limit to the length of a pole other than what you are comfortable with carrying. A pole or tripod would be external to the backpack as shown in this photo: https://bit.ly/2X70YlM However using an extremely long pole could interfere with your ability to walk but a taller person would be able to handle a longer pole than a shorter person. It would be more comfortable using a pole, tripod or shovel that is not much longer than 21 inches,

Q: 10. Can you access the camera gear compartment without removin the pack by rotating it to the front on the waist belt like flipside?

A: The Lowepro Whistler 450 BP AW II (Gray) camera gear compartment cannot be accessed without removing the backpack.

[5.7 lb] This is the most comfortable backpack I ever seen. It has a well thought storage system (removable and customisable). Also, it is lightweight and very practical. I have been carrying this backpack with all my gear and I think I finally found the perfect one!

[Gray] I have been carrying this bag with all my gear, 2 bodies, 2 lenses around nyc for days. Extremely satisfied. This is the most comfortable and well thought out ergonomically perfect bag I have owned since my first bag in 1990s and approximately two dozen after that.

[Gray] A little too small for 2 DSLR bodies with prime lenses + filters, batteries, blowers, timers and the like, that is what the 450 AW II is for, but... I did buy it for when I go mirrorless, and carry a more simplified kit.
For now, one Nikon D810 body, 2 x lenses, 100 x 100 filter gear etc, it is great to work out of, providing you give some thought to partitioning. The ability for the bag to stand upright is a plus, as is the useful top entry opening.
I find the camera weight does not drag down on the dividers if configured with camera at base, but does require a full unzip to retrieve or return it. Small price to pay for gear that remains in place while hiking.

[Zipper] Excellent bag made of high quality materials. Perfect size for my Canon SL2 with 55-250. Nice padding inside, easy to move the panels around to suit my needs. It seems to be waterproof even without the rain cover.

[Zipper] I like the backpack, if you have seen the peak design everyday backpack this one is almost the same in function but I prefer this exterior design because of finish and more muted look. On the interior I prefer this divider types. Also it comes with a little organizer that is great for my laptop charger and mouse

[Yes] So, we all know where this bag got it’s inspiration. This bag fixes a couple of issues I have with the PD backpack.
-It’s side panels are better padded, and open away from your body; making things easier to get to, and shielding view of what’s in your bag.
-It always stands up.
-the top opening is zippered and not that flawed hook/mouth that possibly allows water in.

It’s a well made bag, that has a genuinely new storage system that is removable and customizable.

Nice job, Lowepro!

[Zipper] I have had a few different camera bags, but this one is the best by far. The dual side openings are very convenient, and there are more than enough pockets to hold my sd cards, filters, etc. The accessory bag is a nice addition, and the velcro divider system offers the versatility I need for carrying lenses and personal items. Definitely recommend this bag!

[Universal] I originally bought the whistler 350 (version1) which I really liked a lot. Then I read the design specs of version 2 and knew I needed to get it. I was carrying two backpacks for all my camera and laptop gear. I realized version two made it a lot simpler for me to also carry my laptop with its own designated spot. The other features that really stood out to me is the front zipper expands at the bottom half (ver2) instead of the top half (ver1). Seems better to have the expansion at the bottom half to stuff things “down”. Also I can adjust the padding inside to allow me to grab my camera out the top zipper, super enhancement. Although I really like the removable icu box of ver1, I felt it was better/ leaner without carrying that additional payload. It’s such a nice looking bag and doesn’t immediately appear durable, but it is a fantastically durable and high quality. I feel very confidant that this bag with keep my camera gear exceptionally safe when I put it into a challenging situation and weather.

[Zipper] I have been using the same old pack for many years (a Lowepro 1981), and am amazed by how far design has progressed. This one fits into the overhead storage compartment of a very tiny plane, and the top pocket is roomy enough to hold things needed on a long flight while the rest of the thing protects all my fragile gear. On site the side openings make it very easy to get at equipment, and small pouches keep memory cards, filters, etc. accessible. The one problem I have encountered is the length of the straps. I am a small person, and need all straps set to their shortest length. They tend to slide out a bit from that position, so I will be adding some snaps and hooks to keep them in place.

[Zipper] This pack is really great, and in contrast to another reviewer’s opinion, I think this Lowepro beats the Peak Design 20L everyday backpack. This bag has everything the Peak Design bag has, plus more—a rain cover, an included accessories bag, a better closure system at the top (zipper rather than flap), and better pockets on the inside of the side access pockets. And in my opinion it looks way better. As for the removable shelf system, yes it takes up a bit of your useable space on the inside, but in my experience it actually makes my Nikon D750 and four lenses fit better—less rattling around. I used some dividers from a different Lowepro bag to customize my setup so one lens is on the camera, and the other three are on their own little cubby. And I have room for another lens if I want. My only complaint is that Lowepro doesn’t seem to sell replacement parts such as chest straps, etc. Anyway, I highly recommend this pack. It is full featured and excellent construction using high-quality materials. And as always, B&H’s customer service is wonderful.
