Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I have a Canon C300 and a small prime on this? (is that too heavy?)

A: I used a C100 on mine with a Manfrotto 502HD and a 16-35mm Canon lens. The jib is a high quality product and was quite smooth, so, yes, it worked well, but if you intend to add much more weight to this jib in the future, I'd recommend going with the Pro version.

Q: 2. What is the approximate maximum / minimum angle for the crane arm? In other words, how close to vertical will it go when fully raised or lowered? (I realize this is somewhat dependent on the tripod/mount, but I'm wondering about the crane itself.)

A: I'm not sure on the angle. If set up in a typical fashion, the jib will not hit the legs of a tripod nor will attached standard weights on the rear balance section. On a five foot tall base the unit boasts that it will go from the ground to eleven feet tall. I find that to be pretty close to true. ProAm has a website with slightly more information about the unit that could come in handy. I hope this helps.

Q: 3. Is it possible to point the camera directly down as shown in the 6th photo with only the included parts?

A: No, the added mounting head shown in the 6th image is not included. You will need a separate head to point the camera directly down.

Q: 4. Does it have auto-tilt capability?

A: The Kessler Crane Pocket Jib Traveler has auto-level but not auto tilt. Since Kessler cranes do not offer auto-tilt, they instead utilize electronic pan and tilt heads.

Q: 5. does the have a mechanism to lock tilt?

A: Is possible

Q: 6. What length HDMI cable would I need to run from the DSLR to the monitor that is mounted to the Kessler Pocket Jib Traveller?

A: I don't have it mounted and open right now, but the specs here say 6' max extension from fulcrum, so I'm going to say you'd be safe with a 7-8' HDMI cable, right? You can always tie up the extra near the monitor which can attach to the base (near the fulcrum). If I were shopping for one (good idea, by the way) I would look for something flexible and light. Some of those HDMI cables are stiff and heavy. Good luck!

Q: 7. does this crane need a specific kind of tripod?

A: The base of the Pocket Jib has a 3/8 -16 screw hole so it will mount to the base of any standard tripod leg. You will just want to make sure the tripod you use is rated to support the total payload.

Q: 8. Reference 6th photo of DVC 210 crane/jib. Can someone identify the tilt head in the photo?

A: According to ProAm, this is the Micro Fluid Head 3126 by Manfrotto - which is unfortunately no longer sold by B&H. A similar alternative to this item is the Manfrotto 128RC MA128RC (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/553886-REG/Manfrotto_128RC_128RC_QR_Micro_Fluid.html)

Q: 9. Is there a provision to lock the ProAm DVC 210 crane/jib into a position?

A: To lock this jib into position, there are two items required. For tilt, use the Tilt Brake PRTILT (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1090197-REG/proam_usa_camera_crane_tilt_brake.html). For panning, use the 360° Pan Lockable Bearing Mount PRDVC38BM (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1090196-REG/proam_usa_dvc_38bm_360_deg_pan_lockable_bearing.html)

Q: 10. Does the jib come with everything you need to keep the camera perfectly level as you tilt up and down, or is there some other fitment that is needed to achieve this? Can I clamp a DSLR to the end of it, move it up and down and the camera will stay perfectly horizontal?

A: As long as you set the level first, you will achieve a level move. The jib is portable so you are limited to the move distance.

[Aluminum] I have had my Pocket Jib Traveler for a few years. I was always troubled by not being able to control the camera tilt when I did a vertical slide. For some time a Bescor MP101 solved the problem. Then I overloaded it and stripped the tilt gear. A Ronin-MX has been on the wish list for a long time and it finally went from the wish list to the shopping cart.
I quickly realized the rear extension of the MX would not clear the crane when severely tilted. The MX is designed to be underslung so I built a hanger for it that is long enough to clear the crane arm in any position. The combination pictured is what I call my indoor flight rig.
The tripod is on heavy duty wheels. I look through the GH5 lens with the Panasonic Image App WiFi connected to and iPad. The MX wireless pad completes the rig.
Warning, this is an addicting rig for indoor work. I do like shooting vertical slides. The crane is strained to its limits. I am using 10lbs of counterweight.

[100 mm] If you are using a light camera like the GH4 this jib is perfect! I never thought I would find a jib so light and portable yet very sturdy.

[15 lb / 6.8 kg] I love love love it! After hours of researching the different options for compact, lightweight pocket jibs, I opted for the slightly heavier Kessler because it seems to be built best, carry a heavier camera load, have minimal flex, etc, etc. it does not disappoint. I was able to set it up without following any instructions, and it sets up in close to a minute. Word to the wise, go get a 5lb dumbbell free weight from @ ($) - this jib comes with a cling to hold the weight. 5lbs should do the trick for most cameras... Especially with the adjustability Kessler provides... Sliding the weight back/forth until it's just right, then lock 'er in. Enjoy!

[15 lb / 6.8 kg] I've rented jibs before and even hired a crew for a big event. I've always wanted my own, but they were typically big and clunky. This is great! Lightweight - works on my standard tripods - easy to set up. Of course, it's not going to get those sweeping views of a performance in a big theatre, but for simple motion shots, it's excellent.
