[Yes] I bought the tripod without the spreader and used it like that for a couple months. �It works ok like that, but it works much better with the spreader, and it didn't cost that much more. �It's well worth it. 5

[Fluid Head] Vinten heads come with very low bowl clamps, and that's fine if you have a wide opening to work with. But the Flowtech 75 is a narrow opening, and that makes it difficult to adjust the short Vinten clamps. This one is designed specifically for use with these legs, so it's the perfect fit, offering more to grab when you reach for it. And, it's still short enough that it doesn't hit the ground when the legs are lowered to their lowest point. 5

[Fluid Head] I bought this setup to replace a Miller head I used on a Gitzo tripod for years. While that setup was very good the Sachtler is just a bit better especially with really long, heavy glass like the 600 f4. The setup on these legs is very fast but takes some getting used to. They work perfect for chasing Elk and deer in the mountains which is where I typically use this. The head easily handles the weight of my 400 2.8 and allows me to use the 600 f4 when needed. Shooting stills from a fluid head is a breeze and I prefer this over the gimbal heads I used to use for birds in flight with long glass. If you can get past the high cost you will be happy with your choice. 5

[Yes] I put these handles on on all of my big tripods (Gitzo, no name brands, etc.) as long as the tripod include an 3/8 accessory socket. Some time it doesn't quite fit but nothing that a Dremel can't fix. 5
