Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Could this item be used to attach a small shelf or mouse tray to a tether table? I need to find a solution that will support the weight of the mouse and my arm.

A: No, this isn't designed to hold your arm. Please call or chat with us to discuss how we can help you to meet your needs.

Q: 2. Can I bring this as a carry on item on a flight?

A: Yes, the Manfrotto 244N Variable Friction Magic Arm may be carried in a carry-on case for flight travel.

Q: 3. Is there a longer arm or extension? I need about 14 t0 18 more inches.

A: Not that Im aware of. Call b and h and the reps can help.

Q: 4. What's in the box with this item? any threaded ends?

A: The second product photo here shows each of the two studs has a female threaded end; one slightly larger than the other, so I assume one is a 1/4" female thread, and the other is a 3/8" female thread.

Q: 5. I have a Manfrotto tripod with 100cm rail/slider and I'd like to know if the 422n Magic Arm will extend to the end of my rail? If so, I'll probably need to purchase additional hardware to support the Magic Arm to rail. Any suggestions will be helpful and thanks for your time.

A: you will need manfroto 635 quick action clamp to attach to your rail. also ends of friction arm are two different sizes 1/4 and 3/8 good thing depending on your mounting set up ,kevin vmsg ventura

Q: 6. Is the spigot at the end removable (presumably resulting in a male threaded stud) so I can attach the arm to my MVH500AH that has a female threaded hole?

A: You will need to buy Impact 3/8" to 3/8" Adapter Spigot B&H # IMCA115 to mount your head on the arm.

Q: 7. Is the quick release Arca-Swiss compatible or is this a proprietary Manfrotto quick release?

A: It is not Arca Swiss compatible. It is a proprietary Manfrotto release.

Q: 8. Will it work on Odyssey 7Q+ and Sony FS700? Or should I use another Magic Arm? Thanks.

A: The 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm with Camera Bracket is much heavier than you need for that application, in my opinion. Depends on your rig or setup. But a smaller extension device will likely be more acceptable.

Q: 9. Is this product capable of housing the Canon VIXIA HF R700 for water use? And if not, then what or which casing will? Thank You.

A: No, this is made specifically for the Ultramax. There is no specific underwater case for the Canon R700.

Q: 10. Do I order a mafer clamp with or without a stud for this?

A: You would order a clamp without a stud, as the stud is already built onto the end of the Manfrotto 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm with Camera Bracket.

[1.315 lb] I have owned the Manfroto 143RC Magic Arm for years. This is the one with the lever to lock it down, versus this one that has a knob instead. I don't know what took me so long to get this one, but I'm glad I did. I use it to mount a remote camera on the back of a basketball net. So I can get those great dunking shots. Don't get me wrong, the older Magic Arm works great and I still use it, but for applications where it's tough to reach and you need an easier way to lock the arm down, this is the one to get.

[1.315 lb] This is essentially the same exact arm as the manfrotto version, but with the Avenger style locking knob, which I personally feel is a much better grip, easier to lock down, more compact, and more comfortable on your hand. Essential piece of equipment for any photographer.

[1.315 lb] I use this arm to position a camera for a vision system lab at my desk. The flexibility of the arm allows almost infinite positions of the camera to prototype how I will mount the camera on a machine. I Would definetly recommend to anyone who needs to frequently reposition a camera or light.

[1.315 lb] I purchased the magic arm primarily for use on a camera slider. I use it for shooting unorthodox angles and it helps to expand my creative possibilities. I love the ease and flexibility of mounting options and the overall sturdiness even at the most obtruse angles. The locking arm feels solid and locks everything in place firmly. I shoot with a DSLR so this arm suits my application perfectly. So far even mounted with a 5D with battery grip, a 70-200mm f/4l i've yet to be concerned about the sturdiness of the rig. I have no complaints so far and it is one of the most versatile and useful tools i have in my weapons cache! I will likely be using this for lighting setups in the near future too.

[3" / 7.6 cm] I've been using these on shoots for over 10yrs and it's a game changer. When traveling I take this instead of a second tripod and simply attach it to one of the legs of my tripod or a table, stand, chair, etc. I use it for smaller lights like the Wescott Ice Light II's or to mount my iPad Teleprompter to the front of the tripod. It's not light but it is incredibly strong, solid, and durable. You need to purchase the Manfrotto 035RL Super clamp with this to make it work in most situations.

[3" / 7.6 cm] The Avenger variable friction arm looks to be identical to the Manfrotto product, except for the tightening knob. I like the Avenger knob better, and the product is less expensive than the Manfrotto.
