Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I also would like to know what setting to use with my Canon Pro-100 for Canon Fine Art Enhance Velvet Paper. I am using the setting: other fine arts paper 2 and that seemsto work well. My question is: what is the correct printer setting for this paper?

A: The Canon Print Studio Pro software application that comes with the printer will have the ICC profile for all of the Canon papers. Use this program for printing your photos.

Q: 2. Are there any pockets to store accessories?

A: The Miller Softcase for 2-Stage Toggle 2 Tripod Systems (Black) has an external pocket for accessories and a card holder.

Q: 3. How heavy duty is the zipper? Is it comparable to Tenba or Lightware? YKK-10? Lastly, how thick and dense is the padding?

A: While Miller Tripods state they have not directly compared the Miller Softcase for 2-Stage Toggle 2 Tripod Systems to the Tenba case, the case design and padding appear to be similar. The differences may come down to the size and compartment for storage. They do not indicate if the case uses a YKK zipper, but the zipper should be heavy duty.

Q: 4. Hello, will this fit and tighten securely on atop a C-Stand?

A: Yes, this has a 16mm connection point which is what is on top of a C-Stand

Q: 5. With this stand can I get my light down to the floor? because I know you can do it with the column stand, but I don't have enough height in my studio for that stand

A: Minimum working height is 42.5".

Q: 6. How does this attach to the light stand? I can't tell from the pictures. Is there another part to purchase to connect the boom to, for example, C-stand?

A: You would use a grip head (Kupo's term), basically a special vice with a stand receptacle. The boom's slotted plate slides into the grip head, which then attaches to a normal stand's stud.

Q: 7. I'm seeking the ICC profile for Canon Fine Art Velvet with the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 printer. Canon's Print Studio Pro doesn't include this profile. I've looked online without success. Any suggestions?

A: It looks like Canon doesn't have a direct profile for this but the Moab Somerset Enhanced velvet paper looks very similar and they have a profile for the Prograf Pro-1000. I would try it as there's a good chance Canon sources this paper from Moab.

Q: 8. Is this compatible with a Canon ipf770?

A: Yes, the Canon Durable Matte Polypropylene Banner (24" x 100' Roll) is compatible with the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF770 36" Large-Format Inkjet Printer.

Q: 9. Can the column be detached from the base on the Manfrotto 299B studio stand?

A: Yes, it can be detached.

Q: 10. Does the 5/8 stud for mounting lighting fixtures have a hex cut to prevent rotation?

A: Yes, the Kupo Photo Baby Boom offers a finished hex cut on the 5/8 stud.

[Universal] Purchased in Feb 2022 with the Solo Q 100mm sticks. My previous tripod was a Vinten 5LF. I loved the Vinten, but with lighter cameras I no longer needed a head that could hold 40 lbs or more. The CX10 holds from 0 to 26 pounds and the 16 steps of counter balance and 5 levels of friction in both directions make for the perfect tool. I use both a Canon cinema camera and a Canon ENG camera on this tripod. No matter which camera or lens, I get remarkably smooth moves. And the CX10 / SoloQ is very light, about 10 pounds. My old Vinten was 16 to 18 pounds at least. The Carbon fiber legs are stiff and rigid. A wonderful purchase.

[Handle] I ordered this head to use on my Gitzo series 5 tripod along with the gitzo 100mm half bowl. Quality is fantastic, motion is smooth and fluid and is extremely durable. Only issue, the stud that mounts to the ball clamp is too short and needed to be longer to use on the Gitzo tripod. Called Miller US and had them send me a longer one, without issue.

[Zipper] As my cameras got bigger, I had to upgrade my fluid head from really old Manfrotto. I first tried the Miller Air fluid head, but found it did not have the range or resolution for counterbalance adjustment I was looking for. The CX10 is substantially more expensive, but the 16-steps of counterbalance and 5 steps of drag adjustment are just perfect for me. The counterbalance setup is simple: set drag to zero, slide the camera-plate forward/backward to locate the center of mass, then increase the counterbalance to get the best balance over the range planned for the shot. Finally bring-up the drag to get the feel you want.

Some reviews of the CX series complain they can not get perfect balance, and experience kick-back and drift at the tails of tilts or pans (especially when using long lenses where the effect is amplified). But I have found that a combination of proper balance setting, higher drag, and user technique can give me perfect starts and stops with zero kick-back. One of the keys is to use a high drag setting and a firm had to initiate the tilt/pan. Then ease-up to the stopping point, and just hold briefly for a second before releasing the handle. This works perfectly for me every time. And by the way, poor tripod torsional stiffness can make even a perfect fluid head appear to have pan-axis kickback, but in reality it is the tripod legs kicking-back, not the head (mount this on the 26 pound Kessler K-pod tripod, and you will see how perfectly it works with an infinitely-stiff tripod). For typical shooting situations, I mount this on a Manfrotto 536 and it is a great combination.

This head is tremendously sturdy and solid - really well-made with silky-smooth bearings and absolutely zero play in any axis. I also love the size, grip and feel of the pan bar (handle) - it is big and beefy, feels great in the hand. Now that I have it, I wish I had bought a nice fluid head years ago! Miller has done a great job on this one!

[Zipper] Buttery smooth pan and tilt and the ability to precisely dial in the counterbalance makes this a unique and excellent head. I have had mine for about 2 years and love it.

[Zipper] This replaced a well know brand fluid head and the difference was night and day. The counter balance is smooth, super easy to use, and convenient top plate loading.

I have no disappointment and am considering the accessory plate.

[Universal] Have been using it since October of 2021, and I am very happy with it. The adjustments took a little getting used to, there is a learning curve. Needed to practice to get the hang of it (by that I mean ability to adjust during a shoot without thinking).

The CS6 is more than adequate for my light set up (Red Komodo or R5 with a Canon 100-400 or 100-500 lens). Buttery smooth pans and tilts. Feels good in my hands, a pleasure to use. Should be good for much heavier setups but be careful to make sure you have the right model for your needs.
