The Audix OM2 Handheld Dynamic Microphoneis a handheld hypercardioid dynamic microphone designed to deliver highly directional capture of vocals and instruments in recording sessions and live stage applications. It boasts low handling noise and a hypercardioid polar pattern, which not only minimizes feedback caused by nearby monitors and speakers, but also reduces the pickup of stage bleed and room ambience. The dynamic element's low-mass diaphragm responds quickly to transients and handles sound pressure levels up to 140 dB.

It produces a frequency response of 50 Hz to 16 kHz with a mild rise centered at approximately 150 Hz along with a moderate presence boost above 2 kHz. The gold-plated XLR 3-pin output ensures compatibility with most microphone preamps and mixer inputs, and the zinc alloy body with a dent-resistant steel mesh grille provides road-ready protection and durability. The OM2 was designed, assembled, and tested in the USA, and ships with a microphone clip and carrying pouch.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with a Zoom H1 with a mini plug adapter? How is it powered?

A: This microphone has a dynamic element so it does not require a power source to operate, however you would need to ensure your adapter includes a low-to-high impedance-matching transformer. This will convert the mic's low impedance output to the high-impedance input required by the handheld recorder.

Q: 2. For a Canon 70d I know I need a xlr to 3.5mm cable so the mic connects to my camera, But I was wondering which cable would I need to do that? There's so many options. Which xlr to 3.5mm cable should I get from this site. Thanks

A: The recommended cable adapter for DSLR connection is the Kopul LMT-100. This is an 18 cable adapter. To run the length from the mic to adapter would require a standard XLR mic cable. Available in lengths from 1 to 100 feet.

Q: 3. How long is the cable?

A: 16.5 inches

Q: 4. does this mic have an on/off switch?

A: No.

Q: 5. Will this microphone work with a Canon Rebel eos T7i, or would I need an adaptor?

A: You may purchase an XLR adapter such as the Marantz Professional PMD-602A 2-Channel DSLR Audio Interface, B&H # MAPMD602A, along with the Kopul CMX-RC30 Right-Angle Coiled Stereo Mini Cable (Black, 8 to 24"), B&H # KOCMXRC30B, or you may purchase an XLR to 1/8" (3.5mm) miniphone cable such as the Kopul XRSM 3-Pin XLR Female to 3.5mm RA Stereo Mini-Plug Cable (10'), B&H # KOXRSM10B, for your usage needs. The Kopul cable would be a simple cable and the more economical option, whereas the Marantz PMD-602A would allow you to use a standard XLR cable and allow you to control the level of the microphone, along with allowing you to use two (2) microphones simultaneously and monitor the audio using headphones.

Q: 6. Is E835 mic compatible with Sennheiser XSW-D wireless system? (Iwanna replace with XS1 mic).

A: Hi Tevfik - Yes! The XSW-D Vocal Set is compatible with any dynamic microphone (or battery powered microphone) - enjoy the upgrade to the e 835!

Q: 7. IS the mic clip for the stand included with the stage kit?

A: Yes, the mic clip is included and will be found in the box with the microphone. Very often manufacturers will ship the mic clip with a little insert that allows use with boom poles. If it is inserted in the threading of the mic clip, use a dime as a tool to back out and remove the insert and you'll be all set.

Q: 8. The specs state that the "Circuitry" is "solid state" but if it is a dynamic microphone without transistors or ICs then there are no solid state devices, just wires. What exactly does the "circuitry" consist of?

A: There are no active electronics in this microphone. Just a magnet and a voice coil.

Q: 9. How does this mic compare to the Shure SM58?

A: The audio specs for the frequency response range and sensitivity of f50S and SM58 are fairly close. Both mics can handle very loud sounds but the SM58 will retain more clarity at the very highest sound pressure levels. In terms of construction, both mics are made of metal and are very durable. Both mics include a pouch and mic clip. There is a difference in the length of the manufacturer's warranty. The f50S has a 3-year warranty and the SM58 has a 2-year warranty. The f50S has an on/off switch and there is a SM58S model (B&H # SHSM58S) that includes an on/off switch. There is also a difference in price between the Audix and Shure mics which may also be a consideration. Please feel free to contact us by phone or through live chat on the website if you have additional questions or if you would like further assistance.

Q: 10. what type of amp is best for this mic and harmonica?

A: Many harmonica players like to use a microphone through a small combo amplifier designed for guitar to achieve a tone with a little more grit and dirtier tone than a standard PA speaker. Perhaps something like the Blackstar Debut 15E Stereo 15W Practice Guitar Amplifier (B&H # BLDEBUT15EBG) or the Roland CUBE-10GX Guitar Amplifier (B&H # ROCUBE10GX), or the VOX Valvetronix VT20X Hybrid Modeling 1x8 Combo Guitar Amplifier (B&H # VOVT20X).

[Hypercardioid] this mic does a great job on the bottom side of the snare. Nice crisp high end, nice mids. Sounds better than the small condenser mic we were using.

[Solid-State] The i5 is great on guitar cab and snare...The SM57 is warmer, but if you need a brighter tone... This is it!

[Black] I've installed dozens of Audix wireless systems in churches, schools and other facilities throughout the Lehigh Valley in Eastern Pennsylvania and nearby New Jersey. Never a hiccup or issue. This handset is almost always a part of the solution. Mostly metal, it takes a couple of AA batteries and runs for up to 8 hours. The sound is great, full-bodied without being boomy and with crisp highs. I can't recommend these enough, they are my favorite wireless vocal system!

[End Address] I was tired of listening to myself singing with the Audio Technica AtT2010 for 2 years, proximity effect was awful on that mic. With the Audix vx5 everything is better, no more proximity effect!!! Voice is warm, clarity is high, I love it. Thanks to B&H also, I got the price match and received the microphone in 3 days, I live in California, what a great company to deal with.

[Mono] I have personally used the mic over the guitar amp and also to mic saxophones.

[On/Off] A great multi-purpose dynamic mic, I use this small-sized, big-sounding tool for instruments and vocals alike. It obviously excels on the snare drum and on guitar cabinets, but I like the sound I get from it on various percussion, brass and lower-toned woodwind instruments. It doesn't have the shrill high-end crispness of a condenser, but you don't always need that. Overall, it sounds clean and strong, and adeptly resists feedback.
