The Tiffen 80A Color Conversion Filter 6.6x6.6"helps to increase the color temperature from 3200 to 5500K, allowing the use of daylight-balanced film in tungsten-lit conditions. The cooling effect of this filter requires a 2-stop increase in exposure for normal results.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. It measures 6.6 x 6.6" / 167.6 x 167.6mm.

A: The Tiffen 77mm 80C Color Conversion Filter can do that, but only in very specific situations. The lights must be 3800K, you want to increase them to 5500K, and you are also using daylight film. If you are taking photos digitally it is much easier and more flexible to take photos in RAW and use the Datacolor SpyderCUBE RAW Calibration Tool BH #DAS3CQ. You take a photo of the cube under the lights, then use the white balance dropper in computer software such as Lightroom and click on the cube in the photo. The software will then remove the color cast and you can apply that same setting in the software to all of the other photos taken under the same lights.

[0.9 lb] I use the 80A all the time on my DSLRs with the WB set to daylight. That setting is right for interiors lit by incandescent. The strong correction of the 80A really comes into its own with mixed lighting, e.g. a large church interior with daylight coming through the windows. The light-loss is not small, but you will avoid hideous under-exposure & noise resulting from the meter's seeing light which is not useful. Other things being equal, everything including the areas lit by true daylight will be correctly exposed. B&H's price was reasonable and the shipping prompt and efficient. 5

[0.9 lb] My use of this filter is very unconventional but works great. By removing the metal ring, the glass itself is a perfect fit to drop right into the optics of the Stella Pro Reflex S lights allowing me to warm the color temperature of the lights to mix well into tungsten environments. 5

[0.9 lb] This is a necessary filter to shoot Tungsten film in daylight. I had a roll of 120 Cinestill800t film that I was shooting in both tungsten interiors and daylight exteriors so I wanted a filter to neutralize some of the color shifts shooting Tungsten in daylight exterior brings. While shooting tungsten film in daylight settings is able to be color corrected in post, that does equal time + work. Having an 85 filter definitely will speed up the post work flow. In regards to the different levels of 85 filter, B works great for me. I'm sure the other levels are to taste, but using 85 I didn't wish it were warmer or cooler after seeing the images I got back. 5

[0.9 lb] As always, Tiffen is pricy, but the manufacturing is flawless. The conversion to daylight is good but not as effective as with older E6 formulas. Aristas color reversal is a zero. Cinstills CS6 is far better but requires at least 2 85B filters for a fuller correction. Oh for the days of Tetenol!!! 5

[0.9 lb] I am experimenting with colors on film. This filter is definitely darker than the 85B, and therefore shows. Sometimes you need to skip or jump to a filter gradation order because they are too close in shade - but not this one. Haven't found anything negative. Tiffen filters are good and are readily available. 5
