The Vinten FH-155 Robotic Manual VR Head 22-Bit Encoderis a fully functional robotic head that can be easily switched between robotic and manual modes. Suitable for studio or remote work, the head is nearly silent in either robotic or manual mode and supports up to 155 pounds. It features built-in 22-bit encoders that output precise information for incorporating the head's movements into VR shots. It has a cradle to adjust the center of gravity and balance of your camera on the head for best results. The head features accurate and highly repeatable motion control of the camera as well as compatible Canon and Fujinon servo-controlled lenses.

When switched to manual mode, the head features continuously adjustable servo tilt and pan drag to maintain the smooth function when being operated by a human operator. This head includes a pan handle rosette adapter and two telescoping pan handles. The head can tilt a total of 100° (50° down and 50° up), and can pan 359°. The built-in 3-port Ethernet switch simplifies integration with robotic pedestals and IP prompting equipment. Mounting the head on a tripod or pedestal requires an optional mounting adapter.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How smooth are the pan and tilt movements? Do they ramp up and down, can they be used "on air"?

A: On page 34 of the user manual, the PTR 10 Remote Head is extremely smooth and is able to pan between 0.2–15° / sec and tilt between 0.1–10° / sec. There are 50 PAN/TILT preset positions and you will be able to adjust the pan and tilt acceleration, speed, and torque. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/640738.pdf

Q: 2. Will I be able to use this head if i connect the Canon RC-V100 Remote Controller to a C300 Mk II? in other words is there any other option to connect this head to the camera?

A: The C300 Mark II only has a single LANC input. You should be able to have the C300 Mark II on the Vantage and also be connected to the RC-V100. However you will only be able to control the camera itself through one controller.

Q: 3. Is the tie down (bottom bowl clamp) thread on the blue5 M10, or 3/8 ?

A: We were able to determine it is not 3/8 .

Q: 4. Will i be able to turn on a canon C330 mk ii or a C500 with this head?

A: You can use the Canon C100, C300 and probably the C500. Please email us to confirm the C500. prophoto@bhphoto.com.

Q: 5. Can you remove the half bowl, to mount this to a flat base?

A: Sorry, no, you are not able to remove the ball base on this video head. There are methods of adapting it however. Please see the following suggestions. The Manfrotto Video Head Bowl Adapter offers no leveling but is rock solid, the ikan Hi-Hat Riser offers some leveling and the Alan Gordon Hi-Hat Support I recommend mounting to a board or other support immediately for it is not stable enough for camera use on it's own. The Plywood Mounting Board would be excellent for this purpose. (The mounting board image below is incorrect.)

Q: 6. Will the new Canon CN-E 70-200mm T4.4 Compact-Servo Cine Zoom Lens (EF Mount) With this head?

A: The Canon CN-E 70-200mm T4.4 Compact-Servo Cine Zoom Lens (EF Mount) B&H # CAE70200EF is not listed by Vinton as compatible. However the very similar Canon CN-E 18-80mm T4.4 COMPACT-SERVO Cinema Zoom Lens (EF Mount) B&H # CAE1880EF is. It is therefore our opinion that the 70-200mm will work. See here for the Vinten compatibility chart. a href= http://www.vinten.com/vantage/downloads/Vantage-Compatibility-Chart-New.pdf target= _blank http://www.vinten.com/vantage/downloads/Vantage-Compatibility-Chart-New.pdf/a

Q: 7. Aside from the price what is the difference between this one at $877.50 AND the Vinten Vision blue3 Head (Black) B&H # VIV41060001 MFR # V4106-0001 at $1228.50 ?

A: The difference between the two heads comes down to weight capacity. The the less expensive Vision Blue Pan and Tilt Head can handle 4.6 to 11 lb/2.1 to 5.0 kg while the Vision blue3 Head can handle 6.6 to 14.6 lb/3.0 to 6.6 kg. If you wish, you can extend the blue3's capacity by getting the Vinten bluebridge Small Camera Adapter which allows cameras starting at 4.63 lb/2.10 kg.

Q: 8. I have a PTR-10T Mk II, but am missing the 12V 5A power adapter. How can I purchase one?

A: While the manufacturer does not provide the adapter for sale separately, there are two ways to power the Datavideo PTR-10T Mark II Robotic Pan and Tilt Head (HDBaseT) (B&H# DAPTR10TMKII). The unit will accept a 12VDC barrel input of 3A, although 5A will be needed if power will be drawn from the D-Tap port on the head for the purpose of powering a camera. You may wish to contact the manufacturer regarding their preferred model of adapter: sales@datavideo.com Alternatively, the head will accept Power Over Ethernet (PoE) with the power being fed through the LAN port by a source of PoE such as the TP-Link TL-POE170S PoE++ Injector (Black) (B&H# TPTLPOE170S): https://bhpho.to/3POMj5c

Q: 9. Is there a LANC cable included, or can someone list a product number?

A: The Datavideo PTR-10 MK II Robotic Pan Tilt Head (DVIP) comes with a lanc adapter cable that connects to the camera. It is listed as - 2.5mm Mini Jack to 8-Pin Mini Din Cable (Remote)

Q: 10. Is this compatible with the Proaim Heavy-Duty Mitchell Base Tripod Legs?

A: Yes. Both the tripod and the Vinten V3996-0001 Vector 950 Head will support the Mitchell flat base mount.

[22-Bit] Worth every penny. This is by far the best Video head I have ever used. Side loading, perfect balance. Buttery smooth pan and tilts.

[IP Ethernet] I've owned this head and tripod for a few years now. It's very solid, and about as smooth as any fluid head could be. I've owned others that cost about half or 2/3 as much, but not as good. I've used it in all weather; desert sand and heat, rain, snow, temps down to -30f, wind chills as low as -45. It hasn't skipped a beat. One minor thing... for some reason the pan bar can slip back into the rosette clamp a bit at times. You just have to loosen the clamp, turn andpush the bar back in, and re-clamp. Definitely does not affect the operation, so all 5 stars is what I give it.

[22-Bit] The counter-balance system works silky smooth. I would recommend this tripod video head to anyone who wants their video pans & tilts to be smooth.

[250 VAC, 3.15 A] This tripod is optimized to be light-weight and compact. It has only the most basic features.

You may wish to purchase a leveling base head to ease configuration for level horizontal panning.

The head has four screw knobs for adjustments:

1) Tighten and loosen the horizontal pan locking screw. A half tightened screw results in jerky camera pans, not increased and decreased smooth resistance.

2) Tighten and loosen the vertical pan locking screw. A half tightened screw results in jerky camera pans, , not increased and decreased smooth resistance. The act of un-screwing must be done gingerly to prevent camera shake. The vertical pan includes leveling springs (non-adjustable for camera and lens weight) to aid in smoothly returning to (roughly) level vertical position.

3) change the angle and rotation of the handle.

4) Tighten and loosen the Arca-Swiss plate.

The tripod is made of aluminum with plastic flip locks. The legs are easy to extend, lock, then collapse. The tripod feet can change between using rubber or integrated spikes by screwing the rubber segment up or down on the foot to expose or cover the spike.

The tripod comes with a carrying case that includes a shoulder strap.
