Portrait-length prime is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount cameras, however can also be used on APS-C models where it provides a 136mm equivalent focal length.

Very bright f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and offers great control over depth of field for isolating subjects and working with selective focus.

One hybrid aspherical element is used to reduce distortion and spherical aberrations for greater sharpness and accurate rendering.

An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to individual elements in order to reduce flare and ghosting for increased contrast and a neutral color balance.

Ultrasonic Dual Linear motor delivers quick, quiet autofocus performance. An AF/MF switch is also featured for seamless switching between focusing modes.

Internal focusing design maintains the overall lens length and prevents the front of the lens from rotating during use.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Included lens hood helps to block stray light from causing flare and ghosting.

[28.4°] I'm really enjoying this lens! I'm using it on an A7iii. Likely there are some better 85mm lenses out there, but at a much higher price. This one is fantastic, and the price is very reasonable. Image quality and autofocus are excellent. And it doesn't weight too much, so it's easy to work with.

[Canon EF] Wanted finally a fast 85mm but wanted to limit the cost. Have been using my Sony 90mm f2.8 macro to fill that hole. After checking multiple reviews, decided to buy my first non-manufacturer lens. I'm happy I did. The image quality and sharpness is excellent, both wide open and stopped down. I tested with a lens chart and was really pleased. A minor adjustment to my custom C buttons gave me Eye AF (already had one on MF/AF). F1.4 is fun to use on portraits and low natural light.

[f/16] I based my purchase of this lens primarily on a series of online video reviews. Having shot with the lens for over a week now I am quite happy with it. I have a test for sharpness and contrast that I do with all new lenses I purchase and this one rates very highly even wide open. Contrast is very good wide open which is not always the case with many older 85mm f/1.4 lenses. The bokeh is very pleasing to me and this was a primary reason for me to purchase this lens. The build is very much like the Sony lenses and if it had Sony written on it I doubt that I'd question it. Same goes for the performance. Focus is reasonably quick, quiet and accurate. On some occasions it will do a very quick focus adjustment before settling on the final setting but this is very rapid and is almost like a fine tuning within a very small range. Not really objectionable at all and not noisy. Again this is not in all instances. The lens was received with the latest firmware. V4. Even at a higher price this lens would be a good choice.

[Full-Frame] It's a big lens, but fairly light weight. I am sure most readers will be puzzled if I say I use it with the Sony A7c, but that's the camera it sits on. I have modified the Sony with a grip so that I can hold the camera with this lens better. The other two lenses in this kit are the 35mm/1.8 Samyang and the 18mm/2.8 Samyang. Those three lenses and the A7c are a perfect combination: lightweight, relatively compact, and super image quality. Both the 85mm and the 35mm are super sharp, and the 18mm is fairly sharp in the center. The autofocus of the 85mm is much improved after some firmware updates, and it's faster now than the 85mm GM, at least my version. The lens also distorts less than the Sigma, which I like. Thus, for me, this 85mm/1.4 is the best option to get 85mm/1.4 subject separation and full-frame type bokeh on my Sony A7c as part of a compact kit.

Highly recommended!

[Canon EF] The bokeh at 1.4 is phenomenal. Much sharper than I expected with the price I paid. AF works great, if you're not a professional that needs all of the additional switches such as on the GM or Sigma versions, this is your lens. Also very lightweight and balances well on the a7R iii.

[Autofocus] Compare this to the L series from canon, and it will hold its weight. It quickly turned into my favorite lens's.
