The Audio-Technica AE-2500 is a cardioid kick drum microphone featuring a unique, revolutionary design. The AE-2500 features both, a condenser and dynamic element within the capsule. The dynamic element accurately reproduces signals rich in transient response, so the result is accurate, rich reproduction of sharp attacks without noise and distortion. The condenser element is in place to deliver the warm tonal, resonant response of the drum's shell. Together both elements deliver an accurate, warm kick drum signal without noise, coloration and distortion.

The AE-2500 also provides a low-frequency roll-off switch. Frequencies below 80Hz can be eliminated to reduce noise and improve intelligibility. The cardioid polar pattern is effective in minimizing noise and ambiance at the off-axis sections of the microphone. A 10dB Pad switch increases head room allowing louder, transient rich signals to be reproduced without distortion. The output connection is a 5-pin XLR male and a 16.5-foot (5m), 5-pin XLR female to dual XLR 3-pin male cable is provided. The dual cable design allows users to obtain individual control over each element using two channels on a separate audio mixer or dual preamplifiers.

The AE-2500 features a capsule with a dynamic and condenser element in place. The dynamic element accurately captures the drum's attack, while the condenser reproduces rich warm tones.

The microphones High Pass Filter switch eliminates frequencies below 80Hz. This eliminates structure born noise and other noise registered at low frequencies.

A 10dB Pad switch increases headroom and allows the AE-2500 to better handle transient response while capturing excessively loud signals.

The microphone features a 5-pin male XLR output. A 5-pin female XLR to dual 3-pin male XLR cable is provided and allows individual control over each element.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What transmitter is this headset compatible with?

A: The Audio-Technica AT889cW is compatible with current Audio Technica UniPak transmitters which feature a 4 pin locking Hirose connector. This includes the 1800, 2000, and 3000 series as well as the System 9 and 10 series.

Q: 2. I need to set up Shure SM57 mic on the top of upright piano using a small tripod mic stand (Ultimate Support JS-KD55 - Angle-Adjustable Kick Drum/Guitar Amp Mic Stand) to record piano playing. Would SM57 fit to this sockmount? And, would this shockmount fit to the stand mentioned above? Further more, would this set be ok for recording upright piano? I am just net very experienced with this, and my piano is not positioned for the usual boom stand. kind regards, Jon

A: The 57s diameter is probably too large for that mount.

Q: 3. Does the boom arm telescope, too? Or just the vertical shaft?

A: The boom arm is fixed at 16'', but can be moved back and fourth horizontally.

Q: 4. Will this work with a Rode PSA-1 mic boom? I was hoping it was a little more substantial than some of the other low-end shock mounts.

A: This mount will connect to the Rode PSA1. It will require the 3/8 to 5/8'' adapter that was included with the PSA1. If you do not have that adapter, here's one you can purchase: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1083040-REG/auray_ad_combo_b_5_8_to_3_8.html.

Q: 5. To clip it on your eyeglass arm as a boom aimed at your mouth, would it pull too much on one's plastic eyeglass frame to be able to walk while wearing it?

A: That would not work well that way.

Q: 6. Hi For acoustic guitar recording, what would be the difference between two AE-5100 and a pair of AT-4041SP?

A: The AE-5100 is a large diaphragm instrument mic. It has a wider dynamic range, able to handle higher Sound Pressure levels and better signal to noise ratio than the small diaphragm 4041. In terms of recording acoustic guitar, the AE-5100 does have a richer tone, and offer a better recording of dynamic performances.

Q: 7. What does it come with does it connect to whatever speaker or mixer is it wireless and does it come with the body pack and all that or what?

A: The AT8418 is a mount that allows you to position certain Audio-Technica microphones, which are sold separately, on to a musical instrument.

Q: 8. Will this work being plugged directly into Roland r-26 recorder without further power?

A: The Roland R-26 recorder will supply the required Phantom Power needed for this microphone.

Q: 9. Does this mic have internal shock mounting? How does the handling noise compare to the AT8004?

A: This is a condenser microphone, so it is generally more sensitive than a dynamic microphone like the AT8004. The construction of the microphone is metal and very robust so if you are not doing a whole lot of moving around, handling noise should not be too much of a problem. I would recommend trying it out first and if you experience lots of handling noise for your application, I recommend using a pistol grip with it, like this Auray model. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/885604-REG/auray_grip_universal_mic.html The threads match the adapter and AT8470 Quiet-Flex Stand Clamp that is included with the AT2010.

Q: 10. what stops the popping when singing?

A: The AE 3300 has a metal mesh grill which is foam lined to give you 2 stage protection from popping and sibilance.

[Cardioid] I haven't used it yet but I'm sure it's awesome! Rush used them on tour from 2002-2015...

[Low Cut/HPF] Love how they manage to maintain a smooth frequency response when held close up or away from vocal range. I own three and plans are to purchase seven more. Please make sure you tune them well with your monitors and feed back will be cut to very little or none at all when they are turned toward the monitors.

[-10 dB] This stand has a small but heavy base. The stand without the boom is just the right size to mic our bass drum, so we are not even using the boom. This allows us to have an extra boom to use somewhere else. It takes up a lot less space than the other stand we had micing the bass drum. Great product and was cheaper than other similar products.

[Solid-State] I used to keep my microphone on the table, but all the rats and other varmint were really stanking the thing up. Now, thanks to its surprisingly heavy base and petite boom arm, I can keep the mic ABOVE the desk, close to my mouth at ALL times! I'm going to save a load on windscreens!!!

[Low Cut/HPF] Recently decided to mic up my kit for recording. I'm not a drummer, I'm a guitar player, but I sometimes do record myself playing drums when I'm working on a project. I did not own a bass drum mic so I ordered this from B&H. It's great. I also used it to record the speaker cab for my bass. Came out great.
