Combining a long-reaching zoom with versatile imaging capabilities, the Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ1000 II Camera with Accessories Kitis a well-rounded camera, also characterized by its ergonomic design and intuitive handling. Sporting a large 20.1MP 1" High-Sensitivity MOS sensor, the FZ1000 II is capable of producing high-resolution stills and video with impressively low noise levels and high clarity within the ISO 125-12800 sensitivity range. The sensor and processor also enable shooting continuously at up to 12 fps with single-shot AF, 30 fps at 8MP in 4K PHOTO modes, and UHD 4K video recording at 30p. Additionally, the 4K PHOTO modes allow you to produce stromotion images, which combine sequential exposures into a single frame for a dynamic finished look.

Beyond the imaging, the FZ1000 II is mainly characterized by its physical design and expansive Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 16x zoom lens, which covers a 25-400mm equivalent focal length range, as well as a 5-axis HYBRID Optical Image Stabilizer to minimize the appearance of camera shake. A large 20.1MP 1" High Sensitivity MOS sensor helps to realize rich image quality with reduced noise and high sensitivity to an expanded ISO 25600. The imaging and processing capabilities also avail continuous shooting rates up to 12 fps in single-shot AF mode, 7 fps with continuous AF, or 30 fps at 8MP in the 4K PHOTO modes.

An impressive 16x Leica DC Vario-Elmarit zoom offers a 25-400mm equivalent focal length range along with a maximum aperture range of f/2.8-4 to suit working in available light conditions. The lens construction incorporates five aspherical elements to minimize spherical aberrations and distortions throughout the zoom range and four extra-low dispersion elements help to eliminate chromatic aberrations and color fringing.

Benefitting the long reach of the lens is a 5-axis HYBRID Optical Image Stabilizer that compensates for a variety of camera movements for sharper handheld shooting in difficult lighting conditions. This image stabilization system also enables a unique Level Shot function that automatically detects the horizontal line of the recording image and keeps it level during shooting, regardless of camera tilt, helping to achieve greater shooting stability.

The sensor and processor combination also enables 4K video recording at 30p in the MP4 format at 100 Mb/s. Full HD 1080p and HD 720p recording is also possible, as well as high-speed Full HD recording with 120-fps slow-motion playback.

Besides video, the 4K capabilities also permit recording 8MP stills at 30 fps in a trio of ways:

  • 4K Burst: Just as with video recording, this mode will allow you to continuously record 8MP images at 30 fps for up to 15 minutes, making it ideal for instances where you need a fast frame rate in order to capture the best moment.
  • 4K Pre-Burst: This mode is ideal for times when you're unsure of the critical moment to press the shutter button and will record 8MP images at 30 fps one second prior to and one second after pressing the shutter button in order to give you 60 frames to choose from.
  • 4K Burst (S/S): This mode most closely follows the 4K video recording process, and allows you to playback your video, pause at the chosen moment, and use the shutter button to mark a chosen frame from the video and save it as a single 8MP frame.

An Auto Marking function makes it easy to sift through the hundreds of frames captured with 4K PHOTO modes, and lets you jump to the nearest frame where differences are more pronounced between consecutive frames in order to minimize the time spent reviewing images.

Additionally, Sequence Composition mode can be used to synthesize sequentially recorded images taken with 4K PHOTO modes and composite them into a single dynamic image (a stromotion) that clearly shows subject movement while retaining a single static background.

Another attribute of the 4K capabilities is a unique focusing method called Post Focus. Working in conjunction with the contrast-detection focusing system and the intelligent Depth from Defocus (DFD) technology, Post Focus records imagery as a 4K MP4 file at 30 fps and shifts the specific point of focus throughout the burst shooting in order to offer a range of distinct focusing ranges to choose from. During playback, via the camera's touchscreen, you can then tap the specific region of the image you wish to be in focus and an 8MP JPEG file will be created. Multiple individual files with different points of focus can be created from the original burst and focusing assist functions can also be used to gain even more precise control over the specific in-focus region.

This technology also allows for producing focus stacked images in-camera to realize a greater depth of field, especially when photographing close-up subjects. In this mode, images are recorded and saved with varying points of focus and then blended together to gain an extended depth of field.

  • A Live View Finder (LVF) is integrated into the body design to permit comfortable eye-level monitoring. This 0.39", 0.74x-magnification electronic viewfinder has a 2.36m-dot resolution and covers 100% of the image frame while shooting.
  • Alternatively, a rear 3.0" 1.24m-dot touchscreen LCD monitor is also available for live view shooting, image review, and intuitive menu navigation. The screen features a free-angle design that flips out 180° to the side and then tilts 270° to permit working from high, low, and front-facing angles.
  • A host of manual controls offer simple, direct control over a variety of oft-used camera settings, including 13 assignable Fn buttons.
  • The included rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides you with 440 shots per charge when working with the rear LCD, 290 shots per charge with the electronic viewfinder, or 430 shots per charge when working with the electronic viewfinder in the eco 30-fps setting.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth allow you to wirelessly share photos and movies to linked smartphones and tablets for direct sharing online. This connectivity also allows you to remotely control the camera from a mobile device.

  • Depth from Defocus (DFD) technology affords impressively fast and precise autofocus performance to suit photographing moving subjects.
  • Focus peaking is available for easier, more accurate manual focusing control.
  • Creative Control modes: Expressive, Retro, Old Days, High Key, Low Key, Sepia, Monochrome, Dynamic Monochrome, Rough Monochrome, Silky Monochrome, Impressive Art, High Dynamic, Cross Process, Toy Effect, Toy Pop, Bleach Bypass, Miniature Effect, Soft Focus, Fantasy, Star Filter, One Point Color, and Sunshine.

  • Picture Adjustment settings: Contrast, Sharpness, Noise Reduction, and Saturation.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. has the awful lens motor noise on video been improved over first version?

A: There are no reports at this time of excessive noise.

Q: 2. Hi, does it have French language in the setup menu ?

A: "oui monsieur"

Q: 3. I am very interested in this camera. Does anyone know where this Lumix is made?

A: As of now the country of Origin for the Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ1000 II Digital Camera Is China.

Q: 4. battery life?

A: According to Panasonic, the Lumix DC-FZ1000 II has a battery CIPA rating of 290 shots.

Q: 5. Is this also made in Japan like the first FZ1000?

A: The Country of Origin for this model is Japan.

Q: 6. Does the IBIS actually work in 4K unlike the FZ2500?

A: Optical Stabilizer is available on both the Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ1000 II Digital Camera and Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ2500 Digital Camera during 4K video recording. The only limitation is on the 5-axis Hybrid Image Stabilizer function which uses E-Stabilization. On the Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ1000 II Digital Camera with [Rec Quality] set to [4K/100M/30p] or [4K/100M/24p] the the 5-axis Hybrid Image Stabilizer function is not available, and you are limited to the standard stabilization function. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ2500 Digital Camera has a similar limitation when recording DCI or UHD 4K.

Q: 7. FZ1000 II vs FZ2500? Mainly for video. In dpreview I heard that 1000 (not II) has a little bit sharper lens than 2500 (probably, because of shorter focal length). It's good but not enough to outweigh 2500's pluses: ND, 200mbit in 1080p, longer zoom. Especially, considering equal cost in my country. May it be that 1000 II has better lens than 1000 (= much better than 2500)?

A: It is a matter of opinion but the better video performance in the 2500 makes it a better choice for video. The optical quality is slightly better in the 1000 Mark 2 but not enough to make a difference.

Q: 8. Is lens threaded so a filter may be added?

A: Yes it is , it takes 62mm filters

Q: 9. Is camera weatherized? Thank you.

A: No, the Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ1000 II Digital Camera is not environmentally-sealed or weather-sealed.

Q: 10. Is there a silent mode ? (no shutter noise)

A: Yes.

[Bulb Mode] Let's get this part out of the way, it's not a professional camera. Professional meaning 'engaged in a specified activity as one's main paid occupation rather than as a pastime.'

Having said that there are many pro features but let's not kid ourselves the images would be HQ web worthy but wouldn't be able to blow up more the 8x11 in my opinion.

What I love.
1. Size, feel and ergonomics are great.
2. Zoom, auto focus and capture/record are superfast.
3. Panorama is way better than any phone can do.
4K photo stack is very nice, have no real use for it but very nice.
5. Battery lasts a good while.
6. EVF is a little quirky at first but being a tiny 60fps screen it's great.
7. I come from a video and this is my first stills camera for birding and the Optical zoom to 400mm is great and so is the extra Digital zoom to 800mm takes quality photos at the f.4 range.
8. Image stabilization on photos and video mode is excellent.
9. It's actually a perfect camera to go on my RSC2 gimbal. Easy to balance, has a fold out tilt-able screen and the video is very good quality.
10. Customize your function buttons. Takes a little while to get your preferences in order but very handy indeed.

A few things I don't like, manual focus is a must for capturing birds obscured by branches, twigs, tall grasses etc. but it's really sensitive and many times you'll miss your shot because of it. Auto focus works great in most situations.
Mic is going to pick up focus motor noise.
It doesn't have built in .NDs, it doesn't have an earphone port, it's not as good as a dslr, with a smaller sensor and a quality piece of glass. It doesn't have USB C.

I considered the RX10 IV and the Canon GX3 but they're older cameras by two and four years which as we technology ages quickly.

I think anyone that's interested in buying this camera is going to love it.

[Stereo ] Great digital bridge camera with all the bells and whistles I need, and then some! Wasn't sure about the brand (Panasonic) at first but after playing with it for a while, it's as good as any brand of camera I've used and with the Leica lens, probably better.

[Yes, Flash Only] This is my second Panasonic Lumix digital camera. My first was the Lumix DMC - ZS100, which us still an important travel camera for me. Travel being, riding my bike. What I enjoy is taking photos of flowers, birds, and landscapes especially with clouds.
I purchased the DC - FZ1000 II 8 months ago as I wanted a greater lens range. To date I absolutely love this camera.
What I use predominately is the auto focus mode. I need to spend more time learning the camera's features, which for a novice can feel overwhelming.
I really like the weight and feel of the camera. It is not very heavy and the right handed grip is solid. The neck strap works well along with lacing my right arm through the strap and then having the camera fit right under my right arm.
I use the live view finder exclusively. It is a wonderful size, comfortable on my face, and easy to adjust the sharpness with the diopter.
There is a camera noise when the camera is turned on. This is not any distraction for me.
I am looking forward to expanding my camera knowledge and language to branch out with unique settings. For my current comfort level and a ready shoot, I am stuck on auto focus. Compared to the DMC - ZS100, the battery requires more frequent charging.

[1,240,000 Dot] I read hundreds of reviews and watched dozens of youtube videos to find the right camera. I felt a bridge camera would give me enough zoom and features without having a bag full of lenses. I wanted significant zoom and considered the less expensive Panasonic FX 300. I even placed my order -- but then had second thoughts.

Fortunately B&H let me cancel the order. Even though the FZ1000 II (aka M2) has less zoom than the FZ300, I feel the image quality (1 sensor/20MP) is so much higher that it compensates for it. My photography includes aircraft in flight, aerial photos, and wildlife, like hummingbirds. With the shutter priority setting I've taken some amazing pics.

The touch screen on the FZ1000M2 is great. The previous version wasn't touch screen or I probably would have bought it.

Although B&H kindly provided a memory card, be sure and get a faster/larger SDXC card.

[2,360,000 Dot] Awesome right out of the box. I was looking for a bridge camera for my autistic son that would have ease of use but also allow for further understanding and learning of photography. This camera hit the mark and he is having a blast with it!
