Styled in black, the SPL Elector Preamp Black | High-Quality Audio Preampis a high-quality preamp for use in hi-fi scenarios. The unit is an all-analog take on the Director Mk2, giving you the same VOLTAiR technology and internal circuit topography. Use the Elector with your tape machines, casette recorders, and CD players.

With 3 pairs of RCA and XLR jacks, you can make use of either balanced or unbalanced connections. Connect power amplifiers to the XLR jacks, or use a headphone amplifier with the RCA direct outputs. Additionally, the Elector has a Tape Monitor send and return loop. These use to be a mainstay of the '70s and '80s, but are not usually found on current designs. Using this insert path, you can put your favorite equalizers or outboard processors into the signal to tune the sound for the room. A level calibration switch near the Tape Monitor section allows you to compensate for the levels of consumer gear.

The front of the unit offers a six-way input selector switch, a promient aluminum volume knob, and a pair of VU meters for monitoring the sound. You can calibrate the VU meters for either 6 or 12 dB of headroom.

The Elector is a stereo preamplifier that provides connectivity for six analog (three stereo) sources in the form of balanced XLR inputs, while the other three stereo input channels are standard RCA inputs. Power amplifiers or active loudspeakers can be connected via balanced XLRs and you can connect the Direct Out to your own headphone amplifier.

Volume is controlled in the 120V rail VOLTAiR volume stage and an ALPS RK27 Big Blue potentiometer, providing a sturdy feel and excellent channel matching.

Up to two power amplifiers can be wire-linked and triggered for simultaneously switching power on/off with the Elector. To achieve this, connect the AMP CTL sockets with 3.5mm mono-jack cables to the power amplifier. The Elector sends out a 12V trigger voltage on the sockets A & B to switch on or off one or two stereo amps or two mono blocks.

Volume can be remotely controlled using any existing infrared (IR) remote control.

Q: 1. How can I / Can I blend the two XLR signals into ONE send to a mixer? Example: Two input mics on a snare (top/bottom) into ONE send to Logic.

A: You may use two dynamic microphones (i.e. SM-57LC) in to a mic combiner (IMCOM) and be sure to get an inline XLR phase reversal barrel to flip the polarity on one of the mics.

Q: 2. Hello,According to Sure all of their dynamic microphones are unaffected and will not cause damage or cause poor performance if phantom power is used. Also other sources state if a dynamic mic is newer and or balanced it can be used with phantom power. I have both dynamic (Sure) and condenser mics. Will a dynamic mic damage the Fethead Phantom or will it cause poor audio performance while used with dynamic mics? Thank you and have a great day,McCoy

A: As you know the Fethead Phantom passes phantom power through to the microphone after it uses a portion of it for its own operation. I oubt that a dynamic microphone will damage the Fethead Phantom. However, the impedance of the Fethead Phantom I believe is different than the standard Fethead as it was designed for low impedance condenser mics. The regular Fethead has an impedance of 22K ohm whereas the Phantom version is lower (I believe around 1K). So if you are using a high impedance dynamic mic with the Fethead Phantom the audio performance may be affected. However, a competitor of the Fethead, the Cloudlifter is around 3K, considerably lower than the regular Fethead. I purchased the Phantom version for use with condenser mic and have a different product for my dynamic mics. But I would not be concerned to try Fethead Phantom with my dynamic mics. One issue I had with the Phantom (a few others have reported it as well) is that with one of my condenser mics (none of the others) it was picking up signals from a local radio station. I spent a considerable amount of time trying to discover why this was happening as normally that was not an issue with that mic. I ended up adding a Sescom inline RF filter (SES-Inline-EMCM) at the end of the XLR cable before it goes into the mixer. This worked very well and eliminated all the RF signal. And in fact I found I could attach the Fethead Phantom to the Sescom adapter without any issues. Normally Triton recommends that the Fethead is attached directly to the mic connector. I hope the above helps.

Q: 3. Are the input and output impedances in this description correct? They're backwards from other the other Bellari preamp, and mismatched for common turntable cartridges as far as I can tell, but exactly backwards so I bought something else. I wanted this one, but since the company did not respond to my question, I did not buy one. Maybe someone has one and can test it.

A: Yes. The listed input and impedances of: Input: 47 K ohm (high impedance) and Output: 32 ohms(low impedance) These are the correct specs and typical (though the output impedance is lower than most phono pre-amps.

Q: 4. Works whit beta 87?

A: This would work with a Shure Beta87a.

Q: 5. What does this run on? Does it require batteries? Since it supplies you with Phantom Power, do you need to put in any batteries or where does it get the power from? How long will this last or its 24/7?

A: It passes through phantom power from the host device. it does not provide phantom power by itself. There is no power supply. This is an an in-line device.

Q: 6. I know there doesn't seem to be any way to turn off the phantom pass through. Can you use this on dynamic mics like the Shure SM7b without any problem? Thanks.

A: The FetHead Phantom is only designed for condenser mics. The standard FetHead is designed specifically for dynamics such as the SM7B and ribbon mics as well.

Q: 7. Does this work with a Bluetooth adapter line in signal?

A: Yes you can go from the line output of the Rolls DU30b into a bluetooth transmitter.

Q: 8. Which version is better for ribbon microphones and ZOOM H6 recorder (with a phantom power on board)?

A: The FedHead Regular. Does not pass phantom to the ribbon microphone, and uses the phantom onboard the ZOOM to give gain to the ribbon mic.

Q: 9. How is this with omni-directional mics? Primarily for field recording in nature. Löm Usï Pro pair into a sound devices 552. Less than 10 ft. Cable.

A: This would work well. It provides 18 dB of gain to condenser mics, and the polar pattern really does not come in to play, but you're mic will seem a lot hotter.

Q: 10. is this worth it even if the turntable has built in preamp?

A: If your turntable has a built-in phono preamp, then this pre is not required. The benefit to using an external phono preamp is usually based in the coloring of the sound it brings to the output of the record. External phono preamps of good quality, such as this, can offer more depth and clarity to the audio signal. As well, the cartridge impedance selector on this device can help you get the most out of the cartridge used.

[135 dB] I was on the fence about needing a new pre amp for the studio. We picked up the really nice Pre Amp and Wow !! What a difference in my vocals.
I highly recommend this if your looking for a pre amp into your DAWS.
Game Changer for me.

[9.4 lb / 4.3 kg] This is my second RNP I have purchased... I have each one connected to the FMR RNC... one this makes tracking a breeze and two it balances the signal out of the RNCs. Everything wonderful people say about these is true...if you can't get a good recording out of this box, its not the box's issue. I also have a pair of Grace M101s (super clean pre) and there is frankly very little difference between the RNP and the Grace...in a mix I don't thing one could tell the difference. These are that good, yes...
