Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this compatible with the Panasonic Lumix G Vario 100-300mm/f4.0-5.6?

A: Unfortunately Panasonic DMW-TC20 2x Teleconverter is not compatible with Panasonic Lumix G Vario 100-300mm/f4.0-5.6.

Q: 2. Will this work on the upcoming Leica DG Vario-Elmar 100-400mm f/4-6.3 II ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens?

A: The Panasonic DMW-TC20 2x Teleconverter is compatible with the Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmar 100-400mm f/4-6.3 II ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens.

Q: 3. Will it work with the Elmarit 200mm f/2.8? I would assume that since it is designed for the 70-200 zoom lens it would work the 200 fixed...but you know what happens when you assume anything.

A: The Panasonic DMW-STC20 Lumix S 2x Teleconverter is compatible with only two lenses: Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/4 O.I.S. Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/2.8 O.I.S.

Q: 4. Is this Teleconverter works with the macro 60mm Olympus?

A: No, this Teleconverter does not work with a macro lens.

Q: 5. Is this compatible with only the 200mm lens?

A: It's compatible with the 200/2.8 AND the Panasonic/Leica 50-200mm f/2.8-4 lens. It is not compatible with any other lenses.

Q: 6. I read it only works with 70-200 mm panasonic lens but the 24-70 is the same size 80mm? Will it not work with that lens?

A: Teleconverters are typically only compatible with tele zoom lenses and not wide to medium zooms. In addition the converter will not seat into the rear of the 24-70mm lens due to the rear lens element.

Q: 7. With Panasonic Lumix G Vario 100-300mm/f4.0-5.6: would it work without image stabilization and with MF?

A: No, Panasonic DMW-TC20 2x Teleconverter is not compatible with Panasonic Lumix G Vario 100-300mm f/4-5.6 II POWER O.I.S. Lens. The list of compatible lenses for the teleconverter is under the product overview information.

Q: 8. Since you loose 2 f stops, using on the Panasonic Lumix 70-200 F/4 is equivalent to f/11?

A: That is incorrect. When using the Panasonic DMW-STC20 Lumix S 2x Teleconverter on the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/4 O.I.S. Lens, the focal length of the lens is multiplied by 2x while the maximum aperture of the lens is reduced by two (2) f-stops. As such, using the Panasonic DMW-STC20 Lumix S 2x Teleconverter on the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/4 O.I.S. Lens would make the lens the equivalent of a 140-400mm f/8 lens.

Q: 9. I see that many people have success with that TC on a Sigma 150-600mm. Is there a possibility that it also works with 100-400?

A: It is not listed as compatible. Only way to know is to try it out. Even if it works you may get other issues such as error messages. I wouldn't recommend it.

Q: 10. Are there plans for other Lumix teleconverters? Specifically, I shoot with a G9 and want to expand my 100-300mm (F4) range without adding the weight of a 400mm lens.

A: We haven't heard anything yet. As soon as Panasonic makes an announcement, then we'll know. You may want to check Panasonic's website from time to time.

[2x] It pairs perfectly with my Lumix DC-G9 in TTL mode. Small but puts out a lot of light. Built-in diffuser and bounce panel eliminate the need for any accessories. Back panel cluttered but fairly easy to use. Tilting and rotating flash head make getting the amount and direction of light easy. Also does a great job of fill flash when outdoors.

[2 Stop] It does fit the Olympus 300mm. The auto focus and exposure are working properly. I have not critically evaluated the picture quality, but have high hopes because lens and teleconverter seem to work quite well together. Olympus and Panasonic continue making compatible products that work well together.

[0.815 lb] The build quality is excellent, this teleconverter fits securely to my Panasonic 70-200 f2.8. I can move about with confidence and am also very happy with the autofocus. I've perceived no difference in autofocus performance.

There is a minor decrease in sharpness, which is to be expected in a teleconverter. The decrease in sharpness is worth the reach for video and most of the time for stills. I report most of the time because the S1 does well with cropping images. If you find yourself at 200mm cropping significantly, this teleconverter will most certainly help retain an image that fills the frame.

At the time of writing this review, there is no L-Mount super telephoto lens appropriate for wildlife or sports. This teleconverter is not an ideal substitute for such a lens but works for a great many scenarios, especially video. Ultimately the 70-200 f2.8 with teleconverter is significantly more workable for me than a sigma 150-600mm f5-6.3

[2x] This is the first external flash I have purchased for quite some time. However, it does the job very well. I found it somewhat intimidating to figure out how to get it to work with my new Lumix FZ1000. Being an old f8 at 1/60th photog, these new gadgets can take some adjustment, but if you can conquer your fear, and read the tiny print in the instruction manual, they work well.
I would only recommend a really simple instruction manual, either for the flash unit or the FZ-1000.

[4.9 x 4.05 x 4"] I'm not sure why Panasonic lists the 200mm lens as the only one compatible. The PL 50-200 f/2.8-4 lens works perfectly with this teleconverter. I purchased the two together and am very happy with the combination. When you put this 2x teleconverter between your lens and camera you immediately lose two stops of light. So, in my case, I get a 100-400 f/5.6-8. That's a bit slower than the dedicated PL 100-400 f/4-6.3. However, I didn't want to buy the 50-200 alone and still be wishing I had the reach out to 400mm, only to have to turn around and buy the 100-400 anyway.

All lens functionality works, and the metadata is accurately portrayed (pictures show 400mm when taken at maximum focal length, etc).

The biggest downsides are: loss of 2 stops of light, softer image quality when compared to the lens alone and price. The first two are expected with any teleconverter. The third... well, keep your eyes open for deals and bundles.

Overall, I'm happy I got it. It's allowed me to get up close and personal with some of the small birds that regularly call my yard their home.

[Leica L] I had previously said it works with Olympus. It does, but the image stabilization does not recognize the teleconverter. The 300 mm lens gets IS for 300 rather than 600 mm. It still works well, but you do need a higher shutter speed.

[4.9 x 4.05 x 4"] I finally received the lens and was able to use the teleconverter. All that it said it was and more!

[2x] I use the STC 14 with Lumix S Pro 70-200 f/2.8 and a Leica SL2 body. Works well, very sharp. I am pleased. NO lens update is required.
