The FotodioX WonderPana 145 Core Unit for Panasonic 7-14mm Lensis compatible with the FotodioX WonderPana 145, FreeArc, and Absolute filter holder systems. It helps to reduce reflections as well as glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

The FotodioX 145mm Circular Polarizer Filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity and features lightweight, aluminum-alloy filter rings. A rear filter ring connects to a compatible filter holder while four brass knobs along the side of the front filter ring allow the filter glass to be easily rotated. This provides the ability to achieve the desired degree of polarization even if another filter is placed in front of the FotodioX 145mm Circular Polarizer Filter.

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.

Polarizing filters arrange, and filter, directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.

Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.

Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.

1.25 to 8x filter factor reduces exposure by 0.3 to 3 stops.

Constructed from optical glass for clarity.

Lightweight, aluminum-alloy filter rings along with four brass side knobs allow the filter glass to be easily rotated. The desired effect can be easily achieved even if another filter is placed directly in front.

Filter pouch included for storage and transport.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Where can I find a replacement front lens cap for this lens?

A: Unfortunately we do not carry the replacement lens cap for the 7-14mm lens, but I was able to find the name of the lens cap: Panasonic VFC4412. You would have to search for that item elsewhere to find a replacement for your lens.

Q: 2. Will a Nikon 180-600 lens attached to Z9 body fit in the version 3 large DSLR core unit?

A: The Nikon Z9 Mirrorless Camera with the Nikon NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR Lens (Nikon Z) will fit in the Shimoda Designs DSLR V3 Core Unit (Large).

Q: 3. Can I stack both filters and will it cause vignetting?

A: Yes, it will but only at very wide apertures

Q: 4. will this lens work on the gh4 camera?

A: Hi Tim. Yes it works perfectly on a GH4. I have both.

Q: 5. Mine came with a extra lens hood, does the lens hood come off?

A: Its an integrated hood to protect that large glass and shield it from light. Its actually engineered very carefully to allow the widest possible field of view while still avoiding lens flair which wide angles are notorious for.

Q: 6. Will this fit a Lumix G85??

A: The Panasonic Lumix G Vario 7-14mm f/4 ASPH. Lens is compatible with the Panasonic Lumix G85 Mirrorless Camera.

Q: 7. Will this fit into the ORIGINAL 40L backpack?

A: Yes, the Shimoda Designs DSLR V3 Core Unit (Large) will fit inside the Shimoda Designs Explore 40 Backpack (BH #SHE40BPBN).

Q: 8. Can I use a 77mn variable nd filter with this adaptor? I have tokina 16-18 mm

A: FotodioX WonderPana 145 Core Unit Kit for Tokina 16-28mm Lens is very wide. It accepts 145mm filters. Unfortunately 77mm filters won't work as they are too small.

Q: 9. Could you fit 2 small core units inside a 30L Shimodo Explore V2? Like, to use one for drone hear and the other for camera gear?

A: The Shimoda Designs Explore V2 30 Backpack will comfortably hold only one of the Shimoda Designs Small Core Unit for Mirrorless Camera. Two units will put too much strain on the zipper.

Q: 10. Will the small core unit line up with side access on the Action X50 backpack?

A: The Shimoda Designs Small Core Unit for Mirrorless Camera was made for smaller interiors than that of the Shimoda Designs Action X50 V2 Backpack (Black, 50L), BH #SHV2AX50B, so you may have to find a way to fill in the extra space, or us the compression straps to hold the core in the correct position, but it should be possible to align the side access zipper with the side access zipper of the backpack.

[0.365 lb] I'm an architect in the process of resurrecting my architectural photography skills by doing back up project photography for my firm. Forty-two years ago I was using a Nikon F and a Nikkor 35mm PC lens. I recently invested in a Canon 6D and the 24 & 17mm TS-E lenses. I've missed not having a polarizing filter on the 17mm until a few weeks ago when I was in NYC and ran across an architectural photographer using the WonderPana polarizing filter. I immediately ordered one and have had several occasions to use it since. My immediate reaction is that the polarizing effect may not be quite as dramatic as I am used to, but it is effective none-the-less and certainly better than not having the filter. Also, I am being very careful with it given some of the review comments about the little brass nibs breaking off. So far, so good!
