The filter is designed to block specific wavelengths of light, targeting those bands that are transmitted by artificial light such as mercury vapor and high- and low-pressure sodium vapor lights. By blocking this stray atmospheric light, the filter turns the sky a pitch black for enhanced contrast of bright and dim objects against the backdrop of space. It also helps to correct chromatic aberrations on refractors and removes the bluish tint, or lack of contrast, that is common during lunar and terrestrial observation to produce natural and neutral colors.

A: No, the Kolari Vision Magnetic Clip-In Filter for RED KOMODO (Light Pollution) are designed for super35mm only and are not compatible with the Vista vision sensor of the V-Raptor.

A: No, it will not be compatible for use with translucent mirror reflex cameras such as the Sony Alpha a58 DSLT camera. According to Kase Filters, the Kase Light Pollution Clip-In Filter f/ SONY ALPHA is compatible for use with the Sony Alpha A9 II, A9, A7R IV, A7R III, A7R II, A7R, A7S II, A7S, A7 III, A7 II, and the A7 Mirrorless Digital Cameras. (They also state while they are not currently aware of any lens restrictions, they cannot guarantee all lenses will be compatible).

Q: 9. Gonna be asking the same question here. Can I attach this magnetic light pollution filter to the Freewell magnetic VND system?

A: While the Ice 82mm Magnetic Light Pollution Filter & Magnetic Adapter and the Freewell Magnetic Base Ring for VND Filters (82mm) are both magnetic filters, the Ice filters have not been tested on the Freewell magnetic base. Also, the Freewell filters and magnetic base are special order items not kept in our inventory, nor are on display in our NYC Superstore. We cannot test these items for compatibility. There is a possibility the items may be used with one another, but we have no confirmation on this.

Q: 10. The spec mention setting your WB to Daylight. Did you do that? I shoot in RAW so I’m not sure why a WB setting is necessary.

A: Although one might shoot a RAW file, it is best to make as many adjustments in-camera so that the post production is minimal, hence the recommendation for setting the white balance to daylight.
