Achieve clear, intelligible speech reproduction with the white Audio-Technica U851RWb, a cardioid condenser boundary microphone optimized for surface-mount applications in conference rooms, houses of worship, recording studios, live event venues, and sports arenas. The high-output condenser element yields a wide frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, which can be modified via the switchable 80 Hz low-cut filter—ideal for mitigating rumble and low-frequency buildup.

The cardioid polar pattern delivers directional pickup and enhanced off-axis rejection, allowing reduced ambience and high gain before feedback. Thanks to the UniGuard RFI-shielding technology, the U851RWb impedes radio frequency interference from sources such as wireless devices, fluorescent lights, air conditioners, and more. It can be powered by 11 to 52 VDC phantom power, so no batteries or external power supplies are required. The rotatable balanced TB3M output connects to the included 25' TA3F to XLR microphone cable, ensuring easy hookup to your mixer, preamplifier, or audio interface.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does it come with a cable? the in the the box tab does not show it coming with one.

A: Yes it comes with an xlr cable built into mike. I believe its 20-25 long. I used these mikes for community play performances.

Q: 2. Does this need a power module or phantom power? Tried hooking an older but similar AT boundary mic to a TASCAM DR-40 using the COXMMXF25 cable and would not work with or without phantom power on. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

A: Yes it will need phantom power. The spec. sheet that came with the mic should tell you the voltage. If your mixer can't do phantom power there are products out there that will hook up to the mic then into the mixer that will do the job. Good luck.

Q: 3. is connector swivel ?

A: The connector is a 3 pin XLR and it does not swivel.

Q: 4. Is anyone using 2 of these simultaneously with the tascam dr-40 and if so, does the phantom power from the tascam do ok? How long can you record with a new set of batteries? Thanks

A: I do not own a Tascam dr-40, but we used 2 of these with phantom power from a Canon XA-10 and they worked well. It may be a decent alternative to a bunch of lav mics and a mixing board.

Q: 5. is there an xlr m cable included?

A: The Audio-Technica UA851R includes a 25 foot XLR output cable with with TA3F and XLRM-type connectors for connection from the mic to your recording/output device.

Q: 6. Does it need require phantom power?

A: Yes. The Audio-Technica AT4053b Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone BH #AUAT4053B requires phantom power. Operating Voltage: 48 V Operating Current Consumption 4.8 mA

Q: 7. Can i use this with an android phone

A: The ATR4697 features a mono 1/8 jack designed for connection to a portable audio recorder. Although the connector is the same size, will not be recognized by a smartphone or tablet.

Q: 8. Can you recommend a preamp/power supply for this mic? I don't need a mixer as I plan to feed the mic into an ATEM mini with an adapter

A: You can use the Rolls MP13 Mini-Mic Preamp (B&H # ROMP13) to power the Audio-Technica U851Rb Cardioid Condenser Boundary Microphone, then use an XLR female to 3.5mm TRS male cable like the Kopul XRSM 3-Pin XLR Female to 3.5mm RA Stereo Mini-Plug Cable - 3' (B&H # KOXRSM03B) to connect the output from the MP13 to the 3.5mm TRS input on the Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini HDMI Switcher.

Q: 9. Does this mic come in a wireless version?

A: This mic is not available in a wireless version.

Q: 10. I have a Tascam DR-701R that provide phantom power, so still I need piut the Battery in the AT831B?

A: It is battery or phantom. So you can run it with the phantom power on your DR-701, or if you would like to save some battery power on your DR-701, you can run the AT831B on battery power.

[Mono] This mic turned out to be a good purchase. I use these mics for Video Teleconferencing and there is no loss of sound even though the mic is small with a very small profile.

[Low Cut/HPF] We added these microphones to the Zoom H4n Pro 4 Channel Handy Recorder and had great results when recording a meeting. Clear audio for transcribing.

[Low Cut/HPF] Used three of these for a town meeting in a room with terrible acoustics. They worked great. One of the mics sounded a little bit metalic but I think that had to do with the soundboard we were using. In a small conference room, one mic covers the entire room. The only thing I wish they had was a mute toggle button but for the price they are very good for speech applications.

[Solid-State] I am using this microphone for small seminar that my wife and her friend are presenting. They have just completed second seminar last week (Aug 25th, 2012) and recorded with this microphone. They were standing at left and right of presentation screen. Great thing about are 1. Only one microphone does a good job, 2. Audience did not notice because the boundary microphone was hard to be noticed. This is good for interview, small group seminar and talk show.

[Low Cut/HPF] These boundary mic performed superbly at a recent meeting with a 10-person panel table. Problems inherent with lavaliere and traditional table mic were eliminated. Highly recommend these mics.
