Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How many stops should I add when using this filter?

A: This Tiffen 43mm Deep Yellow #15 Filter would require the addition of 1.3 stops.

Q: 2. Is it made of glass ?. Can we adjust the intensity of the filter ? TIA

A: Yes and Yes. D.

Q: 3. I bought this for my new sigma art lens 18-35 and it doesn’t seem to fit. Is there a trick to it?

A: The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 Art lens does have a 72mm filter thread, so this filter should fit as long as it's not cross-threaded.

Q: 4. I have a Nikon D3400 with a 70-300mm lens , will this fit?

A: We would need more information about the 70-300mm zoom lens on your camera. If the lens is a Nikkor lens, please note Nikon made several versions of the 70-300mm zoom lens resulting in some lenses having different filter sizes from one another.Nikon usually indicates the filter size on the barrel of the lens or on the front ring of the lens (where the lens cap would attach to).You can ask for the correct size Tiffen Circular Polarizer once you know the filter size of your particular lens.

Q: 5. From the picture shown it is hard to make out if this is multi coated ... a) Is this multi-coated?b) Is a multi coated circular polarizer necessary if stacked on a multicoated UV filter?

A: a) No, it is not a multi-coated filter. Tiffen does make a Digital HT line that is multi-coated.b) Yes and no. Multi-coated filters benefit from water repellency, scratch resistance, and reduction of solar flair. If the non-multi coated filter is on top of a multi-coated filter, then the top lens will be be susceptible to water smear and scratches, but the stack-up will benefit from solar flair reduction. I would install the UV multi-coated filter over the top of the circular polarizing filter.I hope this helped. I also encourage you to continue your research to ensure best possible information.

Q: 6. I notice this filter is not multi coated. I would be using this on the water. Does multi coating make a difference?

A: The multi-coatings on filters allow the filter to reduce glare or flare that would happen internally in the camera mainly between the filter and the sensor. Glare on the water would be caused by unpolarized light outside of the camera from the sun. As such, while I do recommend multi-coated filters, for shoots on water, glass, or foliage, a standard polarized filter would still work for your needs.

Q: 7. Will this work on a Sigma 100-400?

A: The Tiffen 67mm Circular Polarizing Filter is compatible with the Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens.

Q: 8. I bought this polorizer a few months ago. However, I don't see much difference. Is is possible that I am not using it correctly?

A: The circular polarizer should be able to remove reflections and glare from non-reflective items regardless of the working conditions. The circular polarizer filter will not remove glare/reflections from metal or metallic items. If you are referring to darkening the blue color in the sky, is is most important to note that you get the most color deepening or contrast when the sun is set perpendicular (at a 90° angle) to the direction your lens is facing. This means that you should practically never use a polarizer facing directly toward the sun (the sun aimed at one of your shoulders is better). Also note that polarization may not be even across the entire frame, especially when you are using wide angle lenses. When using a wide angle lens, do note that you may view bands of polarization with strong blue sections and then lighter shades of blue in the sky. Another reason to take off the filter for shots that include the sun is that the extra glass can result in more flaring, so the polarizer may not be recommended for sunrise/sunset images.

Q: 9. Will this fit a Nikon 30-110mm lens for a J1?

A: This filter will fit any lens with a 40.5 mm filter thread. Please refer to the specifications for your lens.

Q: 10. Is this 4x4 #12 filter 2mm thick so it will fit in a Lee or similar type holder?

A: Tiffen 4x4 filters are made of glass instead of resin like Lee filters and are 4mm thick instead of 2mm thick. Tiffen makes a PRO100 filter holder for these filters:a href= https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1276984-REG/tiffen_pro100hdr77_pro100_holder_with_77.html target= _blank https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1276984-REG/tiffen_pro100hdr77_pro100_holder_with_77.html/a

[62 mm] To increase contrast in land/skyscape photos. Tiffen offers good quality at reasonable prices. I've been using they're filters for years.

[62 mm] Bought this for my daughter for her B&W photography college couarse. It gives amazing, balanced contrast without being too stark. Fits right between the lighter K2 yellow and the more pronounced contrast of the orange filters. Tiffen glass and construction seems to be of good quality. Priced lower than other brands. Put this on your film SLR lens instead of the protective UV glass and leave it there.
