Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this fit using two screws to the foot of the AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR lens? I estimate the two threaded holes in the lens foot to be on 30mm centers.

A: The Really Right Stuff 2.9" Multi-Purpose Rail (1/4"-20) will fit the AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR lens using both screws.

Q: 2. Would I attach this to the foot of a 200-500 to make it arca Swiss compatible?

A: The rail is Arca Swiss compatible. If it will attach, it should work. Mine is used for Leica M2 & 3 bodies for a tripod and it works beautifully - the quality is exceptionally high.

Q: 3. Is there a QD socket on the rail?

A: No theReally Right Stuff 4.4" Multi-Purpose Rail (1/4"-20) BH #REMPR113RAIL • MFR #MPR-113 RAIL does not have a QD socket.

Q: 4. I know it's early, but does anyone think this will work with the RS3?

A: We can only confirm that the Really Right Stuff DJI Ronin S2 CL Rail is compatible with the DJI RS 2, RSC 2, Ronin S.

Q: 5. I have a Burke & James 8x10 view camera built between 1900 and 1920. The bottom of the camera has two holes 4.4" apart that take 1/4 " screws. Does this device allow one to screw two screws into the base of my camera, essentially adapting my camera to fit a sturdy tripod with a mount for only one screw (as like any modern day tripods out there)? Thanks!

A: Really Right Stuff 4.4" Multi-Purpose Rail is 4.4 inches long, but the screws are not that far apart from each other. I would recommend getting a longer plate like this one. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1301200-REG/really_right_stuff_mpr_1_rail_multi_purpose_rail_6_152mm_with.html

Q: 6. I'm looking to get one for my Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS II. What length and thread size should I get?

A: Really Right Stuff 6" Multi-Purpose Rail (1/4"-20)

Q: 7. Is this plate compatible with the Manfrotto 504PLONG? I have a Manfrotto MVH502AH video head and would like to be sure I can use it on that head. Thank you

A: Yes and no. the RS2 (and by extension this Really Right stuff substitute) is compatible with with Manfrotto tripod heads but it is more difficult to use than normal Manfrotto plates. It mounts from front to back instead of back to front. The fact that it mounts in the opposite direction makes it awkward to get the quick release plate on and off your tripod. the safety mechanism can get caught leaving your camera stuck on the tripod and requiring force to remove it. Yes the plate will mount on your tripod but it will be more difficult to get it on and off your tripod than a normal manfrotto quick release plate.

Q: 8. Is this rail recommended for the collar on the Leica R70-180 to fit on RRS L bracket?

A: This plate is recommend for use on the tripod collar of the Leica R 70-180mm lens, which is completely separate from the use of an L-bracket on the camera.

Q: 9. Will this work with the QD strap swivel--is there a qd socket?

A: There is no QD socket on the Really Right Stuff 4.4" Multi-Purpose Rail (1/4"-20).

Q: 10. Is any one using the 2.9 version of this as a lens foot plate on a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR Lens? If so, do you recommend it?

A: For that lens I have been using for years the RRS replacement foot which is great. I have used this style of plate for other lenses which do not have a specific Foot replacement. It works but is not as nice as if it was a foot replacement.

[T6061 Aluminium] In my opinion anything from RRS is really the best. In this case the thickness is about 1/8 greater than some of the competitions. Greater thickness, greater stiffness, less movement. I'd only buy RRS but the price dictates only when necessary.

[T6061 Aluminium] I am using this type of rail on the Nikon 600mm f6.3 and the Nikon 800mm f6.3. it works very well and balances on the 800mm. I tried a z9, z8 and z7ii with both lenses. The 600mm f6.3 also balances well. I have a RRS side mount gimbal and when the camera is rotated into portrait orientation the back of the rail is near the vertical hand grip. as can be seen in the image with my hand. It is necessary to have a rail that can be mounted far enough back to balance the heavier z9 with this light lens. The 600 f6.3 balances so well with the two lighter cameras that it makes me feel Nikon had the z8 in mind when they designed this lens. I love the captive screws that won't fall out when removing the rail. I love that there are two screws stabilizing the lens for safety and to prevent rotation between the foot plate and the rail. Also, I love the two small screws that can be attached to the rail to prevent the lens from sliding out if the jaws of the clamp are loosened. Most of the time I plan to hand hold the 600mm lens. Please note that the RRS clamp lever is on top, which gives extra room when using a z9. I think the posterior placement of the gimbal necessary to balance the 600mm with the heavier z9 would occur with any rail.

[1.225 lb] Allows large zoom lenses to be used in production of aligned multi-image panoramas from long distances. I can now use my 500mm lens to get better views (fill the frame shots) from across rivers and/or canyons without the need for large crops post stitching.
Acts as a nodal rail.

[T6061 Aluminium] Really Right Stuff really makes great products. If only you can afford them. Bought this to help stabilize a long lens. Works well as expected.
