Kodak VISION3 500T 5219 35mm 1000' Rollis a high-speed, tungsten-balanced movie film characterized by a fine grain structure, broad dynamic range, and the flexible nominal sensitivity of a 500-speed index. It has a wide exposure latitude with exceptional highlight control for working in a variety of lighting conditions, ranging from high-contrast outdoor lighting to mixed interior light situations. Advanced Dye Layering Technology (DLT) is also used to reduce the appearance of grain in the shadows for cleaner detailing and clarity. As part of the VISION3 series of movie films, this stock has high archival stability and is well suited to digital post-production processes.

This item is one 1000' roll of 35mm color negative movie film for process in ECN-2 chemistry. It is perforated on both edges (BH-1866) and wound on a Type U core for use in-camera, for making optical prints, or for bidirectional printing.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this film work for Elmo Super 8 Sound 350SL Macro?

A: The ELMO 350SL can shoot both silent or sound film (sound film was discontinued by 1999 but is often still available via eBay and private vendors). The camera's light meter cannot index this film to the ISO 500 but, even so, in low light conditions where the meter will open the aperture fully, the extra exposure power this film offers, can still yield decent images. Only when pointed at a bright light source will there be significant exposure error. So, for dim light and night time use only on this camera, and I recommend running a test first before committing it to a given project. You only have to shoot a few feet of it, and then use the rest of the film up in another camera it works well in. If you don't have another camera, then you might want to use manual exposure mode via the EE Lock and using a handheld light meter set for ISO 500 etc.

[Type U Core] I had written a review of this film based on an experience I had with it about 5 years ago, using both negative and reversal films on the same project. I recently shot another project with both the 500t and Kodak ektachrome and was extremely pleased to find that the 500t actually looked better than the ektachrome! It handled low-light beautifully, the grain was nice, and the contrast was far better than that of the Ektachrome. The Ektachrome was too contrasty, making some images almost useless. The 500t footage was just beautiful and still retained the distinct character of Super 8 film, without the excessive worry you'd have with a low ASA film or with reversal. I highly recommend!!!!

[Acetate] This is a nice film stock but does have significant grain structure. The image remains sharp. Captures that look of legacy imagery from the good ole days.

[Acetate] An absolutely stunning color film at a very reasonable cost per roll. Tons of latitude and very accurate colors when processed ECN-2.

Despite what a lot of folks on the internet suggest, I was unable to get satisfactory results when cross processing in C-41 chemistry. The images were just far too blue shifted, even when shooting with the correct 85b filter under daylight.

Instead I've taken to mixing ECN-2 developer following the Kodak datasheet, which I use in conjunction with my existing Kodak flexicolor C-41 bleach and fixer. This gets me color accurate images and so far doesn't appear to require the specified sulfuric acid stop bath that Kodak specifies.
