The Sony UWP-D26 Wireless Microphone System UC14 470-542 MHzis a dependable camera-mount wireless combo microphone system that delivers uncompromising audio quality, while still being easy to use and fast to set up with no menu diving. It is made with simplicity in mind for DIY cameramen, videographers, vloggers, and journalists working in the field without a crew. The system is packed with professional features including NFC Sync and Auto-Gain functions, which handle time-consuming frequency setup and mic-level adjustments for you, so you're ready to shoot within seconds.

Rugged and lightweight, the UWP-D26 includes a bodypack transmitter with an ECM-V1BMP omnidirectional lavalier mic. Also included is a plug-on transmitter, which can be attached to a handheld microphone of your choice for man-on-the-street interviews, or to a shotgun mic for wireless booming (both types of mics are available separately). The plug-on provides 48V phantom power, giving you the option to use a condenser microphone.

The low-profile camera-mount receiver is designed for enhanced mobility with compact camcorders and smaller DSLR/mirrorless cameras. It offers digital signal processing for pristine audio and analog UHF transmission with true-diversity reception for reliability-even under difficult shooting conditions.

Sony shooters can take advantage of the SMAD-P5 digital MI Shoe adapter (available separately), which provides a direct, clean digital audio connection to select cameras equipped with a digital Multi Interface Shoe. With the UWP-D26 you can focus on the other critical elements competing for your attention during a shoot, and confidently record crisp, clear speech or dialog for projects ranging from documentaries to wedding videos, YouTube content, corporate spots, and hands-free interviews.

The UWP-D26 is backward-compatible with Sony WL-800 and UWP Series systems.

Note: While this system includes two transmitters, only one can be used at a time.

NFC Automatic Channel-Setting Mode
Press and hold the NFC/Sync button, and the receiver scans for the cleanest RF channel. Simply hold the transmitter next to the receiver; it automatically syncs up and you’re good to go!

Unlike purely digital systems, the UWP-D26 allows you to send a single mic to multiple cameras for broadcast applications. Fast NFC communication makes setup for multiple receivers a breeze.

Auto-Gain Mode to Prevent Mic Distortion
Auto-Gain mode saves you the time and aggravation of setting and managing the input level on the transmitter. It uses a limiter to help prevent distortion, great when the loudness of the presenter’s voice is unknown.

The +15 dB Gain Volume-Boost mode boosts the mic gain by 15 dB to compensate for situations when the mic is not close enough to the presenter’s mouth and the audio level is insufficient.

Manual input-level setting is also available.

High-Visibility OLED Display for Indoor/Outdoor Use
Receiver and both transmitters feature an easy-to-read OLED display. The quick response of the display lets you see the operating conditions clearly and accurately in real time, even in bright sunlight.

Channel Memory Function
The channel memory function lets you quickly switch between the groom’s lav mic and the wedding guest’s interview mic with the press of a button. It also allows for a fast change between mics in corporate presentations or quickly swapping to a back-up mic.

DSP Filter Removes Occupancy Sensors Artifacts
Two levels of DSP filtering help remove the artifacts caused by occupancy sensors used in modern “green” buildings to turn off lights when people leave a room.

To achieve stable audio, the UWP-D receiver employs true-diversity technology with two antennas and two independent receiver sections within the unit. Both RF signals are compared and the stronger signal is automatically selected for output—reducing dropouts to a minimum.

The angle of the two antennas can also be adjusted, which helps to further prevent signal dropouts.

The system offers a 72 MHz bandwidth with 2772 UHF frequencies.

Unlike traditional analog wireless systems, The UWP-D supplements its proven analog UHF transmission technology with a proprietary digital audio processing. Transient sounds and consonants are reproduced with greater accuracy, resulting in clear, natural sound that’s intelligible and nuanced.

The ECM-V1BMP lavalier mic is optimized for capturing clear and intelligible speech. This omnidirectional mic picks up sound from every direction, allowing for a variety of placement options and freedom of movement.

The UWP-D26 features a robust, all-metal construction well suited for tough operating conditions.

The compact bodypack transmitter is lightweight and comfortable for the talent to wear. A locking, 3.5mm BMP-type microphone input connector ensures that your lav doesn’t detach at a critical moment.

The equally lightweight plug-on transmitter attaches to any dynamic or condenser microphone equipped with an XLR connector.

Using the included shoemount adapter, the receiver easily mounts on your camera, while adding minimal weight to your rig. Cables are included to connect to cameras equipped with either a 3.5mm or an XLR audio input.

The SMAD-P5 digital MI Shoe adapter allows you to integrate the receiver with XDCAM camcorders and select Sony cameras equipped with a digital Multi Interface Shoe.

  • This setup provides a direct digital connection, skipping the receiver’s D/A and camera’s A/D converters for superior audio quality and low noise.
  • Audio information such as RF level meter, audio-mute status, and low-battery alert for the transmitters is displayed on the camera's viewfinder.
  • This cable-free configuration allows for fast setup in the field.
  • Compatible models include the a7R IV mirrorless camera, the PXW-Z280 and PXW-Z190 XDCAM camcorders, and more.

Two AA batteries (alkaline or NiMH rechargeable type) power the bodypack transmitter for up to 8 hours, the plug-on transmitter for up to 6 hours, and the receiver for up to 6 hours.

A battery count-up timer allows for accurate reading of battery running time to minute accuracy.

Both transmitters and the receiver can also be powered through their USB ports, allowing them to run for numerous hours on a USB power pack or indefinitely, if you have access to AC.

With the SMAD-P5 Digital MI Shoe adapter, the receiver can get power directly from Sony cameras equipped with an MI Shoe.

Cartridge-type battery cases allow for quick battery replacement on set.

If your camera doesn’t have a headphone jack, Phone mode lets you monitor your sound via the receiver’s headphone output while recording.

When the receiver is used as a personal monitoring device by director or crew on set, Monitor mode lets you adjust the headphone volume on the fly with the +/- buttons.

  • The RF output level on the bodypack transmitter has two settings: the 5mW option allows you to conserve battery life, while the 30mW setting gives you more power to overcome interference, great in busy RF environments.
  • On the plug-on, the RF output level can be switched between 5 and 40mW.
  • Switchable Mic/Line input level so you can set the correct gain level for your sound source.
  • Low-cut filter reduces noise caused by wind or machinery—Off / Low (100 Hz) / Mid (150 Hz) / High (200 Hz).
  • The receiver provides a variable output level control of ±12 dB, useful when working with cameras without manual input level control.
  • Simple menus make navigation easy. Advanced menus for in-depth control are also available.
  • The variable mute buttons on the transmitters can be programmed for latched or momentary muting. It can also be used as a momentary talk button.
  • You can operate up to 16 mics in one location.

The UWP-D transmitter can be used with a UWP Series or WL-800 Series receiver. A UWP Series or WL-800 Series transmitter can be used with a UWP-D receiver.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there a cable/adapter to use a sanken cos-11BP mic with this system?

A: The Sanken COS-11D-BP Lavalier Microphone has a standard XLR male connector and requires 48V phantom power to function, so it is not compatible for connection to a wireless transmitter with a simple cable adapter. In order to connect the COS-11D-BP to a Sony UTX-B40 Wireless Bodypack Transmitter for the UWP-D27 2-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Lavalier Microphone System, you will need to connect the mic a phantom power supply first to provide sufficient voltage to the microphone, and then you can use an XLR female to locking 3.5mm TRS Sony cable to connect the output from the phantom power supply to the input on the transmitter. As an option, you can use the Xvive Audio P1 Portable Phantom Power Supply with Rechargeable Battery (B&H # XVP1) together with the Sony EC-1.5BX 3.5mm Locking Mini-Plug to Female XLR Cable - 4.9' (B&H # SOEC1.5BX). The Xvive P1 is lightweight and has a built-in rechargeable battery, as well as a belt clip.

Q: 2. Is there a limitation on where in the country I can use this wireless set?

A: If referring to use within the United States, the Sony UWP-D26 Camera-Mount Wireless Combo Microphone System (UC25: 536 to 608 MHz) is able to be used throughout. The only limitations may come when attempting to use within privately owned locations, such as a sports venue with specific wireless permissions and coordination.

Q: 3. I was advised this could be synced with the zoom recorders like h6. How would that work?

A: This will work woththe Zoom without a problem. Simply plug the 3.5mm to XLR cable into the output of the receiver and the input of the Zoom recorder.

Q: 4. Would this receiver work with a Sennhesier SK500 transmitter in thr Aw+ band (470-558Mhz)?

A: No it would not work with Sennheiser transmitters. It can be used to capture audio when paired with the SONY UTX-B03HR beltpack transmitter & microphone (sold separately)

Q: 5. will the URx P40 work with a UTX-P03 Transmitter?

A: Yes, the Sony URX-P40 Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver from the Sony UWP-D26 Camera-Mount Wireless Combo Microphone System is compatible for use with Sony UTX-P03 Plug-On Transmitters operating on the same frequency range.

Q: 6. Will it work with the Sony PXW-FS5M2 ?

A: Yes it will.

Q: 7. Can you use any XLR microphone - AKG, Sennheiser, Rode, Shure - with the plug-in transmitter, or does it have to be a Sony mic?

A: The Sony UTX-P40 Wireless Plug-On Transmitter included with the Sony UWP-D26 Camera-Mount Wireless Combo Microphone System can be used with just about any XLR microphone, whether it is a dynamic or condenser style mic, and regardless of the brand.

Q: 8. After connecting this to the Sony A7S III and selecting 24-bit two channel mode in camera I recorded several clips. However, after importing the clips into FCPX on my 2019 MacBook Pro, I realized that none of the clips had audio. Even in Sony’s own Catalyst Browse software, no audio can be played back, but in this instance white noise is all that is heard. Audio plays back fine in camera; Switch to 16-bit and audio can play back as normal in all software. So it seems 24-bit audio is not supported. Are there plans to address this? Btw... Sony makes no mention of 24-bit audio in the A7S III manual, even though the option appears in the cameras menu.

A: Based on the manual, this camera has the ability to record in 24 bit only if using accessories that support 24 bit audio through the Multi-Interface shoe. If connecting the receiver of this system to the camera via the 3.5mm jack, then the camera can only record in 16 bit audio. Please note that while there is an available MI Shoe adapter for the URX-P40 receiver in this wireless system, the A7SIII is not specified as supporting it for use.

Q: 9. True diversity only in single channel mode - so I can't have 2 mics in true diversity?

A: The Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver does not utilize true diversity when operating in dual-channel mode.

Q: 10. What alternatives do i have to power this unit when in a sound bag?

A: The Sony URX-S03D UWP-D Dual-Channel Slot-In Wireless Receiver requires 7V DC 200mA from a camcorder or wireless power adapter such as the Sony DWA-F01D Digital Wireless Adapter (B&H # SODWAF01D). For mixer-bag use with battery systems, centralized management for the DWA-F01D can be achieved using the Hirose 4-pin or BP jack. For AC powering, you can use an InfoLITHIUM battery charger as an AC adapter or use a conventional AC adapter with the BP jack.

[Camera-Mount] For capturing audio on the Fx6, or any Sony camera that has the multi-interface shoe, this is a no brainer.

Audio is clean, easy to edit and makes my life so much easier. The xlr plug in devices also works really well as a wireless boom mic or a handheld mic as well.

To connect the device to the multi-interface shoe, make sure you also get the SMADP5 adapter which isn't included

[True Diversity] Bought these to pair to my Sony URX-PO3D dual receiver. They synced up immediately. I added the Countryman EMW Lavs w/ Sony connectors and the sound is fantastic. The body pack is smaller than any other I've had before, but it is very solid. I put it on and walked outside the building and across the parking lot - solid signal. This will be my go-to audio setup for a long time!

[Metal] Im an owner of a few older UWP-D models but this has a different feel when you look at it.
Its a little bit smaller than the older, the antenna is a little bit more protected and also, the unit is 24g lighter than the older one.
It has a few upgrades like auto-gain, + 15 dB sensibility boost the screen turn off by it self using less battery than the older.
Im really happy with it and now Im going to upgrade my older models for this one.

[470 to 542 MHz ] I use this mic pack for video interviews as an upgrade from Sony's URX-P03. Even though I don't even shoot on a Sony camera, this mic pack is easy to integrate and carries excellent, natural sound quality. This mic doesn't require a lot of post-production help, and I'm happy to include it with my gear.

[Analog UHF ] I purchased a Sony kit with a dual-channel receiver and two belt packs. To this I added a wireless handheld microphone and most recently the UTX-P40 Plug-on transmitter. This system has worked flawlessly, even in noisy environments like downtown Chicago. Configuration of the components is confusing, but nearly identical in each device. If you have NFC, configuration of the transmitters is automated. Unfortunately my receiver does not have NFC.
