The numbered scale on the vertical rail helps you repeat setups, so you don't have to figure out the balance point of a certain lens and camera combo every time you use it.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with a Peak Design "Standard Plate"?

A: The Magnus GH-M1 Gimbal Head is compatible with Arca-type plates, L-brackets, and rails. So the answer is yes, a Peak Design standard plate will fit since it is an Arca type plate.

Q: 2. Can the Arca mounting plate be replaced with a Manfroto style?

A: Unfortunately, the Arca Type Clamp on the GH-M1 cannot be swapped for one that accept Manfrotto plates nor is there an adapter.

Q: 3. Will this work to mount a mid size camcorder like a Panasonic UX 90 onto a Monopod? Also does.it come with a quick release plate or can I use my manfrotto plates?

A: You can certainly attach your camcorder but it might be awkward using a gimbal with a monopod. It does come with an Arca style quick release plate and is not compatible with Manfrotto plates.

Q: 4. I purchased this product and I put my sigma 150-600mm and the 2x teleconveter and pointed to the moon, so it was a step angle. And all the pictures came blur for movement slowly going down. when you said to balance the camera and the lens? How can I make sure they are balanced? And can I purchase a bigger nob to tight better when in angle?

A: A ballhead or pan and tilt head would be better if you don't want to move the camera while shooting; a gimbal head is meant for making photographs of moving subjects, like birds in flight, or racing cars, using a very long telephoto lens. To lock the camera securely at an angle, a different type of tripod head would be a better choice.

Q: 5. Is this gimbal compatible with the Magnus REX VT-4000 pro, two 2 video tripod?

A: This head is not compatible with the Magnus REX VT-4000PRO.

Q: 6. I would like an additional quick release plate for this head. What is recommended?

A: I would recommend either the Desmond DPC-140 Long Lens Quick Release Plate (140mm), B&H # DEDPC140, or the Oben QR-53 Long Lens Quick Release Plate (5.3"), B&H # OBQR53, for use with the Magnus GH-M1 Gimbal Head.

Q: 7. IS this head compatible with the oben 1461 tripod?

A: Yes, it will fit the Oben 1461.

Q: 8. Can you attach Wimberley F-9 Flash Bracket for Wimberley Head Version II to the side of this style Gimbal head?

A: Yes you can attach the Wimberley F-9 Flash Bracket to the GH-M1 head.

Q: 9. Is this unit good to hold Nikon D850 + Tamron 150-600mm lens?

A: Yes, this can handle those. Together those are still below the load capacity of 30 lbs.

Q: 10. What size screw one the tripod does this tripod head screw into? 3/8 or 1/4?

A: Like most the Magnus GH-M1 Gimbal Head has a 3/8 inch female thread that attaches to the tripod base.

[Yes] I haven't found any negatives so far. It works smoothly and has made taking photos of birds so much easier, with no more neck strain. Birding has not been my niche but that could change now. It is a game-changer for me.

[Gimbal Head] The Mangus GH-M1Gimbal Head proved to be a justifiable and worthy purchase. I paired it with my Leica 400mm f/6.8 Telyt-R and a Leica SL (Typ601) camera. I had basically neglected this telephoto lens until I decided to order this GH-M1 Gimbal Head while it was on sale. Although the head comes with a nice Arca-type quick-release plate, I had already attached a Sunwayfoto DP-60R quick-release plate to the lens mount as it was threaded for both 3/8-16 and 1/4-20 mounting screws. Using both screws on the QR plate prevents the lens from rotating, and the GH-M1's clamp worked perfectly with it. I simply removed the ball head from my Bogen Manfrotto 3221 tripod, replaced it with the Magnus Gimbal Head and found it suited the purpose remarkably well. I neither found any issues controlling the fluid rotation of the axis of the lens in any direction nor with the adjustability of the friction screws. I even added my Leica 2X APO Extender-R to the lens and was surprisingly able to stay focused on-target. The Mangus GH-M1 Gimbal Head appears to be a functional and well-constructed product at a very reasonable price point.

[1x 1/4"-20 Male] I'm not a professional and didn't want to spend a lot of money as a casual landscape photographer but needed a more balanced alternative for my new Sigma 150-600mm lens. The reviews that I read were spot on. The Magnus GH-M1 Gimbal seems very well built and sturdy. For my purposes, it works great. It easily screws onto my Manfrotto tripod and is very easy to adjust. Highly recommend.

[Gimbal Head] My gimbal head operates very smoothly on both axis and the individual adjustment knobs do what they're supposed to do. With the knobs loosened, movements of both parts is smooth and easy. With the knobs tightened, both are held securely in place. At the low price, I expected some imperfections/limitations/shortcomings, but found none. Yes... there is a tiny compass inset into an inappropriate position (but it's nonfunctional so it's moot) and a bubble level built into the end of a knob where it can never be used, but who cares? The gimbal works beautifully and is surprisingly inexpensive.

[Gimbal Head] Although the quality is below average, there's nothing to complain about at the price. It's a budget option for occasional bird watching.

[1x 1/4"-20 Male] His Gimbal head is perfect for my Sigma 150-600 mm telepoto lens. It is sturdy enough to allow me to reduce the shutter speed at times. Recommended to a friend and he also purchased one.

[Gimbal Head] not as smooth as more expensive units, however, in my case does what I expect of it.
