Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is Universal 100-240VAC Adapter Included?

A: Yes, the power supply is included and rated for 100v - 240v.

Q: 2. how do lights reflect charge status/end charge. ie, red = charging/green = charge complete?

A: When the battery is charging the light blinks orange. When charging is complete the light stops blinking, turns to a solid orange.

Q: 3. Does this new model do a better job of refreshing older batteries than the tried and true MH-C9000?

A: Yes, a considerably better unit.

Q: 4. What does it mean when instead of solid orange when battery is charged, I get a rapidly flashing light? Battery is not fully charged.

A: Most likely the battery won't fully charge due to age/exhaustion, hence the blinking light.

Q: 5. So as of September of 2023, does this come with the ac prong adapter, line cord, or both?

A: The Nikon MH-25a Battery Charger only includes the AC plug adapter.

Q: 6. Are Eneloop rechargeable batteries compatible with this device? Presently, only Powerex and Watson batteries are listed as compatible.

A: Yes, you may use the Powerex MH-C980 Turbo Charger-Analyzer to recharge Eneloop AA or AAA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries.

Q: 7. Are Eneloop batteries compatible with this product?

A: To our knowledge, Panasonic Eneloop batteries have not been tested with this charger. That being said, the results may vary.

Q: 8. Can you program the low-voltage threshold for the battery test? In other words, let's say my device won't work if the battery goes below 1.2V. Can I program this tester to only test capacity from fully charged down to 1.2V?

A: The Powerex C9000Pro Professional Charger-Analyzer will let you know the battery voltage.

Q: 9. Should the fan stay on during conditioning?

A: Yes, anytime it cools off the device while its working helps with its functioning.

Q: 10. Powerex MH-C980: When charging, is the display "always on", or can it be turned off? I am trying to reduce "light pollution" in the office.

A: By pressing both buttons at the same time, you can toggle this to be always on and off.

[1] There have been some people who complained about the noise coming from the fan. However, I personally do not think that the fan noise is that big of a problem.

If you find the fan noise to be a problem, I suggest that you consider looking for a different charger.

Personally, I like the fact that my batteries do not get hot when I charge them, and that I can charge one battery at a time with this charger.

I usually do not write reviews because I have a reading disability and I use text-to-speech software to convert my speech into text. I try to use Grammarly to identify and correct any grammar and spelling mistakes, but if I miss any, I apologize.

[1] This battery charger is great. It charge up to 8 batteries. It tells you how much charge was needed for each battery. It has a mode that conditions batteries. When done it tells the amount of charge needed to recharge each battery from the discharged state. If this is way less than the rated capacity of the battery, it has probably lost charging capacity. If it is way more, the battery may be self-discharging. I've seen both cases.

[AC Input] This is by far the best battery charger I've ever owned. But it has a few issues.

First the good things. It charges 8 AA or AAA cells. In normal mode it takes 2 to 3 hours, but you can select turbo mode, and it charges in 1 hour. (But the documentation warns that turbo mode might shorten battery life.) It also has mode that evaluates and conditions batteries. It charges, discharges, and recharges the batteries. This takes the better part of day, but it really works, and it reports the mAh capacity. I had some old batteries that my old charger would claim to charge much faster that the others, but the they ran down much faster, too. Two conditioning cycles with this charger and they were working as expected. It runs on both 120 and 240 VAC.

Now for the nit picks. The interface is weird and you had better keep the instructions right beside the charger. For example to enter the conditioning mode with multiple batteries you have to insert one battery, then within 5 seconds press the CONDITION button, then insert the remaining batteries. On the display there are numbers 1 to 8 for the battery slots. There is a triagle that appears below the number. They can blink if various combinations. How does one interpret that? Apparently if the number but not the triangle is blinking the battery is charging, if both are blinking it indicates a battery fault. But it take careful reading of the manual to figure this out. Other strange things are that you are supposed to plug the AC adapter into the charger first, then plug the AC adapter into the AC power. Why should that matter? You are advised to insert the batteries in left-to-right order. There is a backlight and you can have it on or off. But to do that you must press the CONDITION and TURBO buttons at the same time. But if you remove power, it forgets the setting. The unit contains a fan. It is not very noisy, but you will definitely notice it in a quite room.

[AC Input] This is the ultimate in battery chargers! It charged my already ok batteries in about 2 hours and I have numerous eneloops that are performing well below their stated rating. I used the conditioning function on the first batch of these which showed an initial capacity of around 200 mA and after about 12 hours of conditioning they were at 2000 mA!! As a photographer being able to charge 8 batteries simultaneously is fantastic.Well done Powerex and B & H for making such a remarkable product available at a great price.

[0.605 lb] It's not cheap but it works very well. My old Pearstone charger was just not charging the batteries as well - the would go dead in my remote control in a matter of days. I threw out the old batteries but then new ones started having the same issues a few months later. This charger was able to condition the cells and they once again last for a couple months in the remote.

Yes, it does have a somewhat noisy fan that runs when the charger is conditioning or charging, so don't put it in your bedroom or home theatre.

[1] The main thing that wasn't clear for me in the beginning was that each status was individual to each battery slot, so you can use the analyzer to figure out which individual battery is good or no good, and act accordingly.

People talk about the fan but it's not terrible even when it kicks up to high. You can hear it and you might have to kick up the volume of music or video playing in the same room by one or two ticks, or maybe put it in a ventilated cupboard with holes pointing away from you, but it's not a huge hairy deal (in my mind). Combined with a voltmeter, you truly can figure out if you have any dud batteries though, and rescue those that aren't duds, just potentially neglected.

[0.605 lb] Works as it should. I had lost my old power cable and had to buy a new one unfortunately. Luckily B&H had it in stock.

[0.605 lb] Ive been using Powerex chargers and PowerexPro batteries for 2+ years. HAPPY PHOTOGRAPHER. Im able to get longer lasting power from Powerex than other brands Ive tried in the past.

I purchased the MH-C980 primarily as a back-up to my MH-801D, which still works flawlessly. After using the C980 a few times, I decided to make it the primary and keep the old one as back-up. Also, it has done a great job at re-conditioning older batteries that were losing capacity.

My opinion: I wouldnt waste money on another brand.

[0.605 lb] Great product! Did exactly as I expected. I took the old batteries from my deck post lights and conditioned them. I found out that , out of 16 - 700Mah batteries none exceeded 150 Mah. Half were less than 50 Mah at full charge. Those were made in China.
I have 8 -2450 Mah IKEA batteries I conditioned next and the lowest came in at 2415 Mah at full charge.
I found 4 other AAA batteries I was going to recycle because I thought they were junk and put them in to condition them. These were only 400 Mah batteries made in China. After the cycle was completed all the batteries still had a lot of use left. They all came in at 390+ Mah

[1] I used this charger to recondition 16 AA batteries. It worked exactly as advertised. It is not a fast process but then it is not supposed to be fast. It charged the batteries up, then it ran them down slowly and shows how much power it got out of them. Finally it recharges them and shows how much they hold. The only down side is once you start the process you cannot interupt it without it starting over. I had a brief power interuption at the house and it started over. It gets a little warm but not bad.
