Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does this surface compare with the now discontinued Gold Fibre Silk?

A: Its essentially just an updated version.

Q: 2. Hi, just want to know where could find the info about what media type should I use for several Ilford papers that I bought from BH ? I hav an epson P600 printer and I downloaded the ICC profiles form the ilford website. In the files I could not find what type of media paper should I use. I write to ilford via his website but they did not answer. i tried 4 times. The papers I bought are Ilford Gold Fibre silk, Smooth Pearl 330 g, Gold mono Silk and Gold Cotton Texture. If someone knows a way to contact ilford from the united states I really appreciate you tell me how. It appears ilford international is not working or does not answer any question. Thanks again for your time and help.

A: For Smooth Pearl 330 g, use Premium Photo Paper Semi-gloss as the media type.Helen

Q: 3. Can spray protectant be used on the surface after the ink drys? I love this paper but the surface is very delicate.

A: The Ilford GALERIE Metallic Gloss Paper can be sprayed with a protective spray such as this Moab: https://bhpho.to/3uuLzvE

Q: 4. Is this new paper the replacement of the now discontinued smooth super high gloss ? Does it have same characteristics or is it entirely new ?

A: Glossy inkjet is a type of paper that shines by nature. When light falls on such paper it is either reflected parallelly or at an angle. With metallic paper a sheet of mylar is kept between the printing paper and the emulsion. So there's no real comparison. Metallic is far superior for a 3D look. That being said Gloss doesn't change the image effect as does metallic and the colors can be a bit more accurate.

Q: 5. It's a little hard to tell the printable side on this paper, how would I know the printable side?...thanks

A: The Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl should have a slight reflective quality on the printable side. You can also moisten your finger and touch a corner. The printable side will be slightly sticky while the back will not stick to your finger at all.

Q: 6. What is the material of the paper? (cotton rag, etc.)

A: It is a Heavy weight RC photo paper. It is FSC® certified paper (FSC Mixed Credit, FSC® C010119. FSC Mix labels identify products which are made with a combination of FSC virgin fiber, and/or recycled materials with Controlled virgin fiber.

Q: 7. Using Canon PRO-100 printer. What setting should be used?

A: Call lIford Co and obtain the Icc Profile for the Canon Pro-100 Printer.I had to do this for the Epson 3880 printer. The RESULTS WERE GREAT!!!

Q: 8. Can this paper be used with Canon Lucia Ink on a Canon Pro 9500 Mark II printer?

A: Ilford went out of business, and the this paper is discontinued. So do not invest in any old stock left behind. For what it's worth, the Epson Exhibition Fiber is the closest match in thickness and color, but cost more. The Epson Ultra Premium Photo Luster matches color, but is a thinner paper than the Exhibition, but cost a ton less. After trying a small army of papers to replace Ilford, we settled on the Epson Ultra Luster I just mentioned.

Q: 9. Should this paper be printed with Photo black or Matte? My epson P800 automatically changes the ink to matte

A: You would want to print with Photo black ideally. If you haven't yet, you can download the ICC profile for this paper here and it should print accordingly. https://ilford.com/printer-profiles-paper-settings/

Q: 10. Is Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl close to a matte finish?

A: No the Smooth Pearl is not close to a matte finish. It is closer to an off white Luster finish with a very dull shine.

[98%] Been using Epson paper for many, many years, but I decided to give Ilford a try with so many positive reviews that I read. When used with my Epson HD XP-15000 printer, the results are amazing. Highly recommended this paper.

[Single] This is a very nice paper that is a pleasure to use with the Epson P9570. As I mentioned in the headline, blacks print wonderfully on this paper using the black enhance overcoat. The sharpness is remarkable as well. There is a slight texture to the surface which is ok... I might take a half star off the rating if I could.

[50x Sheet Paper] I came to this paper on the demise of gold fiber silk, and was not disappointed. Great vibrancy with colors and it's outstanding with B&W.

[0.9 lb] After Fibre Gold Silk was no longer available I decided to try the gloss. This paper has beautiful black and white tones and a very nice surface. Just may become my favorite paper.

[50x Sheet Paper] Been using this paper since they stopped making the Gold Fibre Silk. Ilford is the only brand I use for my printing purposes and it has been phenomenal for either color or B&W prints. Not the cheapest but my trusted go to paper.
