The 67mm Cokin NUANCES Variable ND Filter 67mm 1-8 Stopfrom Cokin NUANCES Variable ND Filter 67mm 1-8 Stopis designed to mount onto lenses with 67mm front filter threads and provides an exposure reduction of 1 to 8 stops. Its density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is visually demarcated with dots and includes a rotation lever to further enable fast and precise positioning of the front ring.

This filter is constructed from Schott B270 glass for increased optical clarity as well as color fidelity, and each glass surface features 16 layers of Cokin's EVERCLEAR 5 anti-reflection coating. These coatings are resistant to oil, dust, dirt, and scratches, offering greater protection to the filter and helping it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. The coatings are also hydrophobic, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I see the filter does not protrude from the sides like most NDs. Can you use the original lens hood with this filter?

A: Most likely, yes, but it depends on the lens and the hood.

Q: 2. Are all the original accessories included unless otherwise stated, or might some accessories be missing?

A: The PolarPro 82mm Peter McKinnon Signature Edition II Variable ND 1.8 to 2.7 Filter (6 to 9-Stop) is an 82mm screw on filter. And does not come with accessories as none are needed to use it. it does come with, Defender 360 Filter Cover/Case and a Cleaning Cloth.

Q: 3. What size Push-On lens cap do I need for this filter? The frame of the filter seems to be larger than 82mm

A: If you are planning on keeping the step ring on while you shooting yes you will have to buy an 82mm cap

Q: 4. What is the difference between the Peter McKinnon Signature Edition PolarPro 77-6/9 filter for 249.99 vs. the one for 299.99?

A: The Polar Pro Peter McKinnon Signature Edition II ($249.99) is the newer variant of the filter. It has a haptic feedback mechanism that clicks to indicate when you've reached the next or previous stop. The ring is also a bit more gold than it's predecessor and comes in a smaller environmental friendly package. The older version ($299) comes in a bigger fancier box, does not have the haptic feedback and is optically the same as the newer variant. If I were you, I would go with the Signature Edition II, it's cheaper and it's the most updated version of the filter.

Q: 5. Can the OEM Lens hood be used while filter is on? I can still use the lens hood with the old Hoya variable ND.

A: Hoya 77mm Variable Density II Filter gets in the way of the original lens hood and it cannot be used.

Q: 6. I've read and heard online that this filter effectively cuts some measure of IR. How true is this?

A: Syrp does not list any specifications on IR transmittance. Without a listed specification, this is subject to product variance. It is impossible to guarantee a specific IR attenuation.

Q: 7. What is the difference between this filter and the almost identical "PolarPro 77mm Peter McKinnon Edition Variable Neutral Density 1.8 to 2.7 Filter (6 to 9-Stop) (B&H link: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1479431-REG/polarpro_77_6_9_vnd_variable_nd_77mm_6.html)? I can't seem to find any differences in the description or specifications.

A: The difference between this ND Filter and PolarPro 77mm Peter McKinnon Edition Variable Neutral Density 1.8 to 2.7 Filter (6 to 9-Stop) is this Filter ring incorporates a haptic feedback mechanism for quick adjustment, without the need to stop and look at the filter position. Also, the Filter will include a Defender 360 hybrid cap/case for storage and transport, featuring a waterproof and dustproof seal.

Q: 8. Will the lens hood of Sony 70-200 GMII fit over the filter?

A: No, the PolarPro 77mm Peter McKinnon Signature Edition II Variable ND 1.8 to 2.7 Filter (6 to 9-Stop) will not fit the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS II Lens with a lens hood.

Q: 9. What's the difference between this filter and the seemingly identical Edition I version, which is $50 cheaper right here at B&H?

A: The version II has haptic feedback, so each stop has a click to notify you when you've reached the desired stop without really looking. It comes in a much smaller, eco-friendly package, a newly designed defender case and the trim is a little bit more gold. Optically there really isn't a difference. I have the original 2-5 and the newer 6-9 and the image is identical. Different color shifts but it's almost non-existant. Hopefully this helps!

Q: 10. Do I need an additional accessory to use this on my Sony 70-200 f2.8 GMII?

A: No, the PolarPro 77mm Peter McKinnon Signature Edition II Variable ND 1.8 to 2.7 Filter (6 to 9-Stop) will screw onto the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS II Lens directly.
