The 82mm Cokin NUANCES Variable ND Filter 82mm 1-8 Stopfrom Cokin NUANCES Variable ND Filter 82mm 1-8 Stopis designed to mount onto lenses with 82mm front filter threads and provides an exposure reduction of 1 to 8 stops. Its density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is visually demarcated with dots and includes a rotation lever to further enable fast and precise positioning of the front ring.

This filter is constructed from Schott B270 glass for increased optical clarity as well as color fidelity, and each glass surface features 16 layers of Cokin's EVERCLEAR 5 anti-reflection coating. These coatings are resistant to oil, dust, dirt, and scratches, offering greater protection to the filter and helping it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. The coatings are also hydrophobic, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If you use this Variable ND Filter on a Sony 200-600mm Lens, can you still put the lens hood on?

A: yes the Lens hood has a cutout that allows you to rotate the variable nd filter

Q: 2. Does anyone have a fix for the PolarPro 95mm VNDs not fitting properly on the Canon 28-70 2.0?

A: Yes, you can use this PolarPro 95mm Course Thread Adapter on the Canon 28-70 2.0 and it will accept PolarPro 95mm filters. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1784168-REG/

Q: 3. Want to use on a canon ef 100-400 mm to photograph an eclipse. Will it fit/work?

A: Yes,your ND filter will work with solar eclipse. But, that is the least of your problems. If will give the impression that it reduces the light from the sun. It does for visible light, but does NOT reduce the permanent eye damage from UV, which will past through your ND filter as if you had no ND filter. If you do use it for solar eclipse, you MUST, to keep your vision, add add a CERTIFIED solar eclipse filter to stop the very damaging UV light. Without the solar filter, you'll most likely burn out your camera's sensor, along with your vision. Permanently. Wishing you great luck with your solar photos. Respectfully submitted, Bill Edmundson

Q: 4. Does this filter come with the magnetic ring that goes on the camera, and then the filter snaps on to that?

A: The Freewell Mist Edition Threaded Bright Day Variable ND Filter (2-5 Stops, 82mm) is not a magnetic filter.

Q: 5. Can I stack another 58mm filter on top of this one?

A: The Bower 58mm Variable Neutral Density Filter has a 62mm front threading. If you want to stack another filter in the front it would need to be a 62mm filter. Alternatively you can put the other 58mm filter in bottom and this one on top. Always be careful to avoid vignetting when stacking filters.

Q: 6. What is the difference between Helix and Helix Maglock?

A: There is no difference between PolarPro Helix and PolarPro Helix Maglock. They are the same. They just added the name MagLock so customers know you can lock the filter after it is attached.

Q: 7. Can you stack 2 of these VND/PL FILTERS for additional ND values?

A: Two of the PolarPro Peter McKinnon Chroma VND/PL Filter for Helix Maglock (6 to 9-Stop) should not be stacked as it creates aberrations.

Q: 8. is it a polarizer filter as well?

A: This is mainly for reducing the light as a whole while a polarizer will reduce glare/reflections with a minimal loss of light.

Q: 9. Does this include the magnetic cap that the other freewill VND filters have?

A: Yes, the lens cap would be included with the purchase of the Freewell Mist Edition Threaded Bright Day Variable ND Filter (2-5 Stops, 82mm), B&H # FRFW82MVNDST.

Q: 10. Can I stack this with a PolarPro 4 stop ND filter?

A: The PolarPro Peter McKinnon Chroma Variable ND & Polarizer Filter 82mm does not have front filter threads. However, the PolarPro QuartzLine Solid ND Filter (82mm, 4-Stop) has 82mm front threads. Therefore you can stack the variable filter on top of the solid ND.

[Multi Coated] I’ve used Moment lens on my phone before and have always been happy. So I decided to try their ND Filters and couldn’t be happier. They look great and perform well. I’ve had 0 vignetting issues.

[Multi Coated] I use this for filming wedding videos in sunny colorado. Not only does it allow you to stop down, but it also makes the sky pop a deeper blue and gives the image an overall quality in blazing sunlight. It's also nice that the variable is a smooth ring and can easily transition within a shot (as apposed to a built in ND that clicks).

[Aluminum] I have purchased several of these over the last several years for my various lens and find they work very well to reduce light to get the silky smooth appearance of a photogenic waterfall. They are quality made and easy to adjust for the desired degree of darkness for your pictures. They do require removal of any lens hood since the outer ring is larger than the lens purchasing for.

[6 x 5 x 0.1"] I purchased this for my Canon 24-70mm L series lens specifically. It does the job and is nice having the variable feature. However I do feel has you add more stops it tends to create a weird vignette

[0.3 lb] This does what it should do without breaking the bank. I see no image degradation with my Leica lenses.
