The SoundTools XLR Cable Tester Sniffer Sender Remote Endfrom SoundTools XLR Cable Tester Sniffer Sender Remote Endis a remote end cable tester with a Sniffer unit that reads the status of the cable and a Sender unit as the power source. It can be used to test snake lines and cables when the ends are at a distance in live and rehearsal applications. Utilizing phantom power, the Sniffer end tests snake lines in minutes and displays a readout of 3 simple LEDs with the diagnosis of your cable. The XLR Sniffer/Sender tests for every possible short-circuit, open, or cross wire in XLR cables. If the LEDs read all green, your cable will work.

Q: 1. Does it test RG59 cable with DNC ?

A: Unfortunately the CBT-12 does not support BNC connectors.

Q: 2. can it test cables that are already placed in the walles and the tester can only be at one side and my camera at the other side ?

A: No. The unit is designed to test cables by attaching both ends to the tester.

Q: 3. Can I test SDI Video Cable?

A: The CBT-12 does not have BNC jacks for testing SDI video cable, so you would have to use the two removable leads included for testing wire or cable with jacks that are not included.

Q: 4. Can it test an audio cable with 1/4 on one end and 1/8th on the other?

A: You can use the included testing probes to test each connection separately.

Q: 5. Some speaker cables have a banana plug on one end and a TS connector on the other. Are the banana connections on this tester able to accept this type of connector so you can test this type of speaker cable?

A: The banana plug inputs on the unit are specifically made to connect the included probes, which can then be used to test continuity with any type of cable connector.

Q: 6. Does the CT-3 have a built in speaker or a headphone jack to monitor incoming line/mic level audio signals?

A: In addition to its onboard lights, the dbx CT-3 Advanced Cable Tester uses a test tone generator which sends signal out of the jacks on the left side of the unit. The Test Tone generator is strong enough to drive certain devices directly for testing without additional power. For example, a speaker may be directly connected to the CT3 and the 1KHZ tone may be heard from the speaker. Headphones can be directly driven, as well as telephone lines. The unit does not have a built-in speaker.

A: Yes. SDI is just standard BNC cables, which this cable tester can check.

It also was used to verify cable-to-stage box assignments and to identify orphan cables left under the stage following last year's remodeling. We couldn't have done it as fast or as easily without this handy device! 5

[4.4 x 3 x 1.6"] There's no better way to test installed XLR cable or analog snakes. The LED lights show a constant reading of continuity. If there are any faults, the LED codes instantly determine what needs correction. If there's any intermittency, the LEDs catch that, too, with a flickering status. The phantom power testing with a snake is a cool option, too. 5

[0.305 lb] Does exactly what is advertised. Had a problem with a line running from the stage to the audio booth. Had tried switching out components and cables to no avail. When I received the SoundTools XLR Sniffer/Sender Remote End Cable Tester, could trace down the problem in a matter of minutes. HIGHLY recommend this unit for install applications. Doyle 5
