A: Well it depends on the color of the ink and the color of the picture. The 4900 uses color ink even to print B&W pictures . So it is a question that needs more information to answer.

A: It should have plenty of ink in the cartridge. It may have solidified over that long of time. Remove the cartridge and shake it lightly and reinstall. Make a small test print (4 x 6 inch) to verify. If this works I'd suggest doing same to the other cartridges too. Also, run the cleaning application that the printer came with to clean nozzles. The cartridges also have a Use by date so you may have passed this date up; however, I don't think this is the problem. Good luck.

A: I have an Epson 4900 but, except for the size of each cartridge, the ink set is the same. I would encourage anyone to use the green and orange inks. They make a real difference in the color palette of the print.

Unless you're frequently doing very large prints, the shelf life of the cartridge will be exceeded before you run out of ink.
