The FotodioX WonderPana FreeArc Core Unit Kit Sigma 14mm Lens Filtersis a two-piece assembly designed to be used in combination with a FotodioX WonderPana FreeArc Core Unit, a WonderPana 145 Core Unit, or a WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring. A WonderPana Core Unit or a WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring with the WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket attached can then allow for the convenient use of two 2.5 to 4.0mm-thick filters measuring 6.6" wide, or one 2.5 to 4.0mm-thick filter measuring 6.6" wide along with one FotodioX 145mm round filter behind it.

Use of this holder bracket is easily accomplished by separately attaching its two assembly pieces to opposite sides of a WonderPana Core Unit or a WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring using the six included brass short-screws. Pre-tapped threaded inserts along the edge of a WonderPana Core Unit or FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring accommodate those screws and ensure correct positioning of the two assembly pieces so that they are positioned parallel to each other and can hold a 6.6"-wide filter between them. The combined WonderPana Core Unit, or WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring, and WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket can then be attached to a compatible lens.

For WonderPana Core Units that consist of a rear lens collar and a front filter holder, pre-tapped threaded inserts along the edge of the front filter holder accommodate the six brass short-screws for correct positioning of the WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket's two assembly pieces. Once the holder bracket and a front filter holder are combined, and the separate collar has been slid over the rear of a compatible lens until it has achieved a secure fit, the front filter holder with the attached holder bracket can be screwed onto the front of the installed rear lens collar.

After being fitted onto a compatible lens, the bearing design of the WonderPana FreeArc Core Units and WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Rings allows a WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket to be rotated 360°. This permits the use of graduated neutral density and other filters that are enhanced by varied positioning. While a WonderPana 145 Core Unit does not include a 360° rotating mechanism, eight pre-tapped threaded inserts all around its edge allows the WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket to be installed in 45° increments so that rectangular filters placed within it can be angled to the best approximate position relative to the subject in front of the camera.

The FotodioX WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket provides two pairs of filter slots, a configuration that accommodates two compatible rectangular filters. For each rectangular filter that is placed within one of the holder bracket's slots, its position can be secured using the included brass long-screws. Pre-tapped threaded inserts along the outside of the holder bracket allow the long-screws to each apply pressure to a spring-loaded retainer within each filter slot. When a pair of the long-screws are used, the level of grip upon a rectangular filter can be varied, which can complement the use of graduated filters whose effect can be adjusted to better suit changing lighting conditions or creative demands by sliding them up or down within a filter slot.

Each FotodioX WonderPana Core Unit or WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring includes front filter threads, which allow a FotodioX 145mm round filter to be used along with this filter holder. If a 145mm round filter is used on the attached WonderPana Core Unit or WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring, the rectangular filter slot closest to the rear of the holder bracket becomes unavailable. The WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket features a lightweight, aluminum-alloy construction that has a corrosion-resistant, black anodized finish for durability. A rigid pouch is included for storage and transport.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have a Nikon D700 w 12 mb sensor, and am tryiing to decide whether to buy this in a Nikon mount. The alternative, obviously more costly, is a new Sony A7 III with an SE mount. Any obvious advantage for astrophotography in either set up? Nikon option would save a bundle.

A: You will get excellent images with the 12.1 MP D700 and this lens. You will get excellent images with the 24MB a7 III and this lens but with 2x the resolution. This will allow large prints or the freedom to crop heavily. I would opine that the D700, while a terrific camera, is no longer a top rank camera and that up grading to a Sony a7 III or a 24MB D750 would be the way to go.

Q: 2. Can this lens be used for architectural photography or are the distortions too great?

A: This lens lens is very good for architectural photography will very minimal distortion.

Q: 3. Will it vignete on a gh5 with MBSB XL 0,64?

A: This is a full frame lens. If you are using it on a Speedbooster Adapter it should not vignette.

Q: 4. Will this focal length result in vignetting on a full frame camera? I currently have a Tokina 11-20mm and it vignettes hard below 16mm.

A: DG is Sigma's full frame series, the DC is their cropped sensor series. The lens displays a slight amount of vignetting in the corners when shot wide open at f/1.8, which is corrected with Lightroom when using the lens profile.

Q: 5. Will this lens come in a Nikon DSLR Mount?

A: Current mounts available are for Sony E and Leica L systems. We suggest the following lens in a 14mm Nikon f mount Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art Lens for Nikon F BH #SI1418N • MFR #450955 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1321307-REG/sigma_14mm_f_1_8_dg_hsm.html

Q: 6. Has anyone used this lens to photograph a large group (100+) and if so how did it perform?

A: The Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art Lens for Canon EF is a very good sharp lens. Note any lens that wide will give you some distortion. Most do not use such a wide lens for portraits.

Q: 7. Does this lens or L mount lenses in general fit on the Red Komodo? And if so, would it be with an adaptor?

A: No, the Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art Lens for Leica L will not work in the Red Komodo as it is RF mount and there is not an adapter made.

Q: 8. front lens element filter size?

A: There is not a way to use a flat filter on this lens. The glass is curved (domed) and there are not threads for a screw on filter. I don't know how you would apply a filter holder either. I'm not sure how I am going to protect this lens from the elements, and I really like to use polarizers when shooting landscape.

Q: 9. Can I manual focus Sigma 14mm f/1.4 on a Sony A7IV body through the Sony Imaging Edge Desktop on Mac or Windows?

A: The Sigma 14mm f/1.4 DG DN Art Lens (Sony E) will provide the same performance as a Sony native lens when connecting the lens to a Sony mirrorless camera and using Sony Imaging Edge Desktop. You can fine-tune your focus by using the focus adjustment tools.

Q: 10. Are all focus modes available when using this lens on a Sony a7 iii? Or is it similar to using a canon lens with a sigma adapter?

A: I can't speak to the A7III (not owning one), but on the A7s and A7rIIall focus modes function as with native lenses.
