The FotodioX WonderPana FreeArc Core Unit Kit for Olympus 7-14mm PRO Lensis a two-piece assembly designed to be used in combination with a FotodioX WonderPana FreeArc Core Unit, a WonderPana 145 Core Unit, or a WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring. A WonderPana Core Unit or a WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring with the WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket attached can then allow for the convenient use of two 2.5 to 4.0mm-thick filters measuring 6.6" wide, or one 2.5 to 4.0mm-thick filter measuring 6.6" wide along with one FotodioX 145mm round filter behind it.

Use of this holder bracket is easily accomplished by separately attaching its two assembly pieces to opposite sides of a WonderPana Core Unit or a WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring using the six included brass short-screws. Pre-tapped threaded inserts along the edge of a WonderPana Core Unit or FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring accommodate those screws and ensure correct positioning of the two assembly pieces so that they are positioned parallel to each other and can hold a 6.6"-wide filter between them. The combined WonderPana Core Unit, or WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring, and WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket can then be attached to a compatible lens.

For WonderPana Core Units that consist of a rear lens collar and a front filter holder, pre-tapped threaded inserts along the edge of the front filter holder accommodate the six brass short-screws for correct positioning of the WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket's two assembly pieces. Once the holder bracket and a front filter holder are combined, and the separate collar has been slid over the rear of a compatible lens until it has achieved a secure fit, the front filter holder with the attached holder bracket can be screwed onto the front of the installed rear lens collar.

After being fitted onto a compatible lens, the bearing design of the WonderPana FreeArc Core Units and WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Rings allows a WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket to be rotated 360°. This permits the use of graduated neutral density and other filters that are enhanced by varied positioning. While a WonderPana 145 Core Unit does not include a 360° rotating mechanism, eight pre-tapped threaded inserts all around its edge allows the WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket to be installed in 45° increments so that rectangular filters placed within it can be angled to the best approximate position relative to the subject in front of the camera.

The FotodioX WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket provides two pairs of filter slots, a configuration that accommodates two compatible rectangular filters. For each rectangular filter that is placed within one of the holder bracket's slots, its position can be secured using the included brass long-screws. Pre-tapped threaded inserts along the outside of the holder bracket allow the long-screws to each apply pressure to a spring-loaded retainer within each filter slot. When a pair of the long-screws are used, the level of grip upon a rectangular filter can be varied, which can complement the use of graduated filters whose effect can be adjusted to better suit changing lighting conditions or creative demands by sliding them up or down within a filter slot.

Each FotodioX WonderPana Core Unit or WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring includes front filter threads, which allow a FotodioX 145mm round filter to be used along with this filter holder. If a 145mm round filter is used on the attached WonderPana Core Unit or WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring, the rectangular filter slot closest to the rear of the holder bracket becomes unavailable. The WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket features a lightweight, aluminum-alloy construction that has a corrosion-resistant, black anodized finish for durability. A rigid pouch is included for storage and transport.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this lens require an adapter when used with the Panasonic GX8 or G5? Autofocus functions OK with those cameras? Thanks.

A: No. This lens does not require and sort of adaptor. Bring micro 4/3 is is 100% compatible. This includes autofocus.

Q: 2. What are the chances that Oly has eliminated the infamous wide-open purple fringe aberration found on the Panasonic 7-14mm?

A: Its impossible to know to what extent there may not be purple fringing until the lens is released. That being said, it will have a different optical design with different coatings, so should perform differently than the Panasonic version. Though, purple fringing is always a possibility with super wide zooms. If you shoot stopped down and reframe your shot to avoid high contrast, it can help avoid chromatic aberration.

Q: 3. What is the best way to clean the ZERO coated lens such as this? Especially since a filter cannot be placed on it.

A: I called Olympus tech support. Any photographic lens cleaning solution can be used. Use a microfiber cloth and spray one corner of the cloth with cleaning solution. DO NOT spray the cleaning solution directly on the lens. Starting in the middle of the lens, rub the corner that has been wetted with the solution in a circular motion out toward the periphery of the lens. Repeat the motion with the dry portion of the microfiber cloth. Use a light touch with the cloth at all times to avoid trapping any debris against the lens and scoring it accidentally.I usually used a blower to puff some air on the lens to clean off as much dust and loosely adhered debris prior to using any cleaning solution. It may be that you won't need to use the cloth/cleaning solution at all.

Q: 4. is this 7-14 mm lens to heavy for my Olympus m5IIII am a bigger and need wide angle for selling boats n(interior shots need to be better than Olympus kit lens 14-150mm? I have compared weight and I am adding 10oz.... thank you.

A: This lens would not be too heavy to use with the OM-D E-M5 III.

Q: 5. Does this M.Zuiko 7-14mm PRO lens change length as it zooms like the M.Zuiko 12-40mm PRO or does it maintain the same length and do all it lens movements internally like the M.Zuiko 40-150mm PRO?

A: The lens front glass element changes position (1 ) within the stationary lens hood as it zooms between 7-14mm (most retracted @ 14mm.) The length of the overall lens unit remains fixed (lens hood itself does not extend or retract, and the front glass element doesn't extend beyond the longest edge of the tulip hood.)

Q: 6. Is it possible to use an ND filter with this lens? If so, What would I need to buy? I hear there is not thread to screw on a filter

A: At this time, using filters with this lens is not an option. Perhaps there will be filter holders designed for the lens after its release, but no manufacturers have an option for the lens at this time.

Q: 7. How does this lens work with a Panasonic GH4? How does it compare to the Panasonic 7-14?

A: This is a standard MFT mount so will work fine with the GH4. the Zuiko 7-14 is a fabulous lens! Super sharp corner to corner, fast f 2.8. I'm loving it. I have not used the Panasonic 7-14 so I suggest you read Gordon Laing's reviews at Camerlabs about these two lenses for in-depth evaluation to help you decide.

Q: 8. Does this lens have built in image stabilization that can be used with the GH5's IBIS?

A: The Olympus 7-14mm f2.8 Pro does not have in-lens image stabilization. I have had it for a couple of weeks and used it already on two overseas trips. It's an extraordinary lens. I went into the B&H store in Manhattan to buy the lens in person. While there, I was able to mount both this lens and the Panasonic 7-14mm f4 on my own camera and take photos in the store. Both have excellent image quality and are absolutely rectilinear (i.e. straight lines appear straight, even at the edges of the frame and even at the widest end of the zoom range.) As many online reviewers have noted, the Panasonic lens has obvious purple fringing when used on Olympus cameras. This problem apparently does not affect Panasonic cameras. So if you're okay with losing one stop of light, the equivalent Panasonic lens is very good. It's also smaller, lighter and about $300 cheaper.

Q: 9. How will this perform for photography on a Panasonic body without IS?

A: I use it on a Panasonic GH4 and Love it.

Q: 10. It appears this lens will not accept filters. Is this true?

A: The Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 does not have a filter thread, so will not accept standard circular threaded filters. And, at this time there isnt a filter holder option for the lens.

[0.665 lb] I already had the 17mm, 25mm, and 45mm f/1.2 Pro lenses and I wanted a 12mm that would render surfaces, especially skin and eyes, as well as those pro primes. The 7-14mm did not disappoint. Superb on the BMPCC 4K.

You will need a matte box with a top flag, or some such device, to prevent flare.

[0.665 lb] This my 2nd Oly Pro series lens. These are all just great. I’d call this one “extreme” wide angle. The FOV @ 7mm is amazing. I’d say it’s more a specialty lens than an every day carry or walk-around lens but it excels in every way.. As always YMMV
