The FotodioX WonderPana FreeArc Core Unit Kit for Canon TS-E 17mm Lensis a two-piece assembly designed to be used in combination with a FotodioX WonderPana FreeArc Core Unit, a WonderPana 145 Core Unit, or a WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring. A WonderPana Core Unit or a WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring with the WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket attached can then allow for the convenient use of two 2.5 to 4.0mm-thick filters measuring 6.6" wide, or one 2.5 to 4.0mm-thick filter measuring 6.6" wide along with one FotodioX 145mm round filter behind it.

Use of this holder bracket is easily accomplished by separately attaching its two assembly pieces to opposite sides of a WonderPana Core Unit or a WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring using the six included brass short-screws. Pre-tapped threaded inserts along the edge of a WonderPana Core Unit or FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring accommodate those screws and ensure correct positioning of the two assembly pieces so that they are positioned parallel to each other and can hold a 6.6"-wide filter between them. The combined WonderPana Core Unit, or WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring, and WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket can then be attached to a compatible lens.

For WonderPana Core Units that consist of a rear lens collar and a front filter holder, pre-tapped threaded inserts along the edge of the front filter holder accommodate the six brass short-screws for correct positioning of the WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket's two assembly pieces. Once the holder bracket and a front filter holder are combined, and the separate collar has been slid over the rear of a compatible lens until it has achieved a secure fit, the front filter holder with the attached holder bracket can be screwed onto the front of the installed rear lens collar.

After being fitted onto a compatible lens, the bearing design of the WonderPana FreeArc Core Units and WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Rings allows a WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket to be rotated 360°. This permits the use of graduated neutral density and other filters that are enhanced by varied positioning. While a WonderPana 145 Core Unit does not include a 360° rotating mechanism, eight pre-tapped threaded inserts all around its edge allows the WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket to be installed in 45° increments so that rectangular filters placed within it can be angled to the best approximate position relative to the subject in front of the camera.

The FotodioX WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket provides two pairs of filter slots, a configuration that accommodates two compatible rectangular filters. For each rectangular filter that is placed within one of the holder bracket's slots, its position can be secured using the included brass long-screws. Pre-tapped threaded inserts along the outside of the holder bracket allow the long-screws to each apply pressure to a spring-loaded retainer within each filter slot. When a pair of the long-screws are used, the level of grip upon a rectangular filter can be varied, which can complement the use of graduated filters whose effect can be adjusted to better suit changing lighting conditions or creative demands by sliding them up or down within a filter slot.

Each FotodioX WonderPana Core Unit or WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring includes front filter threads, which allow a FotodioX 145mm round filter to be used along with this filter holder. If a 145mm round filter is used on the attached WonderPana Core Unit or WonderPana FreeArc Aluminum Step-Up Ring, the rectangular filter slot closest to the rear of the holder bracket becomes unavailable. The WonderPana 6.6" Holder Bracket features a lightweight, aluminum-alloy construction that has a corrosion-resistant, black anodized finish for durability. A rigid pouch is included for storage and transport.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. One of the reviewers mentioned the Fotodiox Wonderpana Freearc system to protect the front lens of the TS-E 17mm. I like that idea, but which one?

A: I have used the TS-E 17 for a couple of years. Absolutely love this lens. I however don't want to put anything between my great UD L series glass and the subject. I will admit that I was concerned about the protruding front element at first. However the concerns have faded with use. I usually have the lens cap in place unless I'm taking a shot, but have trekked about in major cities like Chicago and D.C. with the lens ready to go. I do recommend that you cary a good cleaning kit in your bag, and as with all optics keep 'em clean. This lens is absolutely awesome - go shoot and get comfortable with working with such an outstanding piece of glass!

Q: 2. Lens hood included or is this lens to be used with the glass exposed like that?

A: Canon doesn't make a hood for this lens. WonderPana Filter Holder for Canon 17mm TS-E can be used as a hood.

Q: 3. Does this lens shoot astrophotography well? Anyone have examples ?

A: Not sure why you would need tilt shift for this. Its an architectural lens for correcting distortion of buildings and interiors.

Q: 4. I notice the narrow lens hood and it makes me wonder if this lens will work with filters. That is to say, will a circular polarizer filter block the view of the lens? How about with two filters stacked, uv and cpl? Thanks

A: I use the lee filter holder system with 2 neutral density filters and a 105mm polarizer. No vignetting at all. I would not use a uv and apolarizer. just use a polarizer. One thing I noticed with these lenses is minor manufacturing variances with how tight or loose the manual focus ring is, and some issues with quality of image. My copy is unbelievably sharp. Grains of sand are easy to identify 10 feet away.

Q: 5. Hi!! Do you know tell me if the 17mm TS from one side of the shift all the way to the other is equivalent image circle to a 10mm lens (full frame)? I mean, if i shift up, take a picture, than shift dow and take another, then put them together i can gat the same angle of reach of a 10mm wide angle lenses? How many mm wide the hole possible Tilt circle is equivalent? Thanks a lot!! Cheers!!

A: Yes you can shift - take a center shot horizontal - a full left shift and a full right shift and merge all three images in photoshop. The view would be about equal to a 10mm lens in the left and right view. Matching exposure and color can be a bit tricky depending on the image. Also the extreme outside of the final image will be a bit soft - you are reaching the extreme edge of the circle.

Q: 6. i want to mount this on a pentax kmount. with the fotodiox canon to pentax adapter work with this lens?

A: It seems like the Fotodiox adapter for k mount goes the other way. It allows you to mount Pentax lenses on a Canon body. From some quick googling, I get the impression that it's not possible to mount an EOS lens on a K mount body.

Q: 7. For Portrait vs Landscape photos, do I need to use the Rotation function to 90 degrees (+- depending on left/right camera rotation)?

A: No, one does not adjust the mount rotation: +/- 90° on the Canon TS-E 17mm f/4L Tilt-Shift Lens based on shooting orientation. Rotation of the tilt-shift mechanism should be done based on what is needed for the specific composition. This is independent of camera orientation.

Q: 8. Hi. I want this product to be delivered in Europe. I will find in the box the International Guarentee ? Thanks.

A: The Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II comes with a limited, one year US warranty. However, you may want to look into purchasing additional coverage we offer through Square Trade, which will provide international coverage for either two or three years, as well as protection against drops, spills, and other incidents. Q: 9. Is this lens compatible with either the Canon Rebel XSi and/or Canon EOS 5D Mark III cameras? Thanks!

A: Yes, this lens is fully compatible with the Canon XSi and 5D Mk III cameras, and any other Canon EOS Digital or Film SLR cameras.

Q: 10. Can this be adapted to work on a full-frame Sony camera such as the A1 or an A7r IV ?

A: Yes, you are able to use the Canon TS-E 17mm f/4 tilt-shift lens with an adapter on the Sony A1 and A7RIV cameras.
