If so, can the Ronin S really operate properly if there is a force from above pulling on it rather than just gravity pulling downwards on the gimbal?

A: Hi Ian, Thanks for your interest in Easyrig. The Ronin S can be used with the Minimax with Quick Release in its Underlung mode. This will allow stabilization functionality of the gimbal. In this position, the Quick Release can be mounted to the bottom of the Ronin-S grip via 1/4-20" mounting point.
