This Cooke 50mm Anamorphic/i 1.8x Full Frame SF Prime Lens PLprovides an added anamorphic flair to the classic, natural yet sharp "Cooke look". This Special Flare Cooke 50mm Anamorphic/i 1.8x Full Frame SF Prime Lens PLlens offers exaggerated flares, oval bokeh, and other aberrations while complementing standard Anamorphic/i lenses. Designed for both digital cinema and film use, the Cooke Anamorphic/i SF primes cover image formats up to full frame. Each prime lens provides a 1.8x squeeze that rides a sweet spot between optimal pixel capture and a classic anamorphic look. For maximum optical performance, aberration, flare, and distortion control extend over the entire image area and throughout the 50mm's T2.3-T22 aperture range. The Anamorphic/i Full Frame SF primes are color-balanced and color-matched with other Cooke lens series.

Each lens sports both a hardened PL mount and a cable connection that use Cooke's /i Technology to transmit lens data to compatible cameras. Lens setting data including focal length, aperture, focus, depth of field, and more are provided in both feet and metric measurements.

The 50mm Anamorphic/i SF prime lens features a 2.0' minimum focus from the lens front, engraved focus markings in feet on one side and meters on the other, and a hard, anodized finish. The lens is constructed with 0.8 MOD geared focus and iris rings, for use with follow focus, zoom control, and wireless FIZ systems. A large lens barrel with 270° of rotation, an increased number of focus marks, and Cooke's cam-style focus movement enable precise focus pulls. Most of the Cooke anamorphic series, including this 50mm, share a common 110mm size front diameter.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. When this going to come for Sony E mount ?

A: Unfortunately the manufacturer has not yet announced plans for any additional mounting options. However you could use a pl to e mount adapter to appropriately mount this lens to an e mount body. We suggest the Metabones MB_PL-E-BT1 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1194555-REG/metabones_mb_pl_e_bt1_pl_to_e_mount_adapter.html

Q: 2. Is the lens a true "front anamorphic", or some other optical anamorphic design?

A: The Sirui 50mm T2.9 Full Frame 1.6x Anamorphic Lens is a true Front Anamorphic lens.

Q: 3. Is it possible to change the mount on an E mount lens to a PL mount? I have a Sony camera now, but in case I change cameras late

A: It is not possible. I would get the PL version and use an E-mount adapter if you want the most flexibility in the future.

Q: 4. Will it be possible to change from PL mount to E mount if desired?

A: Yes, through a PL to E adapter like the DZOFilm Octopus Lens Adapter - PL to Sony E (BH #DZOADPLEBLK).

Q: 5. What is the focus throw of this lens in degrees?

A: The NiSi ATHENA PRIME 50mm T1.9 Full-Frame Lens (PL Mount) focus throw is 300 degrees, as listed in the key features section of the listings overview.

Q: 6. What's the outer diameter of this lens for mattebox use?

A: The Sirui 50mm T2.9 Full Frame 1.6x Anamorphic Lens (Sony E) lists a max diameter of 88mm.

Q: 7. Is this lens adaptable to EF?

A: No, unfortunately, the Sirui 50mm T2.9 Full Frame 1.6x Anamorphic Lens (Sony E), cannot be adapted or modified for use with an EF mount. Mirrorless lens must be closer to the sensor, and no adapter would be able to compensate.

Q: 8. Is the image circle 43mm? (same as the 85?)

A: Vazen has not provided an exact measurement for the image circle on their 50mm T2.1 1.8x Full-Frame Anamorphic Lens, but it does cover RED Open Gate and Alexa LF Open Gate. Therefore, it is at least 46.31mm.

Q: 9. Is it a front anamorphic design or something else?

A: The Sirui 50mm T2.9 Full Frame 1.6x Anamorphic Lens is an anamorphic lens.

Q: 10. What size ND filters go this sirui 50mm lens?

A: The Sirui 50mm T2.9 Full Frame 1.6x Anamorphic Lens (Canon RF) (B&H# SIFFEK6R) takes 82mm size filters.

[9.69 lb] The results of the Anamorphic lens on the R5c are amazing. The lens has the right amount of sharpness. The bokeh and the lens flares add a nice look to your film. I plan on buying the 75mm version when it is released :)

[50mm] .I would characterize myself as an amateur filmmaker, or at least a serious hobbyist, who has had no experience with cinematic lenses. This lens was an absolute blast to experiment with. It's a solidly built metal body, with smooth-turning geared focus and aperture rings. It is manual focus, but with the use of focus peaking, very sharp images can be achieved. Not coming from a cinema background, T-stops are a bit mysterious to me, but the wide T2.9 aperture (which I've read is roughly equivalent to f2.1) allows lower ISOs in low light conditions. A nice bonus is the inclusion of a lens pouch. For an example from my first shoot with this lens, visit https://youtu.be/462z64lIzUc. I look forward to playing much more with this fun lens.

[1.8x] Coming from spherical lenses - the price tag might seems high - especially for a relatively unknown brand. But it’s actually very affordable compared to the competition !
Anything cheaper for full frame will fake some of the characteristic of anamorphic lenses, and have no or very low squeeze. I wish it had a 2x squeeze - but the 1.8 squeeze probably allow to slightly more affordable price - while being optimal for 16:9 sensors, that are most likely what you’ll use it on...
Paired with a A7siii the image quality is amazing !
I recommend pairing this with a monitor that allow you to see the desqueezed image, as it can be fairly hard to focus without it, and framing as well can be challenging.
For an anamorphic lens, it’s very sharp, even wide open, I mostly shoot at T4 though mostly because it can be challenging to nail focus with this kind of lenses, as they’re slightly softer than spherical (not in a bad way, image is very pleasing), similar to using a light diffusion filter.
Overall, I totally recommend this lens, hopefully we see a 2x version soon too !
Also, if you’re in a limited budget, I would recommend the 40mm MFT version paired with a Blackmagic pocket 4K... the package would come to $4500 vs $12000... for a little more than 1/3 of the price, result is very close. The A7siii has an edge in low light obviously but if you’re using even minimal lighting (which you should), it shouldn’t be an issue. The blackmagic has the advantage of having a bigger screen - easier to manually focus without monitor.
Both are fantastic combos - and a lot cheaper than Cooke paired with an Alexa ...

[ARRI PL] This lens is awesome, and produces clean images with real cinematic effects. I have the entire set (35mm, 50mm, 75mm, 100mm, 135mm, 150mm plus the 1.25 adapter that produces a 2x squeeze when paired with the 1.6x anamorphic squeeze of the lenses). The lenses produce uniform colors all throughout the set, and images are sharp wide open at T2.9. Somehow SIRUI has managed to make these primes sharp wide open, but not too sharp, given you that movie like look without any diffusion filters on the front of your lens. If you haven't tried the anamorphic look, you have no idea what your projects are missing. As result of purchasing this set, my G Masters and spherical Cine primes are collecting dust. The SIRUI 1.6x T 2.9 Venus Anamorphic lenses are a great set of glass.

[50mm] Few people understand what does it mean anmorphic , with this full frame anmorphic you can enjoy with really depth of field as 50mm and wide view as wide angle after De-Squeeze

This is a sharp lens , with videos gears like a high class but there is a disadvantage in the not correct horizon level in the corners , but i can accept that in this lens price , it is like a gift from suriu .

With 8k you can crop and get the good video , so its highly recommend if you have 8k or 6k
