The Rycote model seems to have slightly shorter hair that feels more plush than the hair on the Zoom model. If you need to cut down more wind rumble, you can try using the included foam windscreen for the Zoom H3-VR Handy Audio Recorder underneath the hairy/furry windshield and that should do the job effectively.

Q: 8. If you mount this item like pictured, what is the point of the velcro? It has no way of latching. It seems like it is supposed to cinch around the mic part itself, but then there's way to much room in the front. Also, am I supposed to leave the foam on?

A: The wind protection works best with the foam in place. When I tighten the velcro around the barrel and then pulls it back into the notch between the barrel and the body, I get a very nice and snug fit.
