An impressive ultra wide-angle prime, the Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM Lensis a Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM LensL-series lens well-suited for landscape, nature, and interior photography applications. Its relatively bright f/2.8 maximum aperture is well-suited to working in difficult lighting conditions and also makes this lens an ideal choice for astrophotography. The optical design incorporates two aspherical elements and two ultra-low dispersion elements to control both spherical and chromatic aberrations in order to realize a high degree of sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy. A Super Spectra coating has also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity when working in backlit and harsh lighting conditions. A ring-type USM and internal focusing mechanism also afford quick, quiet, and accurate autofocus performance, as well as full-time manual focus override. Additionally, this lens is weather-sealed for use in trying climates.

Ultra wide-angle 14mm prime is compatible with full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, as well as APS-C-sized models where it will provide a 22.4mm equivalent focal length range.

Bright f/2.8 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and suits astrophotography applications.

Two ultra-low dispersion elements are used to minimize chromatic aberrations as well as eliminate color blurring around the edges of subjects.

Two aspherical elements help to minimize distortions and spherical aberrations in order to maintain edge-to-edge sharpness and illumination.

Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.

A ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM), along with an internal focusing system, is employed to deliver fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.

As a member of the esteemed L-series, this lens is sealed against dust and moisture for working in inclement environmental conditions.

Built-in lens hood helps to block stray light and also protects the bulbous front element.

Lens's design accepts rear insert-type gelatin filters, which are cut-to-size and inserted behind the rear lens element.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Im interested in using this 14mm lens for night photography and wide-angle macro. Has anyone tried using this lens with a 12mm extension tube for wide-angle macro? Im wondering if thats even possible. Thanks!

A: As per Canon, the Extension Tube EF 12 II will not work with this particular lens.

Q: 2. will this adapter ring work willthe canon 14mm f/2.8L version 1 lens ?

A: This equipment is lens specific. Lee designed the system for specific ultra wide angle lenses only.

Q: 3. I'm looking at this lens for Milky Way photography. How is the barrel distortion on this compared to the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8, which I have and like, except for that distortion?

A: Dave, I have/had both lenses and prefer the Canon 14mm overall, although I have not specifically compared barrel distortion. Bought the Rokinon for northern lights photography in Norway and Sweden. The Rokinon distortion wasn't a problem for me as the whole NL photo scene is pretty wild as is. As you know, the Canon 14mm is big $$, so would hope it will have more use than the Milky Way. These days my kit is basically the 14mm, 24-70mm and 100-400mm, on a 1dX MII body.

Q: 4. I want to use this lens for night photography of stars & sky. Does this lens have coma?

A: I have used this lens on multiple occasions for night photography including stars and milky way. I have not noticed any discernable coma issues with it.

Q: 5. I need a ND filter for this lens.Any suggestions ?

A: This lens would require a custom filter holder. At this time, no one is making it. Unfortunately, unless you build one yourself, there is no way to attach a filter to the lens.

Q: 6. what is the thread size?

A: Unfortunately, the Canon Super Wide Angle EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM Autofocus Lens does not have a front filter thread. It has a Gel filter holder at the rear of the lens.

Q: 7. for small room interior does this behave likeness of the Canon Mount Zeiss 18mm - zero distortion

A: Yes, that lens has very little distortion and is one of the best lenses you can buy for shooting architectural interiors.

Q: 8. can we used this lens in Sony A7R3

A: The Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM Lens is designed for use on the Canon EF lens mount, while the Sony Alpha a7RIII Mirrorless Digital Camera uses the smaller Sony E-mount lens mount. As such, you need a lens adapter to connect the above lens to your camera. If you purchase either the Metabones Canon EF/EF-S Lens to Sony E Mount T Smart Adapter (Fifth Generation), B&H # MEMBEFEBT5, or the Vello Canon EF/EF-S Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Auto Lens Adapter, B&H # VELAESECEF, you may use the Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM Lens, B&H # CA2414L2EF, on the Sony Alpha a7RIII Mirrorless Digital Camera.

Q: 9. Which Sensor works best with this 14MM Lens, a APS-C CMOS or a Full Frame CMOS?

A: Best is subjective term. The EF 14mm lens was designed for a full frame sensor and thus gives the full ultra-wide angle of view when used with a full frame sensor. On an APS-C sensor you will still reap the benefits of a very high quality Canon prime L lens except that it will not be quite as wide. It will behave more like a 22-23mm lens would on a full frame sensor. Of course, there are some Canon EF-S zoom lenses such as the EF-S 10-22mm or the newer EF-S 10-18mm lenses that will provide a wider angle of view on an APS-C sensor than the 14mm lens will, but they will not offer a f/2.8 maximum aperture, nor are they optically in quite the same league as the L series prime lenses.

Q: 10. Wil this lens work with all its functionality in Sony SLT-A77 II Camera?

A: The Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM Lens cannot be used on the Sony Alpha SLT-A77 II DSLR Camera. The Sony SLT-A77 II uses the Sony A-mount/Minolta MAXXUM lens mount, while the Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM Lens uses the Canon EF lens mount. We do not have any lens adapters that will connect a Canon EF lens to the Sony A-mount/Minolta MAXXUM lens mount.

[14mm] I love this little beast. Have taken some great shots and video with it on my 5D MkII. Remember to get really close to your subject when using such a wide angle lens. Also, this is not a fish eye, the rectilinear distortions are awesome. Sharpness is fantastic. Only cons I can think of is that at this price point, it would have been great if it were a little faster maybe f2.0.

[f/2.8] just returned from a photo workshop in Arizona. The lens was fantastic with ease of use and unbelievable results even though it was the first time using this lens

[Canon EF] I Love this Lens, I waited long enough and did my research really well before finally purchasing this lens and I am not sorry. What an amazing lens. The clarity is great. If you keep your object centralized you have have no distortion even though this is a really wide angle lens. However there is scope to play a lot and get some real fun stuff with this lens as well. I would not want any other wide angle lens after trying this one. It is pricey but definitely worth it!

[1.91 lb] This lens is sensational with a full-frame sensor. The depth of field and the perspective are remarkable. I've used for everything from night photography at Orlando theme parks (fireworks with a lot of surrounding contextual elements); to fast-moving toddlers at a party where I didn't want the flash to distract them; to breathtaking shots of the Atlantis shuttle launch taken from the Atlantic coast. A must-have for shots of the bride getting ready in close-in areas where you could never be quick enough with even a 24-70 2.8 lens. Fast focus, superb sharpness. It's tricky keeping the protruding lens clean, and it makes me nervous not to have a filter on such an expensive piece of glass, but this lens has quickly become indispensable.

[f/2.8] For architectural and interior shooters with full frame bodies this lens will be a staple right next to the EF 15 2.8. Much improved for digital bodies in the corners with less vignetting and chromatic abberation. Heavy and easy to damage though not usually a problem on a tripod. Really expensive upgrade for what you get IMO as the old EF 14 2.8L USM was O.K. on film but really not a particularly great lens on a digial body. For digital you almost have to have the mkII version unless you are willing to carefully correct the chromatic abberations in LR or CS4. Pricey but if you have to shoot wide there is nothing else to compete with it for a full frame Canon digital body.

[Full-Frame] Great for capturing what you want in one shot, the large f/2.8 aperture is so good for fast low light shooting. The non-existences of filters for this lens to protect your investment from scratches is annoying, but in saying that its my favourite lens in the bag now.
