Also benefitting image quality, both a Nano Crystal Coat and a Super Integrated Coating have been applied to control flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy. Standard zoom is designed for FX-format F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 36-105mm equivalent focal length range.

Bright constant f/2.8 maximum aperture affords consistent illumination throughout the zoom range and also affords greater control over depth of field for isolating subjects and working with selective focus techniques.

Three aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize sharp imagery with accurate rendering.

Three extra-low dispersion elements greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color accuracy.

Both a Nano Crystal Coat and a Super Integrated Coating have been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.

Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. An internal focusing design is also used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field techniques.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. According to what is written a lens was renewed by the company. The lens looks new? Does it have any flaws?

A: No, refurbished lenses are basically sold as new with a 90 day mfr warranty.

Q: 2. I am trying to choose between the 24-70mm 2.8 and the VR version. I have heard that the sharpness in the center on the VR is softer than the old version but the sharpness on the edge is better. Has anyone used both?

A: Hi Bonnie. I have never used the VR version so I can't directly answer your question. However, I am so very happy with my choice. I have never once thought... maybe I should have bought the VR lens! I shoot it on a D810 and my pictures are crisp and sharp and I have not seen any softness on the edges. Hope this helps! Joe

Q: 3. Can someone explain the difference between this lens and the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR Lens BH #NI247028VR • MFR #20052? I noticed after the 2.8 aperture spec on each one that the letter is different one is an e and the other a G. Completely lost on the difference between these two? Please help :)

A: Quite simply one lens has VR (vibration reduction) and the other does not. Also the VR lens has the E designation which refers to Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.

Q: 4. I am looking for lens/camera to take pictures of my nephews' high school basketball games in the gym. Lighting is horrible and I have never been able to take a clear, crisp shot during the games. Will this camera work for what I am wanting? Does anyone have anything better to suggest for gymnasium basketball action shots? Any help is appreciated.

A: Yes, this lens would be good for B-ball games and everyday photos, if you are situated under the hoop, if not, then the 70-200mm 2.8 would be ideal.

Q: 5. I have noticed that the newer version of this lens has VR. It seems that this lens is a bit heavy. Does anyone feel that the VR is needed? It would be out of my price range to buy the VR, but I do not want to waste my money on the non-vr and regret it either.

A: I just got it , up grading from an 18-105 kit lens, it is a huge improvement. I spent Saturday doing a Christmas photo shoot, over 700 images. It was a dark cloudy day. I am super happy with it , sharp images and we shot until nearly dark with even some of those being keepers. I did not find it heavy at all but I normally shoot a200-500 hand held. I am keeping the lens.

Q: 6. What has been done to a lens that has been refurbished?

A: It was a used lens and it has been restored to its original condition.

Q: 7. Does this lens extend to zoom? Does it focus internally?

A: This lens does not have an internal zoom. This lens will actually start fully extended when at 24mm. It then fully collapses at around the 50mm mark and then extends out again when zooming to 70mm. When fully extended the lens protrudes about 3/4 of an inch from the barrel.

Q: 8. Is this a parfocal lens?

A: Yes, this lens is parfocal.

Q: 9. Will this work on D850 ?

A: Yep.

Q: 10. Compatible with full frame

A: I shoot it on a Nikon DF as a primary lens. It is razor sharp even at 800-1600 ISO.

[77 mm (Front)] Bought this lens with my D750 as it was $300 cheaper purchased together. Still a very expensive lens, but well worth it! The image quality is far superior to anything I have used before. Highly recommend if you want the very best quality images.

[24 to 70mm] I'm shooting with this lens for almost 4 years and it never let me down. It's sharp ... sharper than some primes lenses I have. It's worth every single penny ...

[f/2.8] I know that more advanced amateurs and professionals use this sight and thus might be more inclined to know the following information. That said, for those who have had to struggle with the same internal debate I had - Do I get the f/2.8G or the new f/2.8E? - I offer the following questions I asked myself to resolve this decision. * Would you sacrifice some sharpness in the middle of the image for increased sharpness at the edges? The G is generally sharper in the middle while softer towards the edges of the frame, while the E sacrifices some center sharpness for better sharpness towards those edges. * Do you shoot a lot in situations where you would benefit from VR? The E has VR, the G does not. * Does size/weight matter to you? The G is lighter than the E. * Do you deal with a lot of flare in your photos? The E supposedly handles flare somewhat better than the G. * Do you have a lot of filters 77mm filters you'd have to replace/supplement? The E requires larger filters. * Overall, are all the changes made in the f/2.8E worth several hundred dollars to you? The E, being a newer lens, is significantly more expensive. Considering the foregoing, I opted for the G. I'm not at all disappointed by the performance of the lens and would still recommend it to be included in any Nikon shooter's Holy Trinity of zoom lenses.

[77 mm (Front)] I'd heard that this is a fabulous lens for natural light portraits, but didn't want to spend the money when I could get by with other lenses. I finally caved and bought this a few weeks ago and now am kicking myself for not believing EVERYONE who raved about this lens. It really is amazing and worth every penny.
