A super telephoto distinguished by its fast design, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens Kit Bis further characterized by its advanced optical layout, fast focusing, and image stabilization. Well-suited for sports and wildlife photography, the bright f/2.8 maximum aperture suits working in a variety of lighting conditions and also promotes working with shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques. The optical design includes three extra-low dispersion elements, which help to minimize chromatic aberrations and color fringing in order to gain higher clarity and color accuracy. Both Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings have also been applied to reduce flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color rendering. Complementing the optics, this lens also sports a Silent Wave Motor for fast and accurate autofocus along with VR II image stabilization to minimize the appearance of camera shake by three stops.

Super telephoto prime is designed for FX-format F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it will provide a 450mm equivalent focal length.

Impressively bright f/2.8 maximum aperture excels in difficult lighting conditions and also enables extensive control over depth of field for isolating subjects using selective focus techniques.

Three extra-low dispersion elements greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color accuracy.

Both a Nano Crystal Coat and a Super Integrated Coating have been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.

Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. An internal focusing design is also used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.

VR II (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by three stops to benefit shooting handheld in difficult lighting conditions.

Removable, rotating tripod collar benefits working with the lens atop a tripod or monopod.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Compatible with optional AF-S Teleconverter TC-14, TC-17, and TC-20 teleconverters.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the 200 F/2.0 VRll Sharper than this lens

A: Both the Nikon 300mm f/2.8 and 200mm f/2.0 are incredibly sharp lenses.

Q: 2. I am looking ahead to purchasing a prime telephoto lens to supplement my 70-200 lens, which is very good but does not reach the pristine quality at the outer ranges at a prime lens are supposed to offer. The 300 2.8 is a logical choice but, frankly, recent reviews have been especially critical, citing the inability to front focus and are troubling. One reviewer even acknowledged that Nikon has been unable to fix the problem, despite repeated attempts. Meanwhile, reviews of the 200 2.0 are universally stellar, with not one complaint to be found. Aside from the primary differences -- 200 vs. 300 and 2.0 to 2.8 -- would a better choice be the 200 supplemented with a 1.4 or 2.0 converter to achieve greater distances. Is there a downside, minor or otherwise, to using extenders. (Would a 1.4 give me 300 meters, and a 2.0 reach 400?) Both lenses are about the same size and weight and fall in the same price range, but performance is paramount with such a pricey piece of glass.

A: If you already have the 70-200mm VRII 2.8, then why are you even considering the 200mm F/2.0, unless you are a very specialized portrait photographer then I would understand that it is not truly the reach nor the speed of the lens that you are after but the creamy background and all that poetic internet talk of ones who basically have not published a single photo taken by their very expensive lenses. The 300mm 2.8 VRII is an outstanding piece of optics, the shape of the barrel is more natural than walking around with the weird looking 200mm lens, which will attract more attention than wanted, it is truly made for action photography as well as portraits especially outdoors, needless to say that if you love landscape and can hire someone to carry it for on your next hike, you will adore the shots you take once you 're back home. Bottom line, the reach of a 300 is far better than the 200, as well as adding an extender is good for still shots that is why I got the 2.0 one for the very rare occasion of using it, but the lens is made to be used solo. Lenses I own: 14-24mm, 24mm 1.4, 58mm1.4, 105mm VR, 70-200mmVRII, 300mmVRII2.8, two nikon bodies D3s & D4, /// Sony A7RII with 55mm 1.8 lens for traveling, so you got the picture that I was in the same dilemma as you then I started to take photos and blocked my self from reading too much for all those experts out there. I hope this was of any help to you.

Q: 3. how long is the warranty on this lens?

A: The unit comes with the following. Limited 1-Year Warranty you can also extended it by taking advantage of our all-state protection plan.

Q: 4. Will this lens work with the Nikon TC-14EII teleconverter on a D7100?

A: The Nikon AF-S 300mm f/2.8 VR II is compatible with the TC-14E II without limitations, and they could be used together on the D7100.

Q: 5. Does this lens have internal focusing, IF?

A: Yes.

Q: 6. Does this item come with a lens good?

A: Yes, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens comes with the Nikon HK-30 Lens Hood (Slip-On) for 200-400mm f/4 & 300mm f/2.8 VR Lenses.

Q: 7. Will this lens work with two TCs stacked, on a D7200? Thanks.

A: It is not possible to stack 2 Nikon teleconverters. A better option would be to use this Tamron 150-600: https://bhpho.to/3fRqqTe Plus this 2x: https://bhpho.to/2Rgnllj The result would be manual focus only but it would reach the 1200mm range.

Q: 8. Will this lens fit in the Nikon CL-L1 case?

A: Yes this lens fits in the CL-L1.

Q: 9. How come Nikon 300 f.28 does not come in Nikon C1-404 Box ?

A: This is a question to ask Nikon.

Q: 10. I own the 300 f/4 PF but sometimes wish I had the extra stop from a 2.8 lens. Is this lens worth the price for the extra stop? I understand it’s built to pro standards but aside from that is it worth it to sell the PF and get this 12-year old lens?

A: Getting the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR Lens would be worth the cost based on its smaller barrel and electromagnetic diaphragm for faster response when shooting continuous frames, despite the maximum aperture of f/4. The right choice really comes down to what features are most important to you.

[Nikon F] Clear crisp photos. Its heavy and pricy but worth it. Great in low light.

[Full-Frame] This is a true high-class lens, and its versatility is amazing. It is so sharp, with such great bokeh, that you can crop butterfly images and they look better than if taken by a macro lens. You can also safely slap a 2x TC III on it, double your reach, and yet still get *outstanding*image quality. I can't praise this lens highly enough.

[8° 10'] I am not an expert in photography. I got fascinated by the photos I saw on photography forums taken with this lens and I decided to buy it to use it with my NikonD7000. I got it on a Monday, I opened it at night and had a look at it. Next day I was taking my first photos with it. The lens basically does the job for you when it comes to focusing. It gives you the most sharp pics. I really love it. I just got a Nikon teleconvertor III to use with it to get some more reach. I absolutely recommend this lens to any one interested in super telephot.
