A: The lens works very nicely with the D500. I use this lens on my D750 and my D500 both take very sharp pictures using this lens. With the D500 do be aware you zoom range is more like 40-450mm because of the crop factor. But both camera's function very nicely with the lens.

I have used it for landscapes, portraits, sports and wildlife ( think about getting one of the Nikon teleconverters for extending the focal length) For travel photography it may be the only lens you will need. If I was forced to give up my all my lenses but one, the 28-300 would the one I keep.
