Octagonal-shaped light sources have long had a reputation as the preferred portrait-shooter's light source. The shape offers an especially large surface area which produces wrap-around light, which envelopes the subject while creating natural-looking catchlights in the eyes.

The kit is comprised of a separate 6-lamp Octacool light head and removable Octabox. Each of the daylight-balanced 32W lamps outputs 1400 lumens of light for a total of 8400 lumens measured at 3.3 feet. Three switches on the rear of the fixture control 2 lamps each allowing you to vary the output in 2800 lumen increments. The head's standard 5/8" receiver mounts to a huge variety of light stands and gripware with 5/8" studs.

A: From a customer stand point, I have enjoyed using the Octa Fluorescent 7- socket 2 light softbox kit due to the features of using the full spectrum of lighting or cutting back half depending on my level of light needed for photography sessions. There was no change in lighting temperature during usage and it gives a nice overall lighting even if used for videography.

A: Yes, 2 lights should be enough light for even more people in a studio w background setting. 6 lights each provides plenty of light. You can use the full 6 lights for main and turn off 2 for fill light. You might still want to consider a smaller light source for head light as well as one for the background.

A: I would say no.Reason is it struggles to put out enough light.Up close it does good,well diffused light but I bought bigger bulbs because I wanted more light from it

A: Yes you can use LED bulbs, but I'm not sure what the max wattage the fixture can take if you use 6x 100w.Most household LED bulbs commonly CRI 50-70ish, so try find some with CRI 90+ for better coloring.

Q: 8. Can I swamp the soft box on these lights with others soft boxes using a speed ring or umbrellas?

A: Unlikely unless the other softboxes are Raya products - this doesn't have a Bowens mount. You could likely rig an umbrella

A: Unfortunately, there is no grid available to fit the Raya Octa Soft Box for Octa Fluorescent 7 which is included in this kit.
