The 58mm Heliopan 58mm Short Metal Lens Hood for Camerasfrom Heliopan 58mm Short Metal Lens Hood for Camerasis screwed to the front of the wide-angle lens to block stray light and prevents flare on the front element of the lens. The aluminum hood also protects the lens against sudden or accidental impact. That means the rear outside diameter is 95mm and the front inside diameter is 95mm as well. Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not list the front outside diameter and we are not able to measure it. If we were to guess, it is approximately 98mm.

A: This hood appears to be designed for the narrower angle of view of a 50mm lens. May I recommend the Nikon HN-3 hood (B&H #NIHN-3)? It is designed for the 35mm focal lengths, and is metal with 52mm threads. I have used this on a number of lenses from several manufacturers, with no vignetting issues. Sturdy and well-made! [58 mm] Love it...replaces annoying plastic tulip lens hood and plastic lens cap. I use Heliopan lens hoods with a small step up ring...more for cosmetic reasons and then add a Lens Coat hoodie cover on top for even more protection.....need to measure carefully to get correct LensCoat Hood cover....but they are not that expensive. 5

[Aluminum] Perfect compact shade for a 40/2 Voigtlander lens and it takes 52mm Nikon pinch caps. Still it's spun Aluminum, not rocket science but there are no less expensive shades this size ~ these are just right for 40mm FX lenses. 5

[0.13 lb] I picked this up as a replacement for the monster of a hood that Fuji supplies with the excellent 23mm f1.4 lens. Many 23mm owners look for a smaller replacment. This fits the bill perfectly! It has the same diameter as the lens. No vignetting at all even with a UV filter attached. Matte finnish so you will not get any glare off of it. Pricey, but you get Heliopan quality and its as if it was made just for the 23mm! 5

[Aluminum] The Heliopan lens hood is very short and is the same width as the 62mm filter. It does not bulge out at all, and is shorter than the shortest piece of the Fuji 23mm petal hood. I bought this so I could have something less noticeable than the larger petal hood that comes with the Fuji 23mm. I tried this lens hood without a filter, and it works with no vignetting on the X-T1. I, however, always like to keep a filter on, so I will note a couple of things. I was using a B+W 62mm MRC Nano 007 filter on my camera, which I love; however, this Heliopan lens hood does not have enough thread on the B+W MRC Nano filter to screw all the way in. It gets somewhat tight, but comes loose to easy. I ordered a B+W 62mm MRC F-Pro filter instead, and it has a deeper profile, and this lens hood screws in all the way tightly into that filter. I have done a lot of testing, and I have not noticed any vignetting on the 23mm with the B+W MRC filter with this lens hood. It makes the lens sleeker and lower profile than the petal hood. The default Fuji lens cap also clamps nicely at the end of this Heliopan lens hood. Overall, I am happy with the combo, as long as you get a filter that is deep enough to screw this into, or if you don't use filters! 5
