Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I attach this on the Hasselblad XCD 45/p lens without needing any other parts and will the lens cap fit with the hood on?

A: The Heliopan 62mm Short Metal Lens Hood fits directly on the Hasselblad XCD 45mm f/4 P Lens, and you can still use the lens cap included with the lens.

Q: 2. will this work with a 40mm voightlander f1.2 lens?

A: Yes, if the lens you have has 52mm filter threads.

Q: 3. What's the depth of this hood?

A: The depth of the Heliopan 95mm Short Metal Lens Hood is 1.80".

Q: 4. I bought this for my Fuji 23mm and so far, I can't tell of any vignetting at any aperture. However, I wanted to mount it on my B+W MRC-Nano filter 007, and it does, but the screw in does have enough space to tighten on. It always stays loose. What filter are you using? Do I need a deeper filter and not a skinnier one?

A: Some slim filters made for wide angle lenses do not have threads on the side that faces away from the camera. A thicker filter might vignette. I have used Heliopan slim filters to avoid this, they have threads. B&H should be able to hook you up. I never skimp on filters, I spent too much on my lenses to put second rate filters on them.

Q: 5. Will 52 short hood give the vignetting on 24 mm lens (APC-S)?

A: It is possible to get a vignette on a 24mm lens. It would be best to give it a try as many factors come into play that could affect this combination.

Q: 6. Will this fit the Hasselblad XCD 45mm 4P?

A: Yes, this will fit onto your Hasselblad XCD 45mm f/4 P.

Q: 7. Will it work with 10mm lens (fuji 10-24 lens) without vignetting?

A: You will probably get vignetting on 10mm, the hood that comes with the lens is tulip shaped. Your better off with a tulip hood like the one listed below; https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/843337-REG/sensei_lhsc_72_72mm_screw_on_tulip_lens.html

Q: 8. Will this hood work without vignetting on a Fuji 23mm XF lens (35mm equivalent)?

A: I purchased the short heliopan for the same reason - to avoid using the giant hood on an already giant lens! Unfortunately, if my memory serves me correctly, it DOES vignette. Despite being short, it lacks sufficient flare/taper for the 23mm field of view. The upside of having an identical diameter hood is that lens caps & accessories usually fit as they would the lens filter thread, but unfortunately it's no good here.My recommendation is a short flared 62mm screw-in hood. There are several of these on eBay. Usually very cheap & from China but would work far better & alot less conspicuous! If you wish to use a filter the screw-in hoods usually fit the front thread of the filter ring.I've since switched to Leica & some vintage LTM gear - the small size of these are amazing, especially given full frame. That's the advantage of leaving out all the AF electronics.Best wishes,Jason MillerBrisbane

Q: 9. Will the 52mm short hood vignette on a 35mm lens/FF camera?

A: This hood appears to be designed for the narrower angle of view of a 50mm lens. May I recommend the Nikon HN-3 hood (B&H #NIHN-3)? It is designed for the 35mm focal lengths, and is metal with 52mm threads. I have used this on a number of lenses from several manufacturers, with no vignetting issues. Sturdy and well-made! Hope this helps.

Q: 10. Can these be stacked to form a longer lens hood?

A: No, they cannot be stacked.

[105 mm] This fine hood helped me to solve two problems. The first is how to put a hood on a lens and use a circular polarizer at the same time. The second is how to have a hood on a lens with a wide zoom range; in this case, 18-200mm. I first put on a wide angle hood of the accessory size of the lens; in this case 72mm. That serves as the needed wide angle hood. I choose that hood so that it has a much wider thread size on its front; in this case 95mm. The Heliopan short metal hood then attaches to the front of the first hood, making a very satisfactory telephoto hood. The Heliopan is of very good quality, and serves its purpose quite well.

[0.2 lb] This metal lens hood is ideal for a rangefinder camera because it doesn't flare like rubber ones. This minimizes intrusion into the field of view while getting the job done, stopping flare.

[0.2 lb] I use this on a Konica Auto s3 with a 49-52mm adapter, it doesn't vignette, it doesn't block the rangefinder, and the camera still fits in my pocket. It is well made and nice looking.

[Aluminum] That's the Giii QL17 40mm lens with 48mm filter thread. I love the way the camera handles but I found the lens flare pretty severe, and that is actually my fault. The odd thread size did not match any accessory I had. An inexpensive rubber hood helped, but blocked at least a quarter of the rangefinder view. Plus it 'looked funny'. From both ends. So I can't recommend that.

This Heliopan seemed costly at first sight, but it really is not, as it functions perfectly and is a genuine improvement worth the price. It is exactly the right length, adding a mere 0.5 inches to the barrel length. Just enough to give the lens some side shades. And it does not unbalance the camera, either aesthetically or gravitationally. It 'looks proper', feels proper.

It is just barely visible in the finder, if I look closely, so it is quite unobtrusive. The hood is male threaded on one end and female threaded on the free end. I can stack it on the 48mm B&H skylight filter, and then also stack a 48mm B&H yellow filter or polarizer on the very end if I want. So it is not a termination, but a stackable element like any other filter. (I could even stack two of them, if I thought it would work twice as well.)

The Canon 50mm original lens cover fits snugly on the free end, and I found the B&H 50mm cap is also a perfect fit. Just as they are on the original lens body. It is a perfect match.

This short lens hood is exactly what the Canon f/1.7 needed, and it will always stay on my ol' camera.

[0.2 lb] I bought this to use with my Canonet QL17 and it works just as expected. Slight obstruction to lower right corner of viewfinder but not enough to make a difference when composing a shot. Item is matt black, has a quality feel to it and screws on easily to the front of the lens. It has grooves on the front for a filter or lens cap. Would highly recommend this product. I was especially happy I didn't have to buy a step up adapter.

[Aluminum] I picked this up as a replacement for the monster of a hood that Fuji supplies with the excellent 23mm f1.4 lens. Many 23mm owners look for a smaller replacment. This fits the bill perfectly! It has the same diameter as the lens. No vignetting at all even with a UV filter attached. Matte finnish so you will not get any glare off of it. Pricey, but you get Heliopan quality and its as if it was made just for the 23mm!
