A: bought this 13 months ago and 6 or 7 drives really have a hard time opening. suggest that you keep a paperclip handy. Wish I had thought to send it back with in the first year while under warrenty. Most likely this is a fluke.

A: Yes it will. But your computer will lock on the last region change after changing the region several times.

A: It uses speaker wire. The volume control interrupts the regular wiring.

Q: 4. Looks like no M-Disc support?

A: Yes, that's correct. This does not support M-Disc.

Q: 5. 2nd request- can you burn a cd from a multitrack digital recorder?

A: CD writers like this one from Verbatim are designed to be used only with computers, not directly with digital recorders. You would need to transfer your recordings to your computer first, then use appropriate audio software to burn our CD.

A: No, in order to use this device, it has to be connected directly to a computer.

Q: 8. Has the manufacturer specified an expected archival life or material on the coating?

A: The manufacturer uses it's proprietary HardCoat coating for its BD-Rs. They advertise a long life, but do not make any quantitative claims to longevity the way M-DISC does. Additionally, there is not necessarily any definitive difference in longevity between HardCoat and similar coatings and M-DISC save for price.
