A: If you are shooting a crop sensor camera, not so much. It is a really sharp lens but not that wide. 24mm on full frame turns in a reasonable wide angle shot. On a crop sensor, 18mm is wide enough to make it look big. That is really equiv to 28.8mm on full frame (Canon anyway). A 14mm would really get into wide territory on a crop sensor. Canon's are 1.6 x the focal length. really good for long, bad for short. You really need to go much smaller than 35mm for a real panoramic effect...

The 50 1.4 is not a highly considered lens but I think I've got a good one & it's just not the same using a 35mm. I also bought & sent back the 35 1.4 II, for me there wasn't that much difference with the 2.0, not for what I do, usually at F7 or f8.
