Inspired by the original version of this lens from 1951, the silver Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.5 Aspherical Lens Silverfrom Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.5 Aspherical Lens Silveris a fast normal-length prime for M-mount rangefinder cameras. While utilizing the same basic lens design as the classic version, this updated lens incorporates one aspherical element into its design to help control spherical aberrations and distortion for improved sharpness and clarity. The lens is also characterized by its fast f/1.5 maximum aperture to suit working in low lighting and to offer greater control over depth of field. Its manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 2.3' away, and the 10-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Fast f/1.5 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also enables greater control over focus position for selective focus applications.

One aspherical element is incorporated at the rear of the six elements in five groups construction, and helps to limit spherical aberrations and distortions.

Manual focus design enables a minimum focusing distance of 2.3'.

Ten-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality when working with shallow depth of field techniques.

As part of Voigtlander's Vintage Line of lenses, this lens features a silver-colored brass to give it a classic appeal that is well-matched to classic rangefinder camera designs.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does it produce color shift on digital M?

A: There is no apparent color shift when used on the digital M.

Q: 2. Would this lens - with ten straight blades have rounder highlights than Fuji's 50 f2 with nine rounded blades?

A: While this lens will give you great results, we are not aware of any specific comparison tests done between this and a Fuji 50mm F/2.0.

Q: 3. Will this fit an M4P?

A: Yes, this is an M-mount lens so it will fit a Leica M4P.

Q: 4. Does this lens come with a lens hood? If not which hood fits? I searched for Nokton 50mm f1.5 lens hood, but came up with nothing...

A: The lens does come with a lens hood. It would be in the box.

Q: 5. How does this compare to the Voigtlander 50mm f1.2?

A: The f1.2 version is higher quality because it has 2 aspherical elements (the f1.5 only has 1) plus the f1.2 has one partial dispersion element while the f1.5 has none.

Q: 6. Not sure of the FF - to - APSC calculations, but wouldn't this be roughly equivalent to Fuji's 50 f2?

A: As far as perspective is concerned on the same size sensor, a 50mm is a 50mm is a 50mm. In other words, if mounted on the same camera, they will have identical perspectives.

Q: 7. Do 50mm frame lines show in viewfinder of M3 and M6 with this lens?

A: Yes, the Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.5 Aspherical Lens will bring up the correct 50mm frame lines in the viewfinder for Leica M series cameras.

Q: 8. Can a lens like this be adapted to be used on a canon eos 5d M3?

A: Unfortunately, no. Due to the differences in focal flange distance, there are no lens adapters designed to connect a Leica M-mount lens to the Canon EF lens mount which is used on the Canon EOS 5D Mark III DSLR camera. The focal flange distance of the Leica M-mount is 27.8 mm, which is smaller than the 44 mm focal flange distance of the Canon EF lens mount. A Leica M-mount lens would not fit and would not have the ability to focus to infinity on the Canon EF lens mount.

Q: 9. How well does this work on Fuji x cameras?

A: The lens has a Leica M mount and will not work on the Fuji, unless you get a lens adapter from Leica to Fuji and then of course it will be fully manual. Having said that, it should perform nicely. Click the link below to view; https://bhpho.to/2YJJ7Rn

Q: 10. Interested in ordering this Lense to mount on Canon EF mount?

A: I'm sorry there are no adapters that exist to mount Leica M to Canon EF body.

[10] Great lens and a reasonable price. Beats buying a 50 mm from Leica!

[49 mm (Front)] I am not sure if I am a 35mm or 50mm focal length Leica m240 photographer so instead of buying very expensive Leica lenses immediately I have bought this excellent non-Leica 50mm lens and a used 35mm Leica Summarit so that I can experience both focal lengths in a variety of surroundings. The Nokton wide-open is f/1.5 which offers shallow DOF for near subjects, with nice Bokeh, or good light gathering power in available darkness. I programmed the m240 to think this is a 50/1.4 Leica lens, an approach which brings up the correct frame line and applies minor image corrections.

[f/1.5] My wife gave me my first Leica (M-E) for my 40th birthday! After going back and forth on what lens to get I chose the Voigtlander. Having never shot with a Leica before, this lens made it easy for me to adapt to the rangefinder learning curve. I have never shot with a Leica or the Zeiss comparable lenses, but this lens has been a dream to shoot with. The fact that it is a f/1.5 lens it gives more flexibility compared to the 2.0 Zeiss and 2.4 Leica, which are both more expensive. The Leica M-E is not a great high ISO camera so having faster glass is a benefit. The lens is heavy, but for that you get a lens that will out last you! I have added a couple pics from my first weekend of shooting with the Leica and Nokton.

[Leica M] I own way too many cameras and lenses, which were accumulated over many years. (Nikons, Minoltas, Sonys, Canons, Mamiyas, and my current love, Leicas.) This little jewel however, is probably the sharpest, most well made piece of glass I own. I won't be getting rid of it anytime soon, if ever! I would have had the focus ring a bit further from the camera mount, but that's just a personal preference and no big deal.

[0.945 lb] I use this lens on both a film rangefinder camera as well as an A7 R2 as well is a GX 85 using a passive Metabones adapter. The performance is awesome. Edge to edge flat and clean without any sense of vignetting or distortion. In particular the bokeh is absolutely fabulous. At F1 .5 up to F5 .6 it is really easy to completely blur the background in a very narrow to a larger range depending on your distance from the subject. The build quality is as good as any Zeiss I own. The action from both the aperture as well as the focus ring are as smooth as silk.

[f/16] I just got a Leica M10 and I won't be able to afford a Leica made lens for a while. I shopped around and decided to try the 7Artisans 50mm 1.1. Big Mistake.
The Lens was fine and the softness had its charm but it wasn't for me. I returned it and bought this Little Beauty.
This was exactly what I was looking for. This Lens feels and works like a Leica lens. Super sharp, even wide open, with that micro-contrast we all love.
One day I hope to own a Leica lens but until then, this lens won't leave my M10.
The pictures I am posting were taken within an hour of acquiring the Lens.
