Lower operating costs without expanding floor space by reducing W/GB. To meet these demands, Ultrastar 7K4000 delivers 33% more capacity in the same footprint at 24% lower W/GB than its predecessor, Ultrastar 7K3000. Take advantage of 2.4PB in the footprint of a standard 19-inch enterprise storage rack by stacking ten 4U, 60-bay enclosures. Ultrastar 7K4000 dual port SAS is available in traditional 512, 520 and 528 byte sector size. Ultrastar 7K4000 SATA is an Advanced Format drive, using 4096-byte sector size to provide enhanced capacity. Advanced format drives are backwards compatible with legacy 512-byte sector size by offering built-in 512-byte emulation through the SATA interface.

Operating at 7200RPM, Ultrastar 7K4000 offers better overall performance than slower RPM capacity-oriented drives, and does so with lower power-consumption rates. The Ultrastar 7K4000 can help data centers achieve lower AC power and HVAC requirements. With five Advanced Power Management modes, the 7K4000 achieves a 59% reduction in watts during lower RPM idle mode, and uses less than 2W during standby/sleep modes, freeing up headroom.

The Ultrastar 7k4000, with its halogen-free design and power-efficient operation, qualifies for the HGST EcoTrac classification.

This 2TB HDD is a high capacity enterprise class drive available in a single platform.

With a 7200RPM rotational speed you benefit from increased performance for business critical applications along with the ability to maintain drive performance in high rotational vibration environments and multi-drive systems.

Thermal Fly-height Control (TFC) with internal thermal sensors provides improved soft error rate detection for improved reliability and performance. The head load/unload feature protects disks during non-operation.

Optional Bulk Data Encryption (SATA) and TCG Enterprise_A (SAS) encrypts drive data, providing security and easy redeployment.

[1.8 lb] Drive was shipped promptly and arrived undamaged. Mounting the drive in an external case and formatting it for use as a Time Machine Drive for an iMac was a cinch. Drive is just a little bit noisier that I anticipated, but it works well and I'm hoping to get many years of service from it.

[1.8 lb] Just got this drive a few weeks ago for long-term backup/storage. I can't attest to it's reliability, but it is suppose to be one of the best. It is, however, very fast (for a mechanical hard drive), it's quiet and I'm very pleased!

[70 G / 2.0 ms] Hitachi also sells a popular and cheaper drive, but for archival video (my use) this is the one you want. Designed for enterprise class servers and with an actual MTBF rating, it's worth every penny. I think I now own about a dozen of this class of Hitachi drives, from 1TB up to now 4TB.

[1.8 lb] I am a freelance DIT, and HGST is the only SATA HDD drive that I would buy. Based on my experience, I believe it is the best enterprise drive on the market. When Western Digital aquired HGST, I was concerned that the HGST and G-Technology brand might suffer. But based on the new products from each, and continued reliability, I think the partnership has been beneficial for WD and HGST (and G-Technology).

[1.8 lb] I love disk drives that let me worry less. A couple of years ago I started buying UltraStar enterprise-grade drives, after laying to rest a few consumer-grade drives that died too young. I was attracted to these UltraStar drives by their five-year warranty and excellent MTBF ratings. Once I made the switch, I never looked back. In the past six years I've purchased 19 UltraStar drives, and one has been in service as my system drive almost 24/7 for those six years. I've never had one go bad.

[70 G / 2.0 ms] I use two of these connected to the integrated SAS 6/iR controller on Dell T7400. I have no complaints about the reliability or speed so far. I really liked the retail packaging that these drives came in from B&H. The drives are really well protected during shipping in this packaging.
